Spyware Doctor from PC Tools Software is a polished and solid contender in the antispyware category. Sporting a sleek and easy-to-use interface, Spyware Doctor also packs a lot of protection under the hood and is backed up by one of the most aggressive spyware identification programs in the business. In testing done by CNET Download.com, Spyware Doctor 3.2 did very well, finishing near the top of the list for removing known spyware and tying for fourth with Webroot Spy Sweeper for overall performance. Since the December 2005 Download.com tests, PC Tools has released Spyware Doctor 3.5, which, in addition to other minor enhancements, offers advanced rootkit protection (a feature we did not test for in other apps). Spyware Doctor costs $29.95, which entitles you to 12 months of technical support, software upgrades, and live updates to its antispyware definitions. There is a free trial version available online, but it only identifies and doesn't remove any malicious programs it finds on your system unless you buy the app, a practice we think is just plain wrong. That said, Lavasoft Ad-aware, which offers a fully functioning free version, remains our overall recommendation for best antispyware application.

Installation is a breeze, and pressing the Finish button causes Spyware Doctor to launch its Live Update feature, which goes out and checks for the latest spyware database additions and program updates, then performs a full system scan. Spyware Doctor's scans were faster than most of the other antispyware programs' we've seen, but it still managed to catch all of the spyware we threw at it. There are also options for a Quick Scan, which didn't actually seem much quicker, and a Custom Scan.

Spyware Doctor is intuitive and easy to use, and all of its features are clearly labeled and accessible. In addition to the expected spyware scanning, there's a host of system immunization and real-time monitoring features available in the OnGuard section. Spyware Doctor also now has a powerful scheduler that allows you to automate full system scans, quick scans, and even its live program updates.

Spyware Doctor is one of the most aggressive antispyware programs we've tested, going beyond the call of duty by dealing with more than just traditional adware and spyware. Spyware Doctor also manages your tracking cookies; guards against changes to your browsers, start-up, and network configurations; and defends against illicit dialer and key-logger programs, and version 3.5 discovers and immunizes your PC against rootkits.

In testing performed by CNET Download.com, PC Tools Spyware Doctor took 21 minutes, 5 seconds to finish a full scan. This app found all of the big-name apps that we knew were present, but it also offered some vague entries that we could not confirm. While we liked the itemized list of threats, Spyware Doctor offered little information within the program about those threats, though it did offer links to Web pages that included detailed information. After removal and restart, Spyware Doctor left only one trace of spyware on our test machine.

Technical support via e-mail is included in the annual subscription price, and support requests are normally processed within 24 hours. There is also an extensive FAQ and tip section on the PC Tools Web site and a very thorough integrated help system.

Total Trash!

Pros: It was cheap. The Cheap comes out Expensive!!!!

Cons: Doesn't and didn't work! No tech support online. Took over a day to answer my questions with an email full of questions!

Review: Garbage. Didn't do what it said it would. Runs nonstop and bogs the computer down. Just got the worst virus ever that took Microsoft 7 HOURS to remove. Keep going. Micrtosoft OneCare is better by far and you get REAL tech support.

Dangerous product

Pros: Easy to download and run.

Cons: Dangerous...can cause damage to your disk

Review: This product trashed one of my USB drives and turned all the INND (Indesign) files in a directory of a hard drive into unreadable files. I made several test runs on a folder with junk MS Word (2003) files and it did little, but at least not damages despite there being tow corrupt files among the eight files. When I ran it on the INND files it was a disaster.

Absolute "WORST" Antispyware product I have ever used!!

Pros: Not One Single Thing (Oh! The little Doctor Character is cool looking)

Cons: Slows Down PC by 50% at least. Locks up PC Constantly. Missed 17 malwares on my PC One of which broke through my Firewall. Stay away from anything PC Tools sells.

Review: It gave me two months of misery trying to figure out why my PC kept locking up a running like a 286 on valium.

doesnt recognize or fix about:blank

Pros: It did find some spyware on my machine.

Cons: The fully paid for version doesnt work!!!

Review: This product touts that it removes spyware and hijacks. I have paid for the full version of the software. It doesnt recognize the about:blank hijack!!!! what a WASTE!!! I want my 100% guarantee money back. How did CNET not catch this either???

