"Caveat Emptor!"
Pros: Very fast and light on resources.
Cons: Does not recognize parts of the Windows OS
Summary: I was doing a repair install on my Windows system, and Vipre flagged Explorer.exe. I was not expecting explorer to be doing something, so I denied it. Vipre then took the extreme step of not just denying it this one time, it deleted it from my system. I then had to do a complete reinstall of Windows.

yeah i had the same problem happen to me. It deleted a system 32 file. Then my computer went into an infinite loggin loop. I fixed the problem 24 hours of work later >:0! However, this is great software and everyone should get it. Just be CAREFUL when delete vs. quarantine viruses and when allowing program access/denial. If you read the manual you'll be more than satisfied!

Great solution!! The possible reason for it flagging explorer.exe is when the "Active Protection" is set to "HIGH." I experimented with this setting and it is aggressive, and my explorer.exe was flagged as well. The "MEDIUM" is best and recommended, and is the default setting, so there is no worries. I haven't got any false flagging of anything important after I changed the setting back to "MEDIUM." The only reason to set it to "HIGH" is to scan a severally infected computer, other than that, you should leave it the way it installed itself. Vipre is a very efficient program and the best I have ever used, period! From free solutions to paid solutions, I have tried a lot in my spyware/virus PC cleanups and VIPRE is the BEST in removing ALL threats!!

I have been using Vipre for about 4 weeks now, it's installed on my 4 home pc. I've never ever withnessed it deleting the part of the OS file. in fact all the other antivirus software I used in the past destroyed my system. But vipre is the only one does not corrupt my Computers, I am very happy with vipre. i never go back or look for another antivirus software.

I use VIPRE every day and it would not have deleted the file from the system. The file should have been dumped into the active protection quarantine and could have been easily restored. Did you contact Sunbelt support or look through the VIPRE history to see what actually occured to the file?
VIPRE as a list of known good and bad applications... everything else is considered "unknown" and depending upon your security settings, it will allow, block, or prompt the user when an unknown application makes a system change.
Everytime Microsoft updates their programs and files, Sunbelt must update their list of known good applications and every now and again, you'll run into a version of explorer.exe or iexplore.exe that are not whitelisted. Therefore you can reduce your security setting to allow unknown applications or deal with incorrectly quarantined applications from time to time. -
This was the best comment of all. I'm a developer and I'm tired of Antivirus programs such as AVG and Trend being destructive to files. Trend even identifies some of its own files as Virus laden. AVG identifies most of my compiled ebooks as virus laden. Trend completely destroyed some of my files. Based on the review here, I will avoid Vipre.
