  • "Deskstar crash common"
    2.0 stars
    on by Jack Toolin

Pros: Well, it worked for a while.

Cons: Deskstars apparently have history of failure.

Summary: The reason I'm here is that I'm looking for a new drive to replace the Deskstar that crashed about a month ago. I unfortunately did not back up the data on the drive and I'm going to have to pay thousands to recover it.

I spoke with a data recovery business that said they had seen many Deskstars fail - to the extent that they contacted IBM about it. But IBM refused to acknowledge a problem. I won't be buying a Deskstar again.