If you hate money, but love spyware! BUY THIS PRODUCT!

Pros: Um, a false sense of security, for a day or so?

Cons: Doesn't work
Support does not respond, EVER
Doesn't work
Impossible to get a refund
Doesn't work

Review: I read the review in Cnet and thought to myself, wow gee sounds like a great program! Now Im not sure what the staff was looking at when they reviewed pctool's spydoctor, but it was not the piece of trash I bought. It did nothing to rid my computer of spyware, and when I contacted support it took them 2 weeks to respond... with a message that they got my message.. and would contact me shortly. It then took 2 weeks to get another email ( and allot!! of emails to PCtools) Saying.. they got my email and would contact me shortly. Now im not sure what Pctools definition of shortly is, or for that matter support, but it is not mine. I m now trying to get a refund, and waiting for a response... shortly.

Total Failure

Pros: None at all

Cons: failed to remove spyware

Review: Failed to remove trojan download. After contacting tech support they refuse to refund. Total loss.

User Rating: 9/10

Fanatastic product served as advertised.

Pros: Removed all of the adware and trogans attacking my system very quickly and is easy to operate.

Cons: Did have a couple hiccups at first after installation as the SpyDoc intigrated intself into my PC.

Review: I am quite satisfied and wish I had bought it SOONER. After the terribble attacks on my system I spent 60 bucks on Symantecs newest Norton Internet Security software thinking my troubles would be fixed. WRONG!!!!!

It wasnt until I gave up on Norton and went with SpyDoctor ( after spending over 30 hours trying to rid my system of the crap ) did my troubles finally get resolved in a very timely manner with little effort on my end. Would reccomend it to others.

Finally just gave up

Pros: There are no Pros

Cons: difficult to use

Review: This product takes over startup. Computer freezes untill SD completes its "engine startup" which takes several minutes. SD caused several lockups and on two occassions I had to unplug my computer. I ran Norton for two years without a problem.
I finally just deleted the entire product although I still had over six months of paid subscription. I purchased SD after reading reviews on several "reliable" sites including but not limited to CNET.

Don't buy this!

Pros: easy to install; you can get 6 months license

Cons: SLOWS your computer to a crawl

Review: I bought the 6 month license, so I could evaluate this software. It NEVER loaded on start-up and it kept Norton from working properly. This software slowed my computer worse than the spyware!

Good product with ROTTEN updates

Pros: Easy to use and navigate, operates very well, keeps you well, informed on functions that it has performed.

Cons: You will learn to fear using the "Automatic Update". There is always a problem afer updating that usually takes an hour or more to resolve.

Review: ...From the start it was an easy transaction to take my money, and download the "Original" program and to order a CD. The Program works well, and is easy to navigate and understand. When an action is taken, the program is very informative on what happened and action to be taken.
The problems start when they send you the first "Automatic Update" and will continue on EVERY future "Automatic Update". Spyware Doctor products do NOT operate when other Virus protectins are present within the same computer!!! Thus the Support Staff informed me....I removed EVERY and ANY virus protection I had in my computer.....and still had problems with their "Automatic Updates".....the only way to fix the issue is to perform a FULL removal of Spyware Doctor Products and go to the Spyware Doctor site and RE-Download the product that you purchased, thus you will run with the new update....until the next "Automatic Update" is requested.
Figure this out before your first 30 days of using the prduct or your money is gone. They have an excellent support site....they have every error listed that you see after an "Automatic Update" unfortunatley, you will not be able to access the Program on your PC, your PC is locked up, or the problem has locked your system from accessing the web. Have access to another PC, you may need it to access the support site.

Okay, but not a 10

Pros: Works fairly well

Cons: Works very slowly

Review: Seems to find things that other programs don't, but slows down start up, and scans slowly. My real peave though, is that this past month my credit card was billed for a new subscription without my approval. While that might be okay, because I was still using the program, it didn't give me the choice, and I find that unforgiveable. I have as of yet, found a way to keep them from doing that. When I do, I will probably be getting rid of it for good, based on just that.

