"Didn't prevent our computer from being hijacked"
Pros: Easy to install. Easy to use. Doesn't clog your computer
Cons: Didn't prevent our computer from being hijacked on two occasions (trojans and adware)
Summary: I was very excited about VIPRE when I first found out about it and was very pleased for the first month that I had it. I switched to it from Symantec Professional only because Symantec was bogging down my system. I never had a virus problem with Symantec. I had the software set to update very 2 hours plus run a Deep Scan (as opposed to a Quick Scan) daily. Unfortunately, after about 6 weeks my computer contracted a trojan downloader and adware (problems with multiple pop-ups and it corrupted my Windows Update). I had to take my computer and have the entire thing wiped and Windows reinstall. I have had my computer back for 3 weeks now only to find that I have another problem (more trojans, adware, and hijackers). VIPRE picked up the problems on the computer and said that they were quarantined and removed but they keep reappearing. I am going to have to take my computer in again. Unfortunately VIPRE does not seem to be powerful enough to block the most recent trojans so they can't get on your computer in the first place and once they are there, it isn't capable of completely removing them. In case you are wondering, I do have a hardware firewall. I'm seriously considering putting Symantec back on my computer again because I never had a problem with it in terms of viruses.

Many viruses' sneak back in your system at startup. They reside on the system as read only and prevent ANY program from removing them. In many cases an AV program may remove or quarantine a virus, just to have it show up again after reboot. In these cases you need to go deeper than just a scheduled or manual scan to correct the situation. Each product has their own process, but they all include booting the system to a state that Windows is either not functional or partially functional to remove the embedded virus. The problem in your case is not Vipre, it's malicious people and their well written virus code.

I would suggest that you contact Sunbelt support. It is completely free and they are top notch. They will assist you with cleaning the machine and updating their definitions so that the problem does not occur again.
