"Warranty won't be honored!"
on by dslhunterPros large capacity
Cons failed after one year, company refuses to honor warranty.
Summary I bought this drive and was assured by WD that the warranty was 3 years even though the box listed only 1 year. The drive failed shortly after 1 year, and it took numerous emails and phone calls to even get a response from WD.
The bottom line is that they are now claiming the drive is "out of warranty", and they refuse to do anything except offer to sell me a new drive.
By all means, pay attention to the other members on this site when they say this drive fails, customer service sucks, and the warranty will not be honored.
I got stuck with a $250 lemon. -
"Something Broke"
onCons I purchaed a Dell Dimension 8300 in January. It comes with the Western Digital Caviar 250. I got a disk error in July and had to have it replaced. The technician said it sounded like the reader broke. Then this past Wedsneday, the same thing happened

"Poor Support from Buy.com"
onPros At least the harddrive was in the box.
Cons Disappointed in that the harddrive came with no instructions, hardware, ribbon cable, etc. of which I expected. BUY.com has no telephone number to call so, they reply via email. This is day 4 and still no answers to my question.

"Won't last, warranty no good"
on by sroyetonPros Fast drive
Cons Only lasts about 6 months, won't honor 3 year warranty
Summary I purchased one of these drives in hopes it would be the last drive I would need to purchase for a long time. It worked fine for about 6 months and being an 8Meg cache it was supposed to have a 3 year warranty. Western Digital replaced it with a 2Meg cache drive and when I tried to get an 8Meg cache drive to replace the drive I sent in, they refused to do anything about it. The 2Meg cache drive lasted about the same amount of time.

"Stay Away If Your Data Is Important"

Cons Breaks down after a few months, wipping data out
Summary This drive has failed 3 times within the last year, leaving the most of the data on it unreadable. I never had such a bad experience with any hard-drive. The irony is that I bought it to replace my 5 year old Maxtor drive fearing it will break down since it's so old. I guess WD has the last laugh!