Computer slowed down considerably using Spyware Doctor

Pros: I guess it worked

Cons: Crashed and slowed down computer. Locked up after upgrading to SD 5.0. The daily manual apdates are annoying

Review: In the last few months I was falling asleep waiting for the next page to appear. I was not sure what was wrong with the computer but I decided to uninstall Spyware Doctor and install Webroot, Spy Sweeper. It was a good move. The computer is back to normal. SD might be good or better than SS, but what's the sense.

Knute Rockne Would be Proud.A block of Granite!

Pros: Count on it-It is good to reliable to excellent

Cons: This does so much however it can do it very fast, maybe to fast?

Review: I was at a point in time unable to determine how and what the source was with a influx of some rather terrible malware, the likes of which I had not heard of and though I may of thought That I was secure somehow I was not able as explained to determine the degree of the problems that were plaguing my computer. This was around Dec.2005.It was once spoken by a well known computing professional,"that once a trust is broken,it is broken".This was in reference to a heretofore unknown third party attempting to take over or at the very least cause some real problem in even day to day operations and as explained I had not a clue. This associated quote was due to the innocous presence this unknown series of violators contibuted to,it was un-nerving and was as I will digress ultimetly hurt my Dell Dimension Desktop.I'am unable though, though I most certainly will suggest that lurking as you will see was a rather nasty trojan that was accompanied by a dialer and even bringing with it some other nasties and all together as stated I was not able to determine how they came in and where in fact they came from.I also was surprised after all was said and done that all that I was carrying was scanning clean to a minor this or that, like a MRU.I had on board at the time Spysweeper,Trend-Micro's Anti-Spyware 3.0,AdwareSE, Spybot Search & Destroy and even at that particular point in time The respected ZoneAlarms Internet Security Suite 2005(firewall and [anti-virus-]with other protections in place as well.I had read some good reviews about Spyware Doctor and one of the influences that I yielded to though it is not the preferred position in so far as decision making is concerned was to allow the suggestion that perhaps what was needed was new technology which however mis-leading that may be in so far as this particular product was concerned it was the reviews that I read that promised something that whatever I was doing was not providing that which I wished to have and that was a spyware clean computer. The reviews to be certain did not promise something that hasn't been able to deliver and though there is a very real team effort at present and perhaps since maybe my earliest ecollections of logging on,I'am literally Spyware,Malware, and Virus free.I have purchased Spyware Doctor two years running with both my Inspiron 2200 and even my Dell Dimension 4300 having up to date copies as both computers have been covered from the beginning, and the beginning being in so far as Spyware Doctor is concerned was Dec.2005.I certainly do not want to mis-lead the viewer to suggest that this was the end all to be all but this guy is a team player and a very good team player he is.Spyware Doctor is on duty round the clock and its ever conscious position is seconded by other very capable anti-spyware applications, however you can customize the position Spyware Doctor is placed.A very recent experience proved to be one of the many almost inspiring stories that I enjoy telling about Spyware Doctor and for this review it was a bucket full of lead that caught a tracking cookie as it raced to keep up with Internet Explorer.Spyware Doctor was camped out on the far side, extreme right of the Explorer Address Bar when I was simply sitting at the keyboard and like watching an event unfold, a streak of light no bigger than a firefly made it way across my computer screen by way of the address bar only to be caught in a Spyware Doctor Filter.A moment later Spyware Doctor Notified me that there was now in captivity a tracking cookie with directions if I wished to take a closer look to look in this part of the application and so on.I felt at that particular point that that was worth mentioning.I saw it as it was the likeness of an event unfolding right before my eyes and the result was most desired.I gave Spyware Doctor the place as a member of the starting five,if you will, and these are the things that place that kind of thinking as to why I have such a high regard for the Spyware Doctor.A good to all around excellent contributor to my spyware clean, virus free computing environment.I would recommend Spyware Doctor to anyone who is in need of an anti-spyware software application. There is here one exception to be made aware of, Spyware Doctor can scan perhaps very fast in some of the many areas that you will use it to scan however most recently spyware doctor was coming up clean on a scan of a host file and rightfully so,however Windows Defender was informing me that there was an unruly presence positioning in the hosts file which has been judged to be almost the equal to a hi-jacked file.Windows Defender was correct and indeed Spyware Doctor may very well have known the file but the file was not flagged as perhaps it should of been, that is not to say that it was a problem at all merely a matter of how you look at it.Like I said I watched with care as I'am on board 24/7 with all hands at the ready.Spyware Doctor is a most reliable contibutor and as mentioned,Spyware Doctor is one of a host of applications both Hardware and software that have made computing much more a computers environment rather than otherwise.

