If your time is worth nothing or you're a bit of a masochist then you'll really appreciate the SUFFERING INVOLED in using trillian pro. The bullheaded wankers that designed this software assumed that you'd not be using any other software whatsoever on your system. I had the least PROBLEMS with trillian pro when I wiped out windows, reformatted and reinstalled only windows and trillian pro. As you can image a system with only one application isn't capable of much. But then TRILLIAN ITSELF ISNT CAPABLE OF MUCH. While it lends itself well to EMPTY HYPE AND MARKETING ZEAL once the dust settles you'll be scratching your head wondering "HEY, WHERE IS THAT ONE FEATURE FROM YAHOO" or "WHAT ABOUT THAT ONE COOL THING THAT MSN 5 DOES?" . You'll be scratching your head until it bleeds cuz YOU AIN'T GONNA GET NOTHING FROM CERULEAN STUDIOS FOR YOUR $25. You remember when shareware authors went overkill and mostly released EVIL CRIPPLEWARE? Well this company doesn't even release any shareware at all. NO QUALITY previews of what you'll be getting. Be getting.. a great description. the DARK DEAD EYES of the cult following that is trillian will SCOLD YOU for wondering when this or that will cease NOT ACTUALLY WORKING PROPERLY OR AT ALL. THE EVIL CULT OF TRILLIANISTS worship at the altar of immature after first gouging their eyes out with a spoon. Trillian Pro certainly isn't a messiah. The world already had one of those. TRILLIAN COULD BE IN LEAGUE WITH SATAN. Not just that the product seems to have secret CRASH YOUR SYSTEM POWERS, but the THE EVIL CULT OF TRILLIANISTS themselves speak volumes. It's a HATEFUL community of extremist, TRILLIANIST WACKOS that chant the mantra of "trillians perfection". BLIND TO THE REALITIES THAT THIS HORRIFICALLY, POORLY CODED BLOATWARE APPLICATION is more a promise than a package. Never regretted this purchase yet! The sheer savings in resources alone when running this prog instead of at least three other IMs and mIRC is worth the asking price. (While on the subject of resources, I really must take issue with the user reviewer of Mar-30 with his '512 Megs' punch-line. I have only 160MB and an ageing K6-2 450Mhz which was grinding to a halt under the weight of 'net software alone. I now have XP and Trillian Pro up and running and have renewed speed! I kid you not... Admittedly, there are a couple of features 'missing' that the dedicated IMs may have, such as Working Cams but I can live without them. I take heart from the occasional news alerts I receive from zdnet and the BBC in tiny little boxes that, if ignored, just fade away again, cool! Also cool are the skins. No better or worse than skins on other IMs, but they make this 'one-stop-IM-shop' even more attractive in its scant use of screen real estate. If I had to pick on something, (and, to be honest, it's never really bothered me,) it's that the competition is far easier to set up, use and get to grips with. Then again, this beast has to provide the functionality of four other programs so maybe that's nit-picking. So far (six months of use) I have had no crashes or glitches, just the ever so rare lack of connectivity when the competition play their games. But that never lasts. Come to think of it, prior to buying this, there were periods of down-time on the other networks too..... Buy this and support two guys that are trying to make a difference. (You know, the type that really made the 'net possible...)

Trillian Pro is as fickle as the free version. This product is STILL subject to the whim of those companies whose network this package hijacks access. It's unstable on anything less than a BLEEDING edge system. Skins look pretty, but they're pretty poorly coded. Memory bloatware: no thanks. At any moment you could kiss goodbye your $25 with ZERO REFUND possibilities when AOL locks trillial out YET AGAIN. "How can you all bash this for 25 dollars?" another reviewer asks. about as easily as your community can bash American troops in Iraq or any other petty issues you have with people in your "support" forums. "Support" WHOA THERE'S A MISNOMER. If by support you mean abuse, then yes, it's a great product. Trillian ABUSES system resources. The free versoin is a joke. If you don't have at least 512 megs of ram just forget this "known issue". "known issues" ... yup, there's alot of them. If you point out an issue and the illuminati already "know" it.. wow, let the newbie bashing begin anew! What don't you get with trillian pro? about every cool feature provided by the native IM clients trillian poorly attempts to replace. B: for effort C: for implementation F: for support STAY AWAY from this reverse engineered "piracy" of others' IM networks.

