CNET editors' buying advice
We have not reviewed this product but here is CNET's buying advice on Internal Hard Drives. This content was chosen based on the features included with this model of internal hard drive.
Serial ATA-300
SATA, or Serial ATA is the current popular choice of hard drive interface for desktop systems. SATA-300 is the current standard, and is capable of transferring 300 Megabytes per second. While SCSI drives are capable of faster transfer speeds, the drives, bus controller, and cables are much more expensive, relegating their use to servers and applications where transfer speed is an absolute must. Note that if you are shopping for an upgrade to a system that is a couple of years old, it may not support SATA-300, and not operate at it's full potential. If it is any older than that, it may not support the SATA standard at all, and you should check your system's specifications for details.

CNET product brief
Description: The Western Digital Caviar Blue WD2000JS is a 200GB, standard hard disk drive.Compared to other standard hard drives on the market, it is relatively inexpensive at around $145.Compared to a typical hard drive, its maximum internal data transfer rate of 93.5 MBps is very fast (this is the rate at which the drive actually reads data from the disk surface). Its burst transfer rate (which is how fast the drive moves data already in its cache into your computer) is 300 MBps.This is a 7200 rpm drive and comes with an 8MB buffer.
Pros: Has a 200GB capacity, which is larger than some similarly priced hard drives. In fact, the average cost of a product with this large a capacity is $175.With a Serial ATA-300 controller interface, this drive sports one of the most advanced technologies for high-speed data transfer. This drive includes a technology designed to optimize the operation of the disc for lower sound emission.
Cons: None noted, given available product data.
Suitability: A standard hard drive, suited for general computing. This drive accepts not only a SATA power connector, but also an IDE power connector, making it easier to install in conventional PCs (it still requires that you install a Serial ATA controller card, of course).
Value: In view of its relatively inexpensive price, this hard drive has great features for the money.
