"DO NOT UPGRADE TO AVG 8.0"
Pros: nice interface thats it.
Cons: To many to list here
Summary: I was running 7.5 antivirus on my laptop with visa. Decided to upgrade to 8.0 for free. What a mistake, I lost my wireless connection and dsl also. After hours of trouble shooting and with tech support help no luck. More hours of trouble shooting on my own, only to find out the add-on's they added to internet explorer with the yahoo tool bar was the problem. Even when I tried to disable the add-on?s and get rid of yahoo toolbar it didn?t help. By the end of the night I was getting a message that AVG 8.0 was missing a driver and email scanner was not working, what a mess. Once I deleted the program everything was find with internet explorer. As a long term user of AVG I was not a happy camper. Now running NOD32 3.0 smart security, very happy with it. Makes AVG 8.0 look like a second rate antivirus program.

Sounds like a classic case of operator error... whenever my networks licensed AV is not picking up the problems... AVG has had a 100% success rate so far. I'm typing this as its cleaning out yet another decimated laptop. Sad part is my clients go out and pay 50-60 bucks for something that is just as good when its free.

Installing many types of complex software can be a crapshoot. Some of it lies with Windows itself, sometimes the BIOS or memory and even the installation routine itself. I?ve known high level programmers who feel it is beneath them to create the installation and it is left to some novice.
Forget neontco's comments, he does not even mention WinPatrol or spell properly--so much for his so-called IT degrees! -
to tell the truth, you should not be writing a review unless u are a 15 year computer user who has degrees in Information Technology like me. I have been using AVG 8 since it has been out and have had no such problems. I use AVG 8 along with Ad-aware and Spybot Search & Destroy programs and am Virus, Trojan, Hijacker, and Rogue Antivirus free... Learn to use a computer before you discourage other people from useing good software.

It works fine with Firefox (both 2 and 3)

Wish I had seen this thread first before putting AVG Free V8 on my mates laptop which I had just fully rebuilt.
Had internet before I installed AVG 8 and now it only tries to load some AVG page without success. I can login in to my router so network is OK.
Also, UDP reports "internet connected" at the right speed.
Also pi$$ed at the Yawhoo toolbar installing as I specifically untick it during the install.
Have been a long time PAID user of AVG so I hope they release a fix REAL QUICK.
Off to their support now (via my paid license) to get them to fix it. -
I have read at least 100 comments on AVG 8 and it appears we are all saying the same thing,it is nowhere near the a/v of AVG 7.5. To slow, the toolbar is garbage, and as for me I am back to running the 7.5 version after doing a SYSTEM RECOVERY. I believe Grisoft will refine their product in the the very near future but until they do if you have the 7.5 version stay with it.
