"Cryptic Alerts, hard-disk corruptions, crappy drive-by protection..stay away"

by lidieyu on September 10, 2007

Pros: Its has a Green box

Cons: Where do I start ?

Summary: I installed this product and have had nothing but problems - slow browsing, chkdsk issues with what appear to be file system corruption issues - VERY SERIOUS PROBLEMS. Stay away from this product. Get NAV2008 instead.

Did the editor really review this product - there seems to be nothing of any value in this review and probably one of the more ridiculous ones I've seen.

"feels complete as a standalone product and not, like Norton Antivirus 2008, a cog in larger family of products" - what the? It "feels" complete? Talk about objective reviewing.

"Once again, Kaspersky requires considerably less disk space than Norton" - Who cares about diskspace. Is this guy kidding me. Looks like he couldn't find anything bad with Norton that he had to nitpick.

"Still, Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7 provides the most complete antivirus production on the market today" - and how did he come to this conclusion ? Did he test at all ?

"Also, unlike Norton's morbid, black border, we like the open, bright, and colorful interface of Kaspersky that is skinnable to suite your own tastes. " - it gets more ridiculous. Yeah your average user is spending their time skinning their security product.. Suuuuurreee.

"Kaspersky offers antirootkit protection as well" - but does it work. I had a Rustok infection a while back with KIS7 and after "cleaning" my PC I ended up with an infinite blue screen loop..

"Unlike Norton, Kaspersky can, by default, scan only recently changed files, greatly shortening the overall scan time considerably." - This feature has ZERO value when the definitions are changing hourly as Kaspersky claims. As soon as the defs change they end up rescanning ALL files.

"There are also active user forums" - have you seen their server lately. The performance is pathetic.

And whats with all those damn alerts. It even prompts me to ALLOW/BLOCK when it detects a VIRUS!! Very sad.

NOT A HAPPY CUSTOMER. Mr. Varmosi, get your act together and stop recommending crap.

I have started out with Norton way back when. Found Kav 5 worked great. Upgraded to Kav 6 had problems. Found workarounds. But to me the only draw back from using upgrading to 7 on all my systems is the chkdsk problem a few others have experienced. Not technical enough to know if its that serious but frightens me a bit. I do own a license for KIS 7 and email Kaspersy for a response. Email was not helpful and not worth the time. Wanted me to do all sorts of things. Found a faq on Kaspserky site explaining this issue but cannot make heads or tails of it:). Am using nod32 on one system and just purchased Bitdefender 2008 IS 2 year license for a alot less than KI7. Oh well. Wish I did did not experince the chkdsk problem but others do not have this issue.

Well, its very apparent that this "user" opinion was generated by someone at Symantec. Its a shame that Symantec has let its products and support slide soooo far downhill. With all its resources, it should be producing nothing short of the best products & support services on the market. Instead it has continued to rework its same old, slow engine for years, and shipped off its customer support to India, where quite often the support person doent even understand the problem, nor can communicate in a manner thats even understandable. And WHY is it that even these newer, less capitalized software companies can bring a better product to market? And when they do, why doesn't Symantec learn and improve their products instead of sending these hackmen to try and make these obviously transparent claims of 'inferiority' of better products??
Peter Norton... you must be lowering your head just a bit in shame (on your beach somewhere). What they've done to your company!
