Check Point ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 7 continues to innovate, this time dropping its longtime relationship with CA Antivirus and partnering instead with Kaspersky, makers of the award-winning Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6. Kaspersky, along with the award-winning MailFrontier Anti-Spam application, make ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 7 the only best-of-breed suite on the market and make it somewhat invincible against its competition. But security vendors have taken notice, in particular Symantec's Norton Internet Security 2007, which adds some very cool new cutting-edge technology to its latest release that we think may be a few years out of reach to be useful for most home users. None of the other Internet security suites we've reviewed can match the perfect balance of overall ease of use and security-product integration found within ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 7.

Setup
We downloaded the 32MB installation file and installed ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 7 without a hitch. After a reboot, we were asked a series of questions to help us set up the application. The first question is in regards to the ZoneAlarm program control security setting, which controls the number of message alerts you'll see on your desktop. A Maximum setting flags everything until ZoneAlarm "learns" which security settings you prefer; an Auto-Learn setting starts the learning process earlier by temporarily lowering the security settings, resulting in fewer messages; and finally, a Minimum setting protects you against older, known alerts but no new threats, resulting in virtually no alerts. The default is Auto-Learn, and we left it at that setting. Next, you're asked to participate in DefenseNet, ZoneAlarm's security threat center where new alerts are recorded anonymously; you can opt out, if you prefer. After that, you'll be asked whether you have antivirus protection and, if you don't, whether you want to enable protection within ZoneAlarm. For this, we say choose ZoneAlarm's protection--not only will you manage everything through the ZoneAlarm interface, but you'll receive state-of-the-art protection from Kaspersky Anti-Virus. Finally, the program will ask whether you want to scan your PC starting immediately. After these questions, you'll need to reboot once again.

Upon our second reboot, we were invited to view a 3-minute Flash tutorial on how to use the suite. Trend Micro Internet Security 2007 also offers a tutorial, but Trend Micro's is a static Web page. ZoneAlarm walks the new user through with a lively video.

Should you decide to uninstall, ZoneAlarm includes an uninstall icon in the All Programs listing--something McAfee and Norton do not. The uninstall process is smooth, first verifying that you want to do this, then disconnecting from the Zone Labs servers and removing the application. Upon reboot, we found absolutely no trace of ZoneAlarm--not in the registry, not in the system folders. We cannot say the same for McAfee, Norton, or Trend Micro.

Interface
The PR material says there's a new interface in ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 7, but all we saw was that the logo had changed, with the parent company, Check Point, much more prominent. Gone are the orange and red colors, replaced with a more sophisticated slate gray. ZoneAlarm's interface remains the high bar for design, at once communicating plenty of information without a lot of clutter or silly icons. Features are always visible along the left-hand navigation, and the right-hand window changes to display additional tabs of associated information. For example, under Program Control, there's an overview tab of security settings, a tab for individual program access, and a tab for component access. We like the ease of customization here, allowing us to allow, block, or ask with each program. Other firewalls make us jump through hoops or create complicated rule sets to tweak a given application.

Features
It's all here. ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 7 includes all the security tools you need to keep not only your desktop PC secure, but also your personal identity safe while surfing online. What's new is the partnership with Kaspersky, but also there's a new Auto-Learn system that helps users configure the firewall quicker, as well as a feature that configures security settings for applications that are already installed.

Unlike other suites we've reviewed, ZoneAlarm has fewer alerts for applications already running on our desktop. That's because Zone Labs maintains a rather large database of legitimate applications and compares the signature of what's on your system with those in its database. For the most part, ZoneAlarm only flagged unusual activity, which is what you want a good firewall to do. For example, ZoneAlarm notified us of a user who persistently attempted to scan our wireless laptop, then allowed us to block that user. Other firewalls we've reviewed only recorded these attempts in their logs.

Improved features within ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 7 include better antispyware protection and better protection of a user's real-world protection from identity theft. The antispyware protection is Zone Labs' own, not partnered content, and it continues to improve. The real-world identity theft program was announced with version 6.5, and it includes a real-time monitoring service that will help stop junk mail from being delivered to your home--one of the main ways identity theft occurs--and should you become a victim of identity theft, the program will help you navigate the process of reestablishing your true identity. ZoneAlarm, partnering with a company called Intersections, will monitor illegal use of your credit cards by checking shadowy black markets and Internet forums. If your personal information is found, you'll be notified and told what you can do to prevent fraud and abuse. We think ZoneAlarm's focus on identity theft in this version more than justifies the cost of the Pro version or suite.

