Cons If it lasts longer than a year, then consider yourself ahead of most. I have had several of these drives- all of which failed within the first or second year. IBM will send a replacement, but guess what- SAME DRIVE. You would do well to stay away from on | Read full review

"IBM 75GXP part#DTLA-307075"
onSummary This drive has a very large failure rate. Some say over 50% of the drive's sold have failed. I have had three such drives and all three have failed. Causing lose of all your data. See more:http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0%2Caid%2C67608%2C00.asp

"FOURTH failure in 1 YEAR!"
onSummary This is ridiculous... Fourt Drive sent back this year. I have 2 systems. Both run 2 drives each using them as a mirror raid (all 4 drives are 11 months old each). In all FOUR drives have crashed on me. I FINALLY saw some info about repeat failures on a site and did a search. I ended up here and saw that I was not alone. All I have to say is DO NOT BUY IBM DRIVES or you will regret it!!!!! I guess I will check out SEAGATE!

"It WILL die, give it time."
onSummary I have an Alienware which came w/ dual Deskstar 75GB drives. The first month I had it, one of the drives developed bad sectors. It failed the "smart" tests, and now, recently in a blaze of screeching and clicking, died. Unfortunately, I put too much trust in IBM and the quality of their drive and did not have the data backed up. Don't make the same mistake I did. All of your important work will be lost if you rely completely on these IBM drives (DTLA-307075). Lost all my work and trust....

"Deskstars Suck"
onSummary I am a consultant and having been in the field for over 6 years, I can tell you that the Deskstar (SCSI and IDE) are the most unreliable suckers on the market. Go with Western Digital if you don't want to reinstall and restore from backup anytime soon. Read user reviews of other deskstars. It'd be foolish to assume that they're all talking sooth.

"Does not last"
onSummary Worked fine for 6 months, Then failure after failure. Twice bad sectors in critical area caused me to reformat and etc. You know the story. I have not had any other HD give me problems in the first two years. AND YES I leave my computer on 24/7/365. Replaced the deskstar with a MAXTOR and it has run like a champ.

"Good or Bad... I'm not sure"
onSummary I have a IBM 75GXP and a IBM 60 GXP. My first drive (the 75GXP) suddenly was making a strange sound every 5 or 6 seconds. That's how I found about the 75GXP problem on the internet. The IBM Drive Fitness test reported a bad drive and gave me a RMA. I decided to cool the drive with a hard drive cooler, and the sound got away and I never have any problem (for almost 1 year). Final toughts... When it work, it's working great; but ...

"Lost it all"
onSummary I had tons of irreplaceable data on this thing. Came home after traveling and it was making the grinding noise. There's a class-action law suit because of this thing. Do a Google Usenet search and see just how many people have had problems with this POS. I NEVER post to review boards except for this post. I'm RMA-ing that drive in a Western Diginal box.

"3 of my 75GXP went bad so far!"
onSummary Each drive lasted about six months and then they start - click-click-click-click pause click-click-click-click and you know they're toast right then. These drives are pure junk. IBM should be forced to have a national recall of these drives.

"GOING ON MY FOURTH "4!" rma"
onSummary I WAS VERY HAPPY WITH MY NEW IBM AT FIRST IT IS ONE OF THE FASTEST I HAVE INSTALLED EVER.. That was dec 2001.. By march that all changed when my hdd failed and i rma it back. Ok i thought so i got a bad one. so no problem i reinstalled my os and i was on my way... On my way to the next crash..This hdd was so fast it crash and burned this time 3 months after i got it back..the next one i got back from ibm only lasted 7 weeks but i was wise this time..ya, i used it for a "backup drive" yep. i didnt put anything on it i couldnt afford to lose.. it died and ibm is perfectly happy to send another piece of junk.. thank you ibm.. thanks for all the trouble. thanks for teaching me a valuable lesson. how dare i buy hdd's and expect them to last? I called them and they smuggly told me i was only going to get the finest selection of same model and like it or lump it i cant get something different so take the reamin. well F*** you ibm.......

"Avoid at all costs"
onSummary I bought 4 75gxp's for 4 computers. Within 6 months 2 started the 4 scratch 4 click sound of death. RMA's received new ones, then 1 original and 1 replaced drive started the scratch and clicks. They keep sending back the same defective drives... Will never buy IBM drives again.

"Buy anything else!"
onSummary I read reviews about the performance of this drive and purchased it for my personal system. It completely died 2 weeks after I installed it! I got a replacement which died 2 months later. I contacted IBM only to be treated like an invalid. The "support person" came close to blaming me for the malfunctions! Never, never, never will I buy any IBM drive, or any other IBM product for that matter just because of their arrogant and condescending attitude towards their "CLIENTS". Hello MAXTOR and WESTERN DIGITAL!
-
"They got me too!"
onSummary I bought two 40 gig joints. They were blazing fast when I got them. Then I started getting the bad sector problem. Fixed that kept happening. Then the scratching sounds. I went to an airforce base on a high school trip. Someone yelled out 'DON'T DO IT!". Take that advice.

"I named mine "Mr. Clicky""
onSummary And so will you, because clicking sounds will be all you'll ever hear from this drive once it starts to go bad.
