"Great for people with a lot of free time on their hands"
Pros: It looks ok...and they have a pretty website
Cons: The entire product really. After installation it all goes down like a lead balloon
Summary: On first impressions, after reading a few reviews on AVG and using one of the free versions of AVG at one point myself, I thought that this software was going to be a pretty safe bet...how wrong could I have been!
After a fairly easy installation onto my machines I couldn't help but notice that they were running a bit slow, which in some ways, is acceptable at first as the software will continue to write new rules when it has first been installed. For the first few days I tried to ignore the slow performance and 'write it off' as the software 'settling in', instead I was more focused on what could possibly be effecting my internet connection, as all of a sudden, everything had become incredibly slow. After a few minutes of 'playing about' I found that turning the "Active Surf-Shield" off seemed to help a bit, and that even thinking about touching the "Search-Shield" button was a big no-no as this would cause my systems to throw fits of panic, locking up for a whilst before asking conformation, then spending a few minutes locked up again, at this point I would go and make a cup of tea and try to wait it out.
By the third day I'd realised that I'd spent most of my time waiting for the computer to catch up with what I was doing, and that I'd drunk through quite a few cartons of milk in the process (always a bad sign). At this point I was quite aggravated with the system performance constantly lagging behing and decided to see what options I could change to speed things up a bit.
From the main control panel I can...look at the icons and that?s about it. When AVG state you don't need to be a security wiz-kid to use their software they weren?t joking, because you can't use their software. The control panel basically tells you what you already know, what you have turned on, and what you have turned off. To get to the more 'meaty' options you have to try and navigate your way through the more complicated scary sounding "Advanced options".
After fiddling around with a few scanning setting and memory usage rights I had found that the software had dramatically improved, I could move the pointer on the screen smoothly, I could have more than three tabs on IE open at the same time...obviously not good enough. I don?t think people understand how slow, slow is when they read some of the available reviews, on my system it has taken twice as long (sometimes longer) to open a small word document or internet page
I would avoid this release; I would imagine it will leave you horribly disappointed...thank goodness for the 30day money back guarantee!

This software sucks. They immediately took my money, and I have been trying ever since to get it back. I WOULD NEVER RECOMEND THIS CRAP SOFTWARE TO ANYONE. THERE IS NO PHONE NUMBER TO CALL AND IT TOOK FOREVER TO EVEN FIND A POINT TO REQUEST MY REFUND VIA THEIR CRAPPY WEBSITE. I THING THEY STOLE MY $92.94 AND I WANT EVERYONE IN THE WORLD TO KNOW SO THEY DON'T BUY THIS CRAP AND GET RIPPED OFF.
