Pros Easy to remove.
Cons Although I have used Ad-Aware before with satisfaction this product wasn't worth the delays it caused.
Pros Automatically updates product.
Cons no obvious problems but I frequently disable Ad-Watch as I don't feel that I need to have that running in the background.
Summary While I really liked Ad-Aware, I do not rely on it totally to keep my machine clean. That is not a criticism of Ad-Aware; that is typical of all the similar products out there. I believe you need to run a number of different programs regularly to keep your machine running clean. Ad-Aware is an important part of my maintenance program.
Pros Good catch counts on tests by reputable labs. Also goes into dormant mode during games.
Cons Updates can be a pain (as updates generally are). Found a rootkit from Livejournal that Norton 360 (I am not generally a fan of Norton) failed to find.
Summary Unfortunately, you need both adware and virus suites. This is a good piece of adware.
Pros Rather efficient in finding hidden "bugs" left over by AVG.
Good cooperation work with Super Antispyware Free
Cons Not fully tested, some suspect of PC slowing,
Summary My triangular security fortress (AVG+Lavasoft+Super Antispyware) seems to be very efficient in team work.Every one of these SWs covers a very good amount of tasks the remaining is given by my open eyes, and permanent alert.
Pros It does provide real-time protection along with pop-ups to allow you to accept or reject. I especially like the registry change/update protection although I'm not sure how thorough it is. I review the log consistently to see the "protection".
Cons It's a performance hog. My PC doesn't have a lot of memory or a fast CPU (4 yr-old laptop). Had to stop AA from auto loading to keep the laptop running smoothly. It's a toss-up between Sym & Ad-Aware - can't afford to run 2 concurrent resource hogs.
Summary As a result of the performance issues, I only start it when I'm exclusively browsing the internet with no other apps running. Therefore, it's only utilized less than 15% of the time I use my laptop. I am looking for an alternative even though AA did point out a couple of issues I was not aware of.