Also, most vendors have opted out of including parental controls (or calling them such). ZoneAlarm includes a Parental Control feature in its left-hand column. While you don't have to have children in the house to want to filter Web sites and e-mail content, it's refreshing to see that ZoneAlarm continues to include it within its suite under a recognizable name.

But all is not yet perfect within ZoneAlarm. The program includes antiphishing protection, but we think it's a little unconventional. Instead of a toolbar that checks sites visited, ZoneAlarm maintains a list of trusted sites, some provided by ZoneAlarm and some custom sites you can add. The trusted sites tab can also tell you if the trusted site is transmitting your personal information via clear text. Other suites we've reviewed offer toolbars for Firefox and IE that checked the validity of the site before allowing access. Antiphishing technology is an emerging technology, and it'll be interesting to see what methodology becomes dominant in the coming year.

Missing from the ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 7 are features that back up and shred data files. Perhaps we'll see them in the next version.

Performance
For antivirus protection, ZoneAlarm partnered with Kaspersky. We did not specifically test the antivirus engine within ZoneAlarm, but is based on Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6, which scored well in CNET Labs' performance tests and scored exceptionally well in third-party, independent antivirus testing using live viruses. On our iTunes test, Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6 was first, with a fast 174 seconds, just 12 seconds above our test system. On our Sorensen Squeeze test, Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6 was second, with 256 seconds, just 15 seconds more than our test system. For scanning a single folder with files, Kaspersky came in the middle of the pack, requiring 160 seconds. And in boot speed, Kaspersky came in third, with a respectable 62 seconds. To find out how we test, see CNET Labs' How we test: software: antivirus page. In terms of protecting your PC, we cite results from two leading independent antivirus testing organizations. In the latest test results from AV-Comparatives.org, Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6 earned an Advanced + (highest) rating, catching 99 percent of all malware tested. And from CheckVir.com, Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6 was one of eight products to earn its Standard (or highest) rating.

Check back to read about our CNET Labs testing of the ZoneAlarm firewall and antispyware protection in the coming weeks.

Support
Included with the purchase of Check Point ZoneAlarm Internet Security 7 is one year of software updates and both e-mail- and keyword-based virtual support, along with access to a well-attended user forum. Purchase does not, however, include free telephone support. Only Trend Micro provides that. Support by phone from Check Point is available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT, Monday through Friday (excluding major holidays), but it costs a hefty $2.95 per minute--about the same as what McAfee and Symantec charge for their phone support.

ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 7 lacks printed documentation, but we found the new flash tutorial to be more informative than past efforts. The built-in help file is also excellent, thorough, and very specific, effectively balancing detail and clarity. And the ZoneAlarm online forums are active, with users worldwide eager and willing to answer your questions--something that Norton and McAfee don't offer.

Conclusion
ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 7 provides the perfect balance between best-of-breed security protection and ease of use, providing the home user with superior protection that's light on system resources, allowing you to work unencumbered.

Zone Alarm doesn't work with Vista

Pros: Works fine with Windows XP

Cons: Causes web browsers like Internet Explorer and Firefox to stop working

Review: "Zone Alarm" works fine so far for Windows XP, but not for Windows Vista. It causes Internet Explorer and FIrefox Web browsers to stop working unexpectedly to the point where one has to restart their computer. It's downright irritating!

If you are using Windows Vista and have Zone Alarm installed and have problems with your web browser, uninstall Zone Alarm and use a different Firewall instead or Windows Firewall.

Been using it for 5 years now!! Nothing comes close

Pros: Robust, Light on Resources, Highly Configurable .... etc. In short, ZA does it's job in silence and let's you do yours!!!!

Cons: Increases the boot time alot.
Not for the novice user.

Review: Its a robust product with a good balance of Security,Functionality and Ease of use.
Granted it has its drawbacks like any other product. Yet I believe the pros definitely outweighs the cons.

