"Norton AV no longer a favorite"

Cons: Disappointingly abysmal
Summary: I abandoned NAV after nearly 15 years of loyalty-how long ago was DOS? I purchased it or upgrades every year through 2004.. The last few versions purchased were filled with problems installing, uninstalling previous version which didn't really uninstall, having to pay for tech service and multiple licenses for in-home use, and downloading utilities to "TOTAL UNINSTALL" previous version. A lot of their problems focus around the registry tracking of previously installed versions, and the update subscription. Now I use AVG which updates daily--no problems. I have friends using AVAST, too. FOR FREE

I've been a NAV fan for years. It worked flawlessly behind the scenes keeping my gear safe from the lastest outbreaks. Then NAV 2005 became a buggy product to keep up and running. It would lose it's activation frequently and after many instances of reactivating, required an arduous time consuming call to tech support (apparently in Pakistan) to reset the activation code. NAV 2006 was the straw that broke my back. It would lose my subscription information, claiming it was expired with a year left, then refuse to activate. After spending more than 4 hours on the phone (mostly on hold) with their outsourced tech support division and getting bounced around to sales and back to tech support, I surrendered. The only good thing I can say is they acknowleged their inability to solve the problem and refunded my money. I'll give Trend Micro a shot.

I think oldlady2 is upset, not because money was paid for a product, but because the purchased product is a waste of money. I think oldlady2 is saying you can get a better product with AVG or Avast and those two products are free. NAV seems to be heading in the direction as MS - not listening to what everyday people want in a product. I've tried my luck with NAV before - my luck had apparently run out. I will say if NAV would release an AV product like their Corporate Edition for the general public, NAV would gain respect and a strong foothold in the AV market.