How can you all bash this for 25 dollars? You all steal it off Kazaa anyways, think about it, you steal everything on the internet. As for Trillian, there are a few advanced features from the clients missing. But they are working on it. It's 2 guys, give em a break. The meta-contacts are a MUST have for people with huge lists. Nowdays everyone runs all the clients and this lets you merge them together. It runs on the same amount of RAM as AIM or MSN alone ... let alone what adding in the other one plus ICQ and YAHOO and MIRC does... It has some connectivity problems with MSN and some visibility issues with YAHOO, but other than that it works SOOOO well. It has so many features beyond what even the modded versions of AIM can do. I realize Trillian is morally wrong for stealing all this stuff from these companies, but these companies have thousands of workers and millions of dollars, and there is NO reason they cant make their programs this nice. The reason this one is better? Because the guys care, and I believe in them

Review:
The program definitely has its pros and cons. It doesn't support Unicode, so users of other character sets are out of luck for now. The windows sometimes blink when they shouldn't, but that's just a minor problem. It also doesn't support some features that are found in the official clients, and the plugins (most of which are third-party or beta) don't always work exactly the way I'd like. However, in this case the good outweighs the bad. It is good in that it takes up far less memory (and desktop) space than running 5 IM services at once... I like being able to consolidate all my messages into one window. I also like being able to have more than one screen name on the same service at the same time. Overall, good program with potential, although it does have its problems, I'm interested to see how it improves in the future.

Trillian free client is an acceptable client alternative to running four messaging clients -- that is if you don't mind loss of functionality. One would expect the feature gap to be closed with the pro version. A great disappointment, therefore is the pro (paid) version. It essentially offers a (poorly developed) plugin architecture 3rd party extensibility. Pro is a pipe dream. You will be paying for the privilege of helping cerulean develop a better version. This is akin to paying Microsoft to test their buggy beta software. Until Cerulean "gets their act together" $25 spent is $25 wasted. The PSI jabber client is an excellent free alternative as it supports everything cerulean does (yes, skins) and jabber.

The only reason Trillian Pro gets a "thumbs up" from me is because of the way it's promoted, not because of the program itself. They sell it by saying you're getting special features, that, once you've paid and downloaded the product, don't work. The best examples of this are the webcam feature and the file transfers that don't work for a whole lot of people (just read the Trillian community forums) If I had known about this before I bought the software, I never would've gotten it. I still need to have Yahoo IM installed when I want to use my webcam or view someone elses webcam. And half of the time I have to upload the file to my site for my chat partner to download it, or I have to email it because the file transfers won't work. There's nothing about the Pro version that's special enough to justify the $25, especially not the "free updates" when you get free updates for the free version too which is free to begin with. Not to mention the severe lack of support, which has been noted by many others in other "reviews" here. It's a nice program that cleans up your desktop and won't require starting more than one program if you want to chat with friends, but other than that it's nothing special. Save your money and stick with the free version, or try one of Trillian's competitors that still are free.

Program has video on Yahoo, but no audio. Default skin is not very good. Meta contacts are a plus. As for plugins, nothing worth downloading yet. Sure, they claim that they will have something in the future, but most of the development is being done for FREE by the users of the software. NOT by Cerulean Studios. So there is a good chance that sometime in the future you may have to pay just for the ability to download the new plugin on TOP of the $25 that you already paid for the software. They claim better tech support, but there are people on their forum stating that they have been waiting for quite some time and still no answer from tech support. Any time you ask a question on their forum, you either get flaimed and told to go away with the mods locking the thread, or you get answers that may or may not be correct as the developers of the software DO NOT frequent the board. I would say keep your money and either use the free version that has a nag screen that some say comes up several times a day asking for money, or stick with the original FREE clients and see what happens over the next few months.

I've used IM engines since the heyday of ICQ and now am an IM poweruser. Although the .7x builds of trillian were incredibly useful, the interface was beginning to get fairly outdated, especially with the release of AIM5 with its themes and the new and popular feature that informed you your chatter was entering text. Trillian pro one ups AIM5 with it's fresh and clean interface and wealth of features. While you don't get the latter of the mentioned features in AIM5 you get the ability to customize you're own engine with various plugins (that aren't forcely installed as stealthware), skins and easy-to-use chatting windows! Plus, who in the world would want to keep track of up to 5 IM engines at once. Get this software, for your $25 you won't regret it! great potential but misses audio/video capabilitesby - October 8, 2002
Pros:
Cons:
Review:
Trilliam free and pro are great products mainly because you can connect to MSN, Yahoo, AOL, ICQ IMs and IRC networks. However it still has not include voice chat nor video broadcast (webcam). Both of these are used by at least MSN and yahoo messenger. This tools make the chatting experience more human-like. When they add these messing capabilities, Trilliam will be the best IM on the market.

excellent full featured programby - October 8, 2002
Pros:
Cons:
Review:
I've been using Trillian since the 0.5x days and recently got Trillian Pro for free since I donated in the past. The program is excellent for people who have friends on multiple systems and lack the screen space to coordinate everything. The basic features work great, the memory allocation is small (makes a huge difference when you run AIM/ICQ/MSN all at once and you dont have much RAM), and many advanced features are here (but I never use them). You can connect to various accounts with the same IM at once (eg multiple AIM accounts), and set global parameter. A must get if you want to simplify your messaging.