Not a problem

Pros: Fast & Effective

Cons: None worse than any other program

Review: I have never had a problem with it. All the ratings are either love it or hate it, so all I can figure is that the people that hate it must have something else going wrong.

Renewed for another year...

Pros: Scans are intensive. Finds alot of my spyware issues

Cons: Email support is slow so use online chat

Review: I have used this product for a year. I used it with XP Home, then XP MCE, Norton System Works and ZoneAlarm Pro running with it. I had no issues. It was reliable and cleaned my system well. I used version 3.5 and now have upgraded to 4.0. I am currently running it with ZoneAlarm Pro 6.5,XP PRO SP2, and Kasperkys AV 6.0. I dont feel it has slowed my system down as some users have suggested but I do have 1gb or ram.
I did have an issue in renewing my subscription for my id key was not recognized, but I used the online chat which was available and got my issue resolved. I saved 10 dollars since I was a return customer.

spyware doctor is a QUACK

Pros: effective, I guess ...

Cons: they trick you into thinking it's free...

Review: I think spyware doctor is a big fake. why do they say FREE SCAN trial... then after it detects infection.. they tell you in order to remove infections you gotta purchase first... FALSE ADVERTISEMENT is what i would call it. nothing but a big F-A-K-E. to all the people reading this, don'ty be fooled by me. I'll just stick to TREND MICRO free online scan, or spy Bot search and destroy. atleast it's guarantee FREE.. no ******** whatsoever. I'm really disappointed with spywaredoctor regardless of the the good reviews and awards it has. for all I know those awards could be fake too.. It's easy to just paste a bunch of awards next to your ads.

I love Spyware Doctor

Pros: Kicks but on spyware.

Cons: Smart update

Review: I have turned on more people to this product than any other. I would not feel safe with out it. I keep it idle in the back ground even though I run a suite. I have not read one bad review or have had a single problem with Spyware Doc. How ever,, I do not like how the smart-update works, And seems to keep wanting to load the same update every day to the point I just hit ignore when it pops up. The other products from PC tools are good and also use most of them. And most important,, The Best Customer Service Ever...

Best Spyware Protection I have used

Pros: Excellent protection

Cons: Uses lots of memory, automatic updating could be better.

Review: I've cleaned up a lot of machines that have gotten trashed with spyware (usually my friends or co-workers). I've used Spy Sweeper in the past but feel that Spyware Doctor is a touch better. Definitely worth paying for. Does use about 55 megs of memory on startup but shouldn't be a problem on a machine with 512 or more.

Plan on getting to know Tech Support

Pros: There aren't any

Cons: Slow scans, many bugs, no fixes

Review: Both the Spyware and the Antivirus are slow to run. I have had to make several calls and trade numerous e-mails due to bugs in s/w. The fix always involves laborious procedures in safe mode, or uninstalling and downloading/installing new versions from start. these folks don't understand the meaning of the word "upgrade". I bought this product based on the CNET recommendation, have requested (unsucessfully) my money back.

Still waiting for support response

Pros: Product works very well

Cons: Still no response from support

Review: I've been waiting 2 weeks now for support to respond or acknowledge my request. The installed product is telling me the "subscription is invalid" and fails to smart update. Dont buy this thinking you can get support if something goes wrong, just pay and take your chances.

easy to use, competent product, I have been

Pros: easy to use, competent product, I have been

Cons: really not any to speak of except the price

Review: easy to use, competent product, I have been
it for more than 2 years and I find it to be trustworthy. I am really writing this to contradict a couple of user comments that are negative to this product. They Are Nuts!!! Only a week user would have bad things to say; sure the free version, like so many others is not a fully operable product, So I say, Break out the $30.00 and find out how it really works. After all, there is a money back guarantee. Also the support people are nice and very helpfull!!

Only Webroot spysweeper can match it

Pros: Rated 1st or second in removal

Cons: Update system dated

Review: Use any spyware tool and chances are Spyware Dr. will then find more to remove.

