"Might work out 4 you, Might!"
onPros None really. Appealing due to its size/speed but what does that matter if it doesn't last. Get a reliable brand Seagate Western Digital anybody that cares enough to support there own drives and has at least 3 yr warranty.
Cons Be cautious of Deskstar drives. IBM gave up on them & Hitachi now does the support. Just had a IBM Deskstar 40Gb 7200RPM start "chirping" and shut down(stops spinning) on 05/26/04.

"Deskstar crash common"
on by Jack ToolinPros Well, it worked for a while.
Cons Deskstars apparently have history of failure.
Summary The reason I'm here is that I'm looking for a new drive to replace the Deskstar that crashed about a month ago. I unfortunately did not back up the data on the drive and I'm going to have to pay thousands to recover it.
I spoke with a data recovery business that said they had seen many Deskstars fail - to the extent that they contacted IBM about it. But IBM refused to acknowledge a problem. I won't be buying a Deskstar again. -
"IBM "DeathStar""
onPros works for a few months to maybe a year
Cons after a few months the "click of death" starts to happen. just started happening to me and it crashes 3 times a day. IBM wont replace even though its only a month out of warranty. bottom line DONT buy it because its cheap. buy a seagate!

"MY GOD, Do not buy this drive"
onPros Very fast drive
Cons I work in the music industry and used my "trusty" ibm deskstar 80gb drive to store our production masters, after 8 months the drive just totally died resulting in me loosing my job. Aswell as this my boss filed a law suit against me and so far I've lost

"so much for the IBM reputation"
onPros that it works
Cons when it fails. Oh, and when the replacement drive fails also after being told the first one was "part of a bad batch".
