"A great drive for large amounts of storage"
onSummary I bought this drive and installed it in a USB 2 case for my Win XP PC. Installation and operation went smoothly. Sometimes a bit noisy on seeks though.

"All IBM drives suck..."
onSummary IBM drives (including mine) are failing all over the place. My 40G GXP just failed, wiping out all of my data (won't spin up). There's a class action suit on the 75GXP drives. Now they want to market 120GXP?!? Never, never buy an IBM drive.

"DeskStar series have MAJOR problems"
onSummary I don't know about this particular model, but I had a DeskStar drive die on me last year. no problem, had it swapped out, and all was fine. then 5 months later i find bad sectors on a drive on another PC. dont take much notice, bad sectors arent end of the world. then i find bad sectors appearing all over my THIRD drive. So i search the 'net. People have been having MAJOR MAJOR problems with this series. IBM won't admit it. You can find huge numbers of pages of unsatisfied users with lost data. One techie said he'd his company had been replacing these drives in the hundreds every day. P.S. My system is equipped with a UPS, PSU fan, exhaust fan, circulation fan, and both drives were fitted in 5.25" cooling bays. So heat and electricity is not an issue here. I had 3x45gb

"IBM says 11 hours per day"
onSummary IBM says this drive can only spin 11 hours per day, 333 hours per month. Crazy. I have 8 IBM drives and would not buy another drive until they get their act together. Sad, very sad. My company quit buying IBM drives 6 months ago.