User Rating: 8/10

Spyware doctor caught many items the top products failed to, including Mcaffee.

Pros: Removes items thoroughly, and quickly.

Cons: Application load time is somewhat slow, and opens slightly offscreen.

Review: Spyware doctor caught many items the top products failed to, including Mcaffee. One prime example is a scan I performed on a clients laptop using Spybot, Adaware, Avaste, and Mcaffee (with the latest definition updates). After removing a series of bad items I returned the laptop only to hear more complaint. I utilized spyware doctor which found 75 additional items the others did not. Well worth the money, and since then I've cleaned many systems thoroughly.

Waste of time!!!!!

Pros: Absolutely none

Cons: Too many to list

Review: I've NEVER posted a comment online before; however, my INCREDIBLY HORRIBLE experience with Spyware Doctor has propelled me to do so for the first time! This software SHUT DOWN MY COMPUTER TWICE and ultimately removed nothing! Don't let the "Free Scan" fool you. Initially, it found all the adware/spyware that was harming my system, so of course I purchased it. BIG MISTAKE!! Lots of sizzle but absolutely no steak. Learn from other suckers like me: Don't waste your time.

User Rating: 2/10

The most annoying spyware program I've ever used!

Pros: Seems to take care of most problems

Cons: Can't get it to stop taking over IE & takes long to start up

Review: There are far better programs out there. The worst part about this is that it automatically wants to start up with IE and just freezes the screen until its ready to start up. 3 days ago I emailed the company about this and still have not had a reply (not even an acknowledgement). I would never buy this again and I should have went with a re-subscription of Trend Micro Anti Spy which I found to be an excellent program. I also do not like Webroot but at least it has a way to configure it not to take over your computer and start up when you want it to.

User Rating: 1/10

This is not a useful product, and is even dangerous to your system.

Pros: Spyware Doctor seems able to find some spy ware that Norton has overlooked. That in itself is a matter of opinion, but let's give them the benefit of the doubt.

Cons: The so-called Shareware test version is not. It downloads, gives you a long list of presumed spyware on your machine, but will not clean. To clean, you must pay them first.

Review: Spyware Doctor is not shareware. Nor does it offer a free once-around. Further, it infects your computer with constant promotions for itself, in your tray, across your screen, slows up your booting. It has placed unwanted ads and spyware of its own in a number of locations via its so-called shareware download. I will spend some effort, obviously to clean it out. Spyware Doctor is far to aggressive in promoting itself throughout your computer to be safe.

User Rating: 3/10

Use caution with this software.

Pros: The software found a lot of potential spyware.

Cons: Caused problems with windows xp

Review: Purchased a two user license and loaded the software on two computers. One computer began experiencing errors and would not boot normally. After uninstalling the software, this computer is operating normally.
The other computer began operating very slowly.
Software only had a temporary effect on sweepstakes.com IE hijacking.

User Rating: 9/10

Absolutely superior spyware detection and removal!

Pros: Extremely effective!!

Cons: Runs very slow (and I have a Pentium D @ 2.8 with 2GB of RAM)

Review: I originally ran Webroot's Spy Sweeper along with Adaware SE Personal but ended up getting a massive ad/spyware infestation (still not exactly sure how, but it may have been from installing a P2P program). Spyware Doctor is the only other program that consistently rated as high as Spy Sweeper so I got it to alleviate my problem (I was getting porn popups and popups for WinAntivirus and WinAntispyware which are notorious to get rid of).
Spyware Doctor was the only program that was able to rid me of the problem. In that respect, it is a superior program.
However, the interface is not as sleek and user-friendly as Spy Sweeper which is why I still use Spy Sweeper as my full-time guardian while using Spyware Doctor periodically to do full system scans. And despite me having a very fast computer, it runs slow. The average full system scan for me takes about an hour. Sometimes longer. Considering the most effective way to rid yourself of spyware is to run three consecutive scans in safe mode, this is obviously time-comsuming. That (plus the interface) is the only reason I didn't give it a perfect 10.