Not what it used to be!

Pros: The 15-day trial

Cons: BSOD, spontaneous reboots, major conflicts with Outlook on an Exchange server, errors provoked with video drivers included Pagefault in non paged area, driver corrupting kernel stack, etc etc etc.

Review: I was not happy with how much McAffee was bogging down my system so I decided to try ZAP, since it'd been a year or two since the original; company sold out and it turned into junk.
Wow, it's even worse than before on my XP Pro SP3 system. Sad to see it; I used to swear by Zone Alarm Pro.
How many times have we seen a good software product bought up by somebody who just wrecks it? Remember Drive Image and Partition Magic? Those bought up and killed by Norton. So it goes.

If you're all of a sudden getting spontaneous reboots, try deleting ZAP and see how it goes. You may have found your problem- but you may have to do a complete reformat and reinstall to make sure.

I had no problems with zonealarm....awesome product!!!!

Pros: Easy to install, use and uninstall! It has a getting to know your computer mode that moniters you and your routine and then adjust to your security needs.

Cons: the security warning pop-ups were a little bit irritating at times but not that big of problem. It doesn't really cost much different than other security suites but they are all too high priced in my opinion.

Review: The scan didnt freeze up any open pages or interupp my work like Norton. It was easy to install, understand, use, adjust, update, excellent security and clean uninstallation! Excellent spyware and anti virus program, I never had any problems with ZoneAlarm!! I am now using McAfee as its free with att internet and I DO NOT LIKE IT AT ALL! I will be going back to ZoneAlarm as soon as possible. (as I can afford it)

Used to be good, is now trash

Pros: Don't like it at all

Cons: Zone alarm got totally trashed by Leo Laporte and Steve Gibson.
It's not the same awesome firewall it used to be.
Check out the podcast 'Security Now' for this.

Review: Try Comodo or something else, just not ZoneAlarm!

Don't waste your money or time

Pros: It does create an icon on your desk top.

Cons: Antivirus would not update, manually or automatically. Checking user forum, discover it's a common problem. No solution posted, but why should you have to mess with it even if there is a fix?

Review: Doesn't update which means it doesn't work. Customer support is nonexistant. Chat didn't work; phone call didn't work; email returned. When I finally did get an email through, got a response to contact customer service. Probably the worst company I have ever purchased software from. How did CNET manage to make it a top pick? Whooo...who paid CNET how much?

Two year user agreement?

Pros: The program "learned" my computer and was set at the highest security setting possible, which resulted in fewer permission requests. Easy to navigate and obtain results from scans.

Cons: I purchased a 2 yr agreement product with a 12 month redownload. My comp needed had to have Vista completely reinstalled (HATE Vista) and I was unable to redownload ZA because I hit the 13th month. So, I paid for 2 years and got 1 year of service.

Review: I enjoyed working with this product over the years (different versions of course, but always Zonealarm). Now I am ready to move onto another antivirus.

An excellent upgrade to v7

Pros: Faster startup, lighter on resources and MUCH faster scanning times! It had a few bugs in the initial v8 release (long shutdowns) but they have been corrected.

Cons: Cookie blocker is a bit more aggressive than previous release but that isn't necessarily a bad thing!

Review: An outstanding update to an already superb security suite. Definitely worth the upgrade from version 7 now that the bugs are worked out. Top-notch antivirus and antispyware scanner and one of the best firewalls in the business - highly recommended!

User Rating: 3/10

Missed viruses and spyware

Pros: Was not a resource hog like Norton Systemworks

Cons: Missed anti-viruspro 2009 twice, loaded malwarebyte's anti-malware and it found over 60 infected files. Zone alarm found infected files after they had been installed (When I tried to look into them zone alarm flagged them; it allowed the install)

Review: Zone alarm used 100% cpu when I first installed it, I found out that it was having fits over some of my printer software (can't remember details, but this was almost a year ago). Once I debugged that the product was fairly inobtrusive. My computer was recently infected with antivirus pro 2009. Zone alarm missed it completely; it was allowed to install. I was able to clean it up and manually block the service and site. The virus changed and I was infected again a few weeks later. I buy this software so I don't have to deal with this crap; I'll be updating to another product soon. Not sure what yet; probably something mainstream like Norton ar Mcaffee.

