"Very solid hard drive" on by andyd103
Pros: Solid drive
Reliable
i have over 44,000 hours on mine now and its still good
drive has seen a whopping 2 TB's of data, written and deleted off of it in the last 5 or so years, that is the equivalent to being reformatted over 22 times, when full.Cons: Slow as anything compared to my new deskstars. (2TB)
Summary: Amazing hard drive, seen more mistreatment and use than any hard drive should have to endure.

"This drive is perfect for most users..." on by RobTheITGuyInPA
Pros: The drive is very reliable, runs well, quiet, and very smooth. It also has a very low price for what you get.
Cons: You sacrifice some speed here. Even with an onboard 8 MB of cache, the drive does not run as fast as some I have tried.
Summary: Here we go: Hitachi Global Storage Technologies bought IBM's hard drive division. HGST is an outstanding company with a strong background in manufacturing quality products. This hard drive, the 7K80 SATA-II, is a great drive for the money. I paid $60 for mine from TigerDirect. This drive is literally whisper-quiet, even compared to my previous WD Raptor. The drive runs smoothly. So far, it appears to be very reliable. It works well with my custom-built system (AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+, MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum, 1GB Corsair XMS Pro RAM). The drive runs like a champ. The only downside is that the speed is not quite what I'd like to see in a modern hard disk. It's speed can be compared to another former drive I had, a Maxtor 80GB ATA-133. However, all of the pros definitely outweigh the little speed problem. Great drive for the dollar. I give this drive a 9 out of 10, no question about it.
