"The best. I highly recommend them" on by D-Baer
Pros: Great service and very high reliability
Cons: Like most they are experimenting with offshore service (YUK)
Summary: I have been with them since they were interramp, then mindspring and now Earthlink. They always seem to be up on the latest improvements and are very customer orientated. Their uptime is excellent and their protection tools (spam blocker Etc) actually work. Most of all, they seem to really care about their customers.

"Beware of Earthlink's Urchin Visitor Reporting!" on by ristan
Pros: Adequate visitor reporting...when it actually works, that is.
Cons: Urchin Visitor Reporting has been DOWN for a couple of months with no fix in sight!
Summary: Beware of Earthlink's Urchin Visitor Reporting feature! I have NOT been able to obtain ANY visitor reporting for my "free web space" website for a couple of months! Earthlink customer service has been very poor regarding this issue, and is going downhill in general very quickly. I have contacted Earthlink about this Urchin problem 7 times over the last two months, via phone, email, and LiveChat, but still no resolution. Earthlink customer service reps are not very knowledgeable about the product, they transfer you unnecessarily to the wrong departments (after you've already been on hold), they repeatedly rattle off default sentences from their prepared scripts, and they seem to make up out of thin air any timeframe they quote to you about resolution for the Urchin problem. For example, I have been assured that their engineers would fix the problem in "3-4 days", "1-2 days", etc. And that was told to me WEEKS ago! My only consolation is that I am not alone. I have been told that many Earthlink web hosting customers are having this same problem with their Urchin Visitor Reporting. I have lost all faith in Earthlink's ability to fix this problem.

I paid my money for nothing. -
"A steep premium for inferior hosting" on by squirpy
Pros: Service only crashed once in 10 years that i know of, but it was a doozy. Good spam filtering. Allows full domain emails - anyaddress@yoursite.com makes it through.
Cons: $20 a month for 5GB - out of touch with today's shared hosting marketplace. I had over 40,000 IP neighbors with Earthlink. Uploads and downloads were slow compared to other shared hosting providers I've used.
Summary: $20 a month for 5 GB storage, on a server I share with 40,000 other domains. In 2008 Earthlink's server crashed, all of Earthlink's hosted sites and all email went down for almost 24 hours. Earthlink's own site was down. No redundancy? No backup servers? When they finally got it back up, there was no explanation, no apology. Tell me again why i was paying $20 a month when almost any other shared hosting provider charges a quarter of that - for unlimited storage, multiple domains, while sharing with fewer IP neighbors?

"shutdown my biz email & site after 10 yrs, no warning" on by Montner_PR
Pros: Reliable, affordable, good Web admin user interface, good spam blocking, IP address for site allowed external DNS so I could do email Sender ID auth
Cons: After 10 years, EarthLink deactivated my company email & site with no contact; customer service gave me run-around; no email Sender ID or DKIM authentication options so had bad email delivery results; legitimate company email marked as spam
Summary: I have been an EarthLink customer for ten years with a simple business Web site and email hosted by EarthLink. On Friday, June 5, 2009, my email accounts and Web site were deactivated with no notice or contact. I learned of this from my customers. Use EarthLink if you think this is acceptable customer service.
Also I could not authenticate my email with them and went to considerable effort to learn how to implement Sender ID while using their hosted email service. Much of my email was marked as spam for clients due to this issue. Also had huge spoofing problems; they are in denial about need for email sender ID authentication.