ZA's TrueVector Internet Monitor can cause big problems

Pros: Works fine, when it works.

Cons: ZA's TrueVector Internet Monitor goes wonky frequently, and when it does it shuts down your internet access and can cause boot-up problems. The only fix is to uninstall (which can be problematic in itself) and do a clean install.

Review: Decent product but not for users who can't fix their own computers.

Been using security suite 4 years

Pros: The best package available 4 years ago. Very user friendly. Fast, convenient, runs in the background.

Cons: Starting about 6 months ago, that all changed. Slow, causes crashes, screen freezes. Updates are a pain. Program controls not working properly. Support by phone or online may or may not be helpful.

Review: Good company when they started. I don't know why they would mess with success. I've had them for 4 years. Looking for new security suite now.

A marriage gone bad

Pros: Excellent protection

Cons: Tremendous overhead

Review: I never put too much stock in user reviews. My take on them is you?re more likely to write a review when things go wrong then when things go right. Also, since I?m an ?IT guy?, those problems won?t happen to me. In this case, the nay-sayers are right.

ZoneAlarm & Kaspersky need to get a divorce.

Separately, they represent the finest in firewall and anti-virus protection respectfully. Together, packaged under the ZoneAlarm Internet Suite, they grind your system down to a halt. Whatever CheckPoint has done to get Kaspersky to work under ZoneAlarm?s umbrella obviously isn?t working.

I installed this product on numerous Vista & XP machines, all suffered the same problems: terrible performance and extended start-up and shut-down times. I then uninstalled the product and installed ZoneAlarm Pro (without anti-virus) and Kaspersky Anti-Virus separately. Both products are functioning beautifully and not dragging performance down one bit. Granted, this will cost a bit more, but I feel that it?s worth it getting world-class protection while maintaining good performance.

Useless Software

Pros: It protects your computer...

Cons: don't expect to be able to use your computer in any meaningful way unless you want to constantly disable your security suite (and then what good is it?)

Review: ZoneAlarm has a learn function which is supposed to study your browsing and usage habits and adapt itself to give you the best protection. That would be great if it actually worked, but ever since it implemented it's supposed learned protection, I can't get web sites to recognize what version of IE I'm using (annoying... every time I go to Yahoo, I get a generic page that tells me I need to upgrade to IE 7 or later... I've been using IE 7 for over a year now), flash video won't load (except for the occasional commercial most site put before news videos), and the number of 'page loaded but with errors' messages has skyrocketted. It's to the point that I have to disable Zone alarm to do anything! I've tried adding zones to the approved list, having ZoneAlarm study my habits longer, etc... No good what so ever. I'll soon be going back to either Norton or PCCillin... both were better than this pile of dross.

30 Minute computer shutdown and reboot

Pros: great firewall, decent anti virus.

Cons: Ever since the installation, the computer takes extended time to shut down.

Review: Overall, I have loved the ZoneAlarm product in the past. The Internet Security Suite worked great on my laptop when on business trips, giving me great protection when away from home. When it came time to renew this year, I figured why not pay the extra 10 dollars to add it to my desktop system running XP Pro. What a mistake that was. My computer takes upwards of 30 minutes to save the user settings and shut down Windows when I try to reboot or shut down the system. As great as the protection is, the support is horrible, virtually non-existent. Emails go unanswered and you cannot call without paying more, which to me is not acceptable. When I purchase a product, I expect it to be functional from the get-go at least, or to get uncharged for assistance in correcting issues with the product. I've used ZoneAlarm for years, I'm afraid that relationship is coming to an untimely end. I feel that the product is protecting me quite well. However, it is also creating a negative condition for my system.

User Rating: 5/10

Too much marketing / not enough development

Pros: The features that are offered are dependable and highly functional.

Cons: Instead of upgrading the existing product to meet changing needs, this manufacturer has chosen to compile upgrades and offer them in separate software packaging with a separate price tag.

Review: What was a good product with a good system of updates and support has been greatly diminished. Once again the customer base is sold out to the marketing department and I have to give Check Point a vote of no confidence. Unless you want to keep shelling out more money, find a more ethical vendor whose product will be updated to reflect changing needs.

