"My machines have come back to life!"
Pros: Fast, simple and dosn't get in my way.
Cons: Going to miss the other av products DOS'ng my machines.
Summary: I appreciate this av more and more every day. IT just removed the Symantec AV and replaced it with McAffe. I thought my laptop was unusable before. Boy was I mistaken. Who are the idiots that came up with the clever idea that simply slowing the computer down to the point of uselessness is the only way to prevent virus infections? It works. I won't use that laptop anymore. If I won't turn it on, it won't get infected! Thanks you very clever AV guys.
At home, I had used Norton, then Symantec products for a long while until I discovered F-Secure which was both faster and effective, though still not to my satisfaction. It was also cheaper. But after a few years, it too started to bog the systems that I use at home. It's licensing scheme worked much better than the Symantec products particularly as I was upgrading & changing my systems constantly over the years.
Now comes Vipre. I have used CounterSpy for many years. I had found it mildly intrusive over the competing AS products and very effective at doing what it was supposed to do as many of my friends and relatives have found out over the years. And now I have both AV and AS in the same package. I can barely tell that it is there, my systems run almost like they did when new. What a major joy it is to run my equipment at home. I can actually postpone some of my planned upgrades and actually get some work done now. At least until I have to go back to work and fight with the system that has McAffee on it. Arrgh!
I really want to give it a 10, but it remains to be seen how effective it is on AV. Should happen soon enough. Friends & family are continually hosing their systems & I hope to try it on those systems.
I was able to upgrade from CounterSpy for what I thought was a great price. I had an unlimited home license & upgraded to the unlimited home license for Vipre for a whopping $9.95. Try that Big Boys! But $49.95 doesn't seem to much either for the unlimited home edition if you didn't have CS. I think it could really use their Firewall included in the package to round it out, but maybe that is asking too much.
I think we have a keeper.
