PestPatrol 4.2 aggressively scans your PC system for spyware, Trojan horses, and many other software pests. With its easy-to-use interface and extensive configuration options, PestPatrol is an excellent spyware-protection choice for home or office. The free demo version requires your full name and e-mail address and only shows you how PestPatrol performs its scans. To delete or quarantine files, you'll need to pay $39.95 for the registered version. For small businesses, reduced-price packages of 5 and 10 copies are also available. Installation is a breeze: After downloading the 5.6MB file, just provide your name and e-mail address, and with a single click, PestPatrol starts scanning your system. As with most antispyware programs, you can select the individual directories you want to scan or just scan your entire drive.

PestPatrol includes a sophisticated scheduling feature that lets you set up scans in advance so that you can, say, let your system scan while you sleep, and it has separate program modules that detect spyware cookies, scan for key loggers, and perform active scans for pests residing in your system's memory. The PestPatrol interface is easy to navigate and provides clear and useful information about the pests it finds, including links back to details available on PestPatrol's Web site.

Overall, PestPatrol's scans were faster than those of most of the antispyware applications we've seen. In our informal tests, PestPatrol identified an impressive list of problem programs, including Trojan horses, key loggers, worms, spyware, adware, DoS tools, ANSI bombs, sniffers, spoofers, and password crackers. This list is comparable to the wide varieties of maladies also found by Spybot Search and Destroy.

Fortunately, there's no shortage of help options with PestPatrol. However, the help file integrated into PestPatrol was not as friendly as some of the other programs we tried; it can be a little hard to find exactly what you're looking for, but if you try hard enough, you'll find that it's usually there. On the support Web site, PestPatrol offers e-mail technical support and extensive, searchable online FAQs.

PestPatrol's main interface looks a bit intimidating, but once you get the hang of it, it's easy to use.

Pros: I use it religiously and am very satisfied with this version...

Cons: It is very thourough and seems to use very little system resources.

Review: A definate MUST for anyones' system for Anti-spyware control. Actually prefer this version to Ver 5.0

Pros: Better Detection then its competition

Cons: None found yet.

Review: Microsoft was leading with its Microsoft Antispyware beta last year, but Pest Patrol has them beat!
I'm a computer consultant and 60% of my calls are spyware removal.
Pestpatrol is by far the best antispyware product out there at the moment.

Pros: Quick & easy to figure out. Many controls to fine-tune scans for your needs. Seems very thorough and the documentation about what exactly it's doing were very well explained.

Cons: Maybe a tad complex with all the control variables, but otherwise, none I can think of.

Pros: Feature rich, helpful user interface, and linked to excellent support information

Cons: Slows way down when used on heavily "pested" systems. I found the best results by doing a gross removal first via Control Panel and manual deletion of known pests like Wild Tangent

Incredible productby - August 28, 2003

Pros: Updated regularly, unlike competition (Ad-Aware) does not let new spyware get installed onto your machine, can detect keystroke loggers, can be configured to run in background and start automatically when windows starts up

PestPatrol rocks Part 2!by - January 27, 2003

Review: I was torn for a brief period after giving PP4.1 (the newest version) a rave review just last week as I ran into some technical glitches. However upon emailing the technical support staff late in the afternoon, I was shocked to get a reply later that evening on each of the two occassions I contacted them. Each reply was in response to my issue by a real person and not generated by some email 'key' word scanner that spits out some generic response that has nothing to do with the questions posed. In a nut shell PestPatrol acknowleged the glitch and advised me of when they had fixed it. Glitches happen to all software products and what sets PestPatrol apart was their response- I'm still shocked. And I still love the program. I'm ashamed at my own gushing but feel this was worth mentioning.

Didn't know what I was missingby - January 18, 2003

Review: I had been running LavaSoft Adware and removing the flagged files but when my ZoneAlarmPro started choking I knew there was a problem. ZA would freeze and log a ntdll.dll error every time I visted many newspaper websites, especially Canadian newspaper websites. Turns out despite having ZA's protection set to the higheste levels I had picked up some uber-cookies that would lock the true vector and shut it down when visiting the afore mentioned newspaper sites. PP4.1 removed 38 pest files right off the bat that LavaSoft Adware didn't even pick up. Revisited the same evil Canadian webpages and absolutely no problems anymore. A huge relief. Run the free version and see what is lurking on your computer despite your best efforts. Shocking.

Great software; Great support; Does the job and more ...by - January 13, 2003

Review: I once thought I was secure once I had an Anti-Virus product, and then I leard about port probs and the like, and so I got Zonealarm (excellent!). More recently a radio show made me aware of things like spyware and keyloggers. This came as a bit of a shock after having been very comfortable with my Virus Scanner (McAfee) and ZoneAlarm!!! Out I sent onto the net and after much searching I decided on the range of features provided by PestPatrol. It is, in my opinion, a feature rich product. Offline cookie, spyware,trojan, etc scanner. Online "real-time" cookie detector. Keylogger detector. Online memory checker. I have it installed now (Windows 2000 SP3) for about a month and have had no problems. There are regular updates, and everything seems to work very well. Finally there is a very enthusiastic user forum as part of support on PP's web site, and a dedicated and responsive support team. I recommend PestPatrol. There is an evaluation version downloadable, which is the same as the full version ni terms of scanning, but doesn't allow quartining or deletion of detected items.

Review: Your computer is an investment and PestPatrol is good insurance. On my computer it has detected spyware, adware, pests and annoyances that Norton does not even notice. I would rather avoid pest problems and have been very pleased with PestPatrol. Tech support and customer service are quick to respond and offer excellent help. Go ahead and try the free trial download! :)

Review: forget ad-aware, pestpatrol blows it away. it's tops for trojan protection also in a layperson's package as well as the computer professional. it continues to flag what competitors miss and offers more features than any other anti-trojan software. It's really ahead of the pack as a visionary product.

Review: Just updated to 4.1 and it picked up 10 more pests that were residing after 4.0 scans. Nice feature is it zaps as it detects pests. This is a indispensable tool as the average internet session will pick up spyware cookies via internet banking, and most anything else you log onto. I have had it for 2 months and eradicated 186 pests that I am glad I don't have onboard, and did not realize were there till I was introduced to PestPatrol.

Review: I had ad-aware, but they have not upgraded in months and the program is therefore ineffective because of new threats. And then I found this pest dispatching beauty that provides excellent tech support answering even my most naieve questions. Kazaa put a pest on my system via a virus and PEST PATROL ridded my system of that insideous cockroach.

Review: Nowdays there is no software that can be used to prevent all sorts of hack attacks. Pest patrol along with a good antivirus and a firewall seems to be the best combination available. It fills the gaps where the others fail. It is not a antivirus and certainly not a firewall. It does exactly what the vendor says. It protects from malicious scripts, keylogers spyware etc. Good job. It is a pitty however that people now need three different software running to achieve the maximum security possible.
