"Am I using NIS 2008 or 360"
on by AngryRaisinPros Leave feedback icon makes me feel my opinions are valued. New black and yellow background interface. Feels somewhat faster than 2007. Identity safe rocks!
Cons Feels as though I lost some control of my security solution. Don't exactly get the warm fuzzies about my storing password despite its convenience
Summary I was hoping that Norton/Symantec would distinguish the 360 line and the Internet Security line, but this brought them closer together; specifically the LiveUpdate no longer tells me what it is updating and the auto-protect scans seem like it is only off or on instead of only scanning new/modified documents. The cacheing mode seems interesting but I guess I'll need to pull out a stopwatch to figure if it works. Don't get me wrong though: very happy with the firewall protection and most of the time I don't notice my antivirus (that's a good thing for me). I am also happy that Symantec is making a solution/toolbar for Firefox.

"The best money can buy."
on by fishingman1Pros Excellent firewall and antivirus. Great spyware detection.
Cons Parental Control and Spam filter are a throw away.
Summary I have hated Norton products since NIS 2005. It was always thought of as a resource hog and bloatware. I have tested the new Security Suites for 2008 and have come to the conclusion the NIS 2008 is the best. There was no slow down in my laptop (2.26ghz, 2gb ram) nor my friends laptop (1.7ghz, 512mb ram). The firewall held up against attacks and the antivirus caught every piece that I had put on the computer. The parental controls were a joke. After about 15 minutes of messing around I was able to get onto some very bad sites. The spam filter marked almost all my messages as spam. You have the choice to not install or turn off the spam filter if it is deemed not necessary.

"Installing NIS 2008 is even worse than getting infected by a virus."
on by slliidPros All the previous versions of NIS served me sufficientlyT
Cons This one won't even work.
Summary It won't even install. The software has such a major bug that it won't even install. Symantec's support is catastrophic, you will DEFINITELY waste your time with them. And instead of fixing the problem, they'll make it worse. Extremely disappointed. I'm off to get another IS suite from another company.

"Disks would not load, Tech Support was stupid and insulting."
on by kb1025Pros Company has a good reputation
Cons Reputation is not going to help terrible products and service
Summary This was one of the worst experiences I have had with buying software. I thought if I bought the actual disk from Norton I would have no Problem. I ended up getting a refund. I am now looking for another Antivirus program.

"I consider norton to be a virus or at a minimum, mal-ware"
on by daliwongPros It will find a virus, but at a cost
Cons i've seen NAV ruin 3 good machines
Summary If you don't mind clicking on a folder and waiting 10-20 seconds for a response then by all means put this junk on your machine. you could get the same results by putting a free virus on yopur computer. the problem is, norton will not completley uninstall. the onl;y way to recover is to reinstall the OS. Isn't that the definition of mal-ware?