Not worth the $25by - October 8, 2002

The free version is perfect for the average user. It's silly to spend $25 when the free version is more than adequate, and boats most of the features you'd find in Trillian Pro anyway.

The best IM out there, but it's not freeby - October 7, 2002

This is the best IM I've ever used and I won't change. The plug-ins are great and finally you can show yourself visible or invisible to a person who use ICQ undependent of what you choose to be to the rest. Short, I love it, but it could still be improved in some areas and it's not free

PRO OWNS 0.74by - October 7, 2002
Pros:
Cons:
Review:
This thing is better looking, more stable, more features... it's a world better the free version. Get it if you can! Advanced users and frequent users benefit the most- especially if you use MSN, ICQ, and AIM. Yahoo in 1.0 allows camera use, however, quality is subpar. Still, this app is AMAZING.

SIMPLY PHENOMINAL!by - October 7, 2002

I've been following this program for almost 3 years and it is really shaping up into some spectacular. It's easy to set up all the major IM's for use in one contact list, and the program is incredibly feature packed. I've used the free version for years and recently bought the Pro version for $25 and feel that it is just some of the best $$ I've ever spent on software. Download the free version and give it a try!

what happens when they get blocked?by - October 7, 2002
Pros:
Cons:
Review:
What will happen when AIM, Yahoo, MSN, & ICQ block trillian again? You think they'll let others profit off of THEIR services, THEIR products, & THEIR resources? Trillian will be completely worthless, and everyone who paid $25 for the software that sold what wasn't theirs to begin with will be left out in the cold... again.

This product has been a lifesaveer for me for ages! Having been online since before the mighty Al Gore even invented the internet, I have online contacts all over the place, on all different mediums. Trillian's free version allowed me to use one interface to talk to them all. Now, I can more fuly control my chat environment with pro than I ever could before.

It owns all other IM clients. Bottom line.by - October 7, 2002
Pros:

Review:
This IM client owns all other IM clients. I usually NEVER buy software much, and you would think I wouldn't buy an IM client of all things. After seeing Trillian Pro's site, interface, screenshots, etc., I was quickly seduced into buying. I'm showing it off to my friends - and they're going to buy it soon, too. You also get special Members-only access to a Trillian Pro Lounge. The forum is nice and the community is full of great people. I do not regret using my money on this one bit. If I can afford this you can. Buy Trillian Pro today! Many thanks to Scott, Kevin, and Kid (main Trillian team).

This is great program, makes life a lot easier but I did find 2 flaws, it doesn't allow you to find new contacts or new contacts to find you and the SMS part is a total waste of space, can't use it all. But it is overall definitely a great program

Frankly, it is the best messenger client you could use. There's not much mention of the free version here, but even that kicks butt and is not very "stripped down". Give it a try! There are no ads, spyware, or bloatware.

A serious program for the serious communicators.by - October 6, 2002
Pros:
Cons:
Review:
Cerulean Studios listens to their users more than any other IM company out there. They have produced an incredible piece of software that deserves support just as any other pruductivity app does. It's stable, has tons of features, and is ever expanding thanks to plugins. Considering this is software that many people run 24 hours a day, $25 seems very reasonable. If you buy one piece of software from the internet this year, make it Trillian. I already have.

It has rock solid stability and flexability across mulltiple IM platformsby - October 6, 2002
Pros:
Cons:
Review:
Trillian has always strived to offer multi-IM capabilities on one single program, with attention to making, as close as possible, it come with the same features the other IM programs come with. With the addition of Trillian Pro to the product line it has gotten very close to this goal, save a few minor bugs with the yahoo webcam and server side ICQ buddylists, but hands down offers unsurpassed functionality, without compromising its unbloated and, thanks to its skinnability, attractive user interface.

When trillian was free, it was awesome, but now that I've paid for Pro, I'll never go back. I've used all the instant messengers you can get your hands on, Including other messengers that provide multiple connections like trillian, and Trillian is my #1 choice. Now for free upgrades for the product for a whole year, you havee to admit that it's worth the two dolars a month

The Envy of All IMsby - October 6, 2002
Pros:

Review:
Well, what can I say! This is an excellent piece of software. The price tag is well worth it, plus if you have ever donated more than $1 to them in the past, you get it for free, as I did. All features of the free version, and awesome plug-ins. The Mail notification feature is quite great. You can also change the background within a skin. If for nothing else Trillian will get my money again when year comes around just because I want it to stay alive, and continue giving the IM community hope.

This thing ROCKS!!! The free version was good enough. However, the new plugin extensibility is a very promising feature, especially when the SDK matures. I can't wait to see what kind of plugins become available. Too bad they haven't figured out how to make it spit coffee out of your serial port yet...