User Rating: 6/10

Could use a little customer service

Pros: Less intrusive than than Norton A/V and a couple of others I've used over the years.
Virus protection seems exemplary while spyware is good at best.

Cons: Configuration can be labor intensive. Spyware misses a fair amount of tracking cookies. Had a problem after installing latest version and have not heard from Checkpoint's support after 4 days.

Review: I have used this product for nearly 3 years and am generally satisfied with its performance. I am disappointed in their unresponive tech support. Had to uninstall and re-install a couple of times to fix the issue.

Uninstall Process

Pros: See Bottom Line Summary

Cons: See Bottom Line Summary

Review: This is A good product for what it does. However, for some people the installation process can be a nightmare. Don't start with the flames because I myself know it's an easy uninstall. On the other hand some less experienced users I know tried to uninstall it after installing another AV product over it. It was a terrible mess that took me hours to fix for them. My bottom line is that it is a good product. Some of the amateurs I know don't agree but who cares right? They'll slip me a $20 next time I go and remove some easy spyware.

Dangerous to Windows XP Systems. My system was new

Pros: Zone Alarm Security Suite 7 seems to be a good product. You will be asked to upgrade to Version 8 soon after installation. Don't Do IT!

Cons: The software update will do the following: Startup time will be at least 4 minutes, performance sluggish, System Restore won't work anymore.

Review: Stay away from this product. ZoneLabs/Checkpoint has user forums on its web site, and a lot of users are reporting this problem. They haven't fixed it, and they are deleting the messages or hiding them elsewhere in order to hide the issue. This is a major problem.

Made to Perfection!

Pros: For pros, Scroll down to Summary.

Cons: None, Simply a perfect security program.

Review: An easy to use interface unlike avast and many other programs. Scans quickly and quietly, CPU stays outstandingly low. Updates when you like or automatically. Chooses settings by learning what you do and how many threats you will be getting. I just started using it and it found a virus unlike the other security programs I've used.
If you are loking for the best security program, I would definately reccommend this considering its effectiveness.

User Rating: 9/10

consistent

Pros: I have had no major issues with the program since 2006. Updates regularly, have gone through at least 2 engine updates since then and it loads much quicker than the PCcillin software i had before. I can't imagine having the problems that some have.

Cons: cant think of any...

Review: overall a top notch product. I cant help but think it is the lack of maintainence of the other parts of their PC. Don't know what all the complaining is about.

Great Suite, Retains Zone Alarm settings

Pros: While Kapersky is the best antivirus, the Kapersky suite slows evn my quad core 2 2gigDDR2 down to a crawl. The Zone Alarm suite doesn't slow down the PC and sill takes advantage of the great antivirus elements available in the Kapersky module.

Cons: Antivirus and Spyware do not have the flexibility as far as options go. I can live with it but would prefere a little more control.

Review: After running a PC shop for 10 years, I've found that The Zone Alarm Security Suite offers the best compromise, reasonable coverage without to much overhead. Trend Micro used to have a reasonable suite but their support has been horrible as of late.

User Rating: 9/10

Excellent Product, especially for the price

Pros: Comprehensive, Flexible, Works

Cons: Previous version was slow, but an update 6 months ago sped things back up to normal

Review: I bought 3 licenses for about $80 and it was a great deal. I can configure the firewall and AV to do what I want. The first 4 months or so that I had it, it slowed down my browser somewhat. Then they fixed it with one of the updates (about 6 months ago) and since then I can surf blazing fast again, but with the peace of mind that I have a top of the line AV and firewall running.

Maddening experience!

Pros: When it works - Great!

Cons: It don;t work for long before scr#@ing the pooch!

Review: I have been a ZA customer since I bought my first laptop back in 1992 - wouldn't even consider another. Not any more. I started having incredible system slowdown issues to the point that both my laptop, and my desktop were unusable. I finally narrowed the problems down to ZA ver. 7. After complete uninstalls, as per the ZA forums, I had to reload Windows. I did this five times on my current laptop. I just installed a new HD on my desktop only to have the current version of ZA do the same thing. I'm currently using Windows firewall until I can find a suitible substitute. The sad thing is that all of the major magazines give this current mess a stellar review.

