"Buyer Beware!!!"on by ozzyfan75
Pros Lifetime updates.
Cons Uses a fake antispyware engine. No explanation concerning the antivirus feature.
Summary You should think twice before you purchase SystemTech Antispyware with Antivirus. Did you know that the antispyware engine (Retina X Spyware Cleaner) is used in SystemTech Antispyware with Antivirus and is considered spyware or fake software? Take a look at these reviews.
Pros If I find one, I'll post it - but so far I paid $20.00 for an orange box with nothing of software that is functional - and this is on a clean install of Vista with no Security software.
Cons When you purchase security software - you expect at minimum (for an antivirus, a real-time scanner). Beyond that, the software has to update itself from the mfr's website for newer engines - no downloads to be found. Finally, no heuristic updates.
Summary Another review on this website mentioned that Summitsoftcorp's website mentioned that the antivirus realtime monitor won't run in Vista. Well here's what your project planners need to get you morons - "FIX IT!" Your box says this product works on Windows 2000, 2003, XP, and Vista. Beyond that, I wasn't able to find any links to update the software from summitsoftcorp's website. I'm going back to Avira free - I'm certain to have some protection!
Pros It has a lot of utilities.
However, I did not try them out.
Cons The automatic monitor will not work in Windows Vista.
Summary The product should warn you that the
automatic monitor will not work in
Windows Vista. It let me install and
run a system scan in Vista. However,
it would crash sometimes when I tried
to turn the automatic monitor on.
The manufacturer's website says that
the automatic monitor will not work in
Pros The Box says you can put it on five computers and not have to worry about paying new subscriptions for each year. Tech support issued a updated version within ONE business day. (Bought at Target, and part of the program said, "This was a demo only")
Cons Hard to find professional third party information on this product, such as a review from Noted anti-virus labs, etc.
Summary Ran the anti-spyware portion, it did detect a bug known as "coolwebsearch" This product's manual nor included advertising (of other Summitsoft products) included a mention of a firewall nor an e-mail portion of the product. I haven't tried the other included utilities.
Pros No subscription fees is a big plus... if you can trust that the software is really doing its job.
Cons User interface is very poorly laid out. You have to manually initiate things that should be automatic. Program contains many cosmetic errors that leave you wondering wonder what other, non-cosmetic, errors the program contains.
Summary When the program's creators do such a poor job on the user interface, it raises serious questions about how well the critical features of the program work. User interface contains grammatical errors. When you boot your computer, Windows gives you a warning message saying that "Anti-virus software may not be installed". You have to manually initiate virus and spyware scans. After doing a scan, the "date of last scan" doesn't change, leaving you wondering if the scan ran completely. Bottom line is that you don't know whether or not you can trust that this program has done what it claims to have done.