Worst of the worst

Pros: None don't waste your time

Cons: Poorly designed, want an arm and a leg to use it

Review: Don't waste your time with a trial version
deff don't pay for it if you want a great
program that works try Counter Spy, it works
very well and like AVG you can test it for
yourself..and decide, Spyware Doctor is
over rated and over priced for poor programing.

wowa good good good

Pros: easy to use

Cons: price sadly every good pro is so expensive

Review: I have never seen a pro like this, really it took my legs away when i saw how easy, fast n deeply it scans

The best I've used (so far)

Pros: Cleaned up our laptops at work better than the others.

Cons: Tends to slow down your PC when monitoring is enabled.

Review: We've tried Microsoft Defender, Lavasoft Ad-aware (professional), and Norton. Spyware Doctor is by far the BEST. All the other programs just wasted my time (and money). I noticed the other programs would remove the critical objects, but a few minutes later, they'd come back. Spyware Doctor completely cleaned up our Laptops.
I've installed Spyware doctor on about 6 Laptops at work (so far).

Editor's Choice???

Pros: Too angry to consider

Cons: Absolutely.

Review: I'm stunned that this app can win "Editor's Choice". I've been saddled with it for over a year. Licensed more than one copy for more than one system (both of which have been upgraded with fresh reinstallation of software... hence, this would not be an isolated incident). It is not clear to me why the process of spyware detection/removal has to take over ones computer... and life.

It's loaded with "functions" under OnGuard. I have had to systematically disable nearly every one due to conflicts with other software on my systems (see other post re: chkdsk as example). In fact, whenever there's a strange problem... apps not working, crashes, freezes, etc. the thing I do first is disable SpyWare Doctor. 99% of the time, the problem is solved.

Tech Support has had me disable their "features" one-by-one. One example is "Process Guard". I remember being told to add conflicting programs to its ignore list. That list became so long that I of course just disabled the "feature".

I try to tweak my systems for optimum performance for extensive multimedia use. But sometimes they will seem to grind to a crawl. Bring up Task Manager and 99% of the time, there's SpyWare Dr. churning away at the top of the CPU hog list.

Even the smallest of things can be a hair-pulling experience. I mean, is it absolutely necessary for it to throw up a large splash screen that WON'T GET OUT OF THE WAY so that you can use your other software? Being a hog, that splash screen seems to be up forever. Guess I'm just memory-challenged, but by the time the splash screen disappears, I've forgotten what I was going to do. Maybe I should start writing things on a piece of paper. Hmmm. Thought that's what my computer was for.

And after all this time you still cannot control/deactivate its sounds. This was acknowledged by their Tech Support and is quite important on my audio processing systems.

It's an "Editor's Choice" over at pcmag.com and maybe it's the same, but I thought I saw it here on C-net with an "Editor's Choice" designation. I could be wrong. But I do wonder why reviews don't seem to care about system, application and resource hogs and conflicts. This is an eye opener. I will certainly rely far less on "editor reviews" from now on. I'll look for other users' opinions.

poor spyware program

Pros: identified and got rid of spy ware

Cons: Slowed internet use

Review: Would not shut off when needed and the Spyware Doctor logo would not quickly leave so that I could view web pages.
Poor refund policy. One must submit a written affadavit with a number provided by the company. To date, no number has been provided.

Saved me a ton of trouble

Pros: Worked great for removing all the nasties.

Cons: Didn't remove registry problems from spyware

Review: This is a really great antispyware program but works best when you use the PCTools Registry Mechanic too. I had a ton of issues that Symantic and Lavasoft wasn't able to fix. Spyware Doctor and Registry Mechanic fixed it all. Haven't been using it long but it was worth every penny.

User Rating: 1/10

Sorry this didn't do it for me!

Pros: Did a thorough system scan

Cons: Wouldn't let me fix anything without purchasing and now I can't get rid of it!

Review: Buying the full version of this may well be worthwhile for all I know but the trial version is no use if it tells you you have loads of infected files but won't let you fix anything. I can't remove the program as its always on and just crashes 'add/remove programs' all the time. Don't bother unless you're prepared to pay for the full version right away.

User Rating: 8/10

Works for me.

Pros: I've never had a problem with it.

Cons: It doesn't get everything.

