"Avoid Like the Plague"
Pros: Can't Find Any
Cons: CPU Hog, Not Customizable. CPU Hog
Summary: As a (former) fan of Symantec Corporate virus solutions while managing big networks, it pains me to say how awful an experience we had with Norton 360 Version 2. The idea is cool: a comprehensive solution for small network. The execution is a mess.
The worst is that, even though they brag about it taking minimal resources for "background scans," we consistently saw ccSvcHst.exe taking up 70 to 99 percent of CPU cycles on three different XP machines. The strongest machine (mine) has 2 Gig RAM and a 2.8 GHz Intel P4 and I was unable to do any work while Norton 360 was running.
Even after shutting down one after the other of all modules included, it still ground my system to a halt, to the point that I had to uninstall it just to check my Email.
And, if you want, for instance, to turn of Phishing protection so you don't have to have the stupid Norton toolbar taking up browser real estate, Norton's start bar status icon has a big red X through it stating that something needs to be fixed even though it is only what I deliberately turned off (that way if something really were wrong, you wouldn't know).
Anyway, save yourself the headache and find a different anti-virus solution. I've lost better than six hours fighting with it and trying to make it work (terrible support by the way). The worst part is I used to be a fan and am now feeling a strong, seething hatred towards Symantec. Very sad.
