"Norton 360 2.0 Killed My Computer"

by ubnext on March 10, 2008

Pros: Norton 360 1.0 worked pretty well

Cons: Not sure - I can't use my computer when it is installed and their online chat support was not helpful at all

Summary: I got my notification to upgrade to Norton 360 2.0 as part of my subscription. I have used Norton products for years. I ran the installer Saturday, and spent the rest of Saturday and most of Sunday trying to get my computer to work. I spent 3+ hours chatting with Norton support, which proved to be completely useless. I would not install 2.0 unless you have time to work through potential issues. I finally reverted to an image of the system from the night before and everything works fine. Based on the quality of the support I received I removed Norton from both of my computers today and purchased a competitor's solution.

I would be very cautious about installing this software.

Thanks for the review! I am not an advanced user but get around on my computer. Shortly after my update to Norton V2, I realized my computer had completely "lost its mind" and oddly, I was missing major drivers required to support audio, etc. My computer slowed to a crawl and I had no clue what was going on.
My computer was built by Monarch Computer Systems (Atlanta, GA) to specifications outlined by my husband and his friend, making sure I would be running "state of the art" hardware/software. There, the purpose was to prevent any problems for me that I would not be able to resolve.
My glitch may be unrelated to Norton 360 v2.0 but the problems did not exist prior to my updating. It is now time to renew our subscription, which we have had for years.
Comcast offers Symantec free for its broadband customers (have been with them for 8 years) and I think it may be time for a change. My sister is a government computer expert w/years of experience. Swears by Symantec.
    Wish me luck.