Review: Hey, what's with all the negative comments about this product? I use it with Windows XP (everything up to date) and have had none of the problems discussed elsewhere. I also use their Registry Mechanic for a one-two punch. The only criticism I have is that the product does not get every last bit of junk. But then, I also use Ad-aware Pro and Spybot: Search & Destroy and they miss things too. Once a week I run all three of them and consider my computer clean.

Product sucks worse than a black hole

Pros: Easy to use if you want to use it

Cons: gives false positives, won't let you use chkdsk

Review: This is a terrible product. I don't care what the experts say. They should read what the real users say before they rate something. That's you too CNET!!! Anything from PCTools seems to go to the top of the experts ratings. This is a nightmare and should be put on the rogue list of products NOT to use rather than recommend highly!!

accurate,easy to use interface

Pros: detects most of the spyware, adware, keyloggers

Cons: eats ram, pop ups asking for active protection

Review: No doubt it is one of the best antispyware in the market but it eats lot of memory. I tested it with commercial keyloggers and it removed them successfully. No fully functional trial version makes it hard to test it. I think it is expensive and pctools(parent company) is not so reliable. Support options limited.

OK, but stops you from checking or defragging your drives!

Pros: Very Aggressive at spyware removal

Cons: Misses some Data Miner cookies, Stops XP Utilities

Review: I installed this product many months ago not realizing it would disable my XP Drive property sheet utilities. Install it and try to do a chkdsk on C Drive with the option to fix errors. You reboot and no check of C drive is done. I emailed the company and they are still investigating but have a work around. Otherwise the product is pretty good

Easy to use, excellent performance, pricey

Pros: Removed spyware that were missed by MS Anti-spyware, Lavasoft Ad-Aware and Spybot

Cons: Free version identifies but does not remove spyware - that hardly qualifies as a free VERSION

Review: I finally got rid of malware that have been plaguing my PC for months - WinFixer and Apropos among the worst of them. Basically it found 203 infected items - this after I had run Ad-Aware, Spybot and MS Anti-spyware! My PC is basically back at peak performance after months of dragging, pop-ups, multiple IE windows etc. (I was having all these problems despite using all three of the other programs daily).
I also like that it blocks pop-ups and provides watch-dog functions far beyond that of the garden variety anti-spyware programs.
As the CNET review mentions, it is inexcusable that they advertise a "free" version that only identifies spyware but does not actually remove them. That one gripe aside, I am thrilled at having rid my PC of all that junk. Great job!

Depends on the OS

Pros: Great for XP

Cons: Not good for W98

Review: I was being plagued by problems with popups and trojan downloaders on my XP machine. I loaded SD and all the problems went away after three scans. The first scan appeared to lock up my computer, but in fact, SD had loaded and started the scan before my touchpad had loaded. So, to do anything, I had to ignore my touchpad and navigate using the pad buttons.

The first run got rid of my major problem, and subsequent runs removed more and more garbage from my computer.

I wish I could say that the program worked as well on my W98 computer, but each time I tried to load it, it froze the computer with no obvious way to get past the block. The computer ignored the 'three-finger salute' and any other attempts to get it past the SD load.

The support page for the product gives instructions on how to disable SD at startup, but you must get past the startup freeze to try it.

I was able to bypass the startup of SD buy constantly checking the windows 98 task list and stopping SD as soon as I found it. I then deleted the program and tried the install again with the same results.

So, my opinion is...

If you are using the program on a XP machine, then this product is great. If you are a 98 user, forget it.

Worst still, I could find no information on any website that could offer any help

I have been very satisfied.

Pros: Simple,Clean,quick,updates daily

Cons: Nothing significant

Review: I have ran spyware doctor 1 year now and have not ever had my computer lock up. It installed quickly. I have installed a secondary spyware program to check to see if it missed anything. It has missed 13 items in 1 year. Most importantly it does not absorb my time dealing with it. It runs in the background without slowing me down noticably.

Awful Support, Poor Product

Pros: Works in Safe Mode!

Cons: Freezes machine on start-up

Review: This product gets great reviews but when it was installed and started up, it froze my machine multiple times. I got it to work in Safe Mode but how useful is that? Support is pathetic. An email takes over 2 days to get a response and so basically, the troubleshooting can take a week to try a few things. A lot of room for improvement here.
