If you're already an EarthLink member and want to set up your free blog or hobby site, there's no earthly reason to leave EarthLink. EarthLink provides everything you need, and unlike Yahoo and Tripod, it won't cheapen your Web site with paid advertising. If you want to set up an online business or a storefront without wading through a ton of HTML yourself, EarthLink remains a solid choice. While there are hundreds of inexpensive hosting companies offering the same features as EarthLink for around $7 per month, we recommend trusting your online business presence to a proven host. Small businesses are best off with a name brand such as EarthLink, with its easy-to-use tools and 24/7 technical-support team, but we also recommend that you consider Yahoo. Signing up for EarthLink Web hosting is fairly simple--just fill out a couple of online forms. For free sites, EarthLink creates your page within the EarthLink domain. For paid sites, EarthLink registers a new domain ($40 for two years), and your site will be available in 24 hours. Unfortunately, transferring existing domain names to EarthLink is more of a hassle: you have to manually change the domain servers on your Domain Name Service record, then wait about 48 hours for your site to become active.