User Rating: 9/10

Excellent!!

Pros: Ease of install and setup.

Cons: It's not free!

Review: I don't understand the negative reviews here for this product. I've used zonealarm for seven years and never had any problems other than the VISTA compatibilty issues when VISTA was first released. That was cured by the update (and later i just ditched VISTA for XP).I've installed zonealarm on ten pc's and several laptops and never had any useability prolems. The bad reviewers must be experiencing owner/operator problems with the PC's themselves (learn before you burn).

User Rating: 2/10

Terrible product

Pros: Used to be a good firewall solution

Cons: VSDATANT.SYS, ZA user forum

Review: This could be lengthy so I hope that you all have a moment to spare. First I was having issues with consistent BSODS and restarts with Windows XP Home SP3 which would happen at random. I went through every troubleshooting technique I could muster including device driver updates, BIOS updates, memtests, reformats, reinstallations, reseating heatsinks, and the list goes on and on.

Finally with the help of Microsoft's debugging tools I was able to see that the file VSDATANT.SYS was the problem. Uninstalled ZA Pro 7.0 and problems have gone away, apparently this poorly written program was the cause of all my troubles from day 1.

Then in an effort to tell the people at Check Point my woes at the ZA forum instead of coming up with solutions they deleted my post. So it appears that they:

1. Dont care
2. Are afraid of constructively placed negative comments.

So in summary buyer beware....Use the free version but for heavens sake do not purchase as I did...

Effective, Cooperative, Friendly, Informative Progam

Pros: It doesn't turn the (sub)title bar red or give you an "!" next to virus/spyware protection if you have Auto Updates turned off. That was the worst thing I hated about Norton.

Cons: The trial is only 15 days. 30 would be more reasonable.

Review: Unlike Norton, I haven't seen any viruses get through. Also when there is an alert, it gives you an understandable explanation of what's going on and gives you the option to launch a ZoneAlarm webpage if there's not enough info on the Alert popup. Those webpages are SO helpful, describing exactly the situation you're encountering, like ZA is init with you. I've never gotten this from Norton.

Good price at $40 for both a Firewall and full Antivirus plus Spyware protection.

The system tray icon changes to a moving bar graph when it's scanning so that you know why things aren't happening immediately.

In the main window it shows horizontal activity indicators for download and upload traffic, something I've not seen in Norton but a comfort to know ZAISS7 is monitoring it all.

The user interface is very friendly and not overly complicated, though there are plenty of options.

I've never had a problem with e-mail before I got this product, so after trying it, I turned that and IM protection off since I don't usually IM. I didn't like the toolbar it installed in OE. I was amazed it actually removed it when I turned e-mail protection off! The sign of a good program that doesn't force itself on you!

There were no incessant reminders my update service is about to expire, unlike Norton. I can see that information for myself clearly displayed in the Overview pane.

Unlike Panda, it works on my Windows XP SP1 OS. I recommend this to everyone with the min. sys. req. who is willing to use this exclusively for firewall/antivirus/antispyware safety.

I also like the Help screen that pops up when I click on it in a certain window of the program. It opens to the exact topic for the category I was in, service I haven't gotten so well elsewhere.

You do have to schedule scans at least monthly or it will flag you for that. Pretty stupid: If it's protecting me, then it shouldn't be very likely that something slipped onto my PC such that I should need a scan every month. This is fairly insignificant, though.

Updates leave you clueless as to specifically what it's doing for the two minutes it's downloading and installing the updates. It does tell you generally, but I begin to wonder if it's OK when the progress bar is usually empty or showing no progress.

It does slow down my PC at startup to load itself, but not too much. Usually I keep my PC asleep when not in use so there's no bootup. Likewise, programs are delayed in launching slightly while ZAISS7 does its "on-access scanning", but it's not a major inconvenience. I just wish you could create a list of programs to exempt from on-access scanning.

Firewall seems good. I don't use privacy or ID theft. I will buy it when my trial ends in the next 2 days.

VISTA USERS RUN AWAY

Pros: Anti Virus and Firewall

Cons: Stripped down version for VISTA users

Review: What a HUGE ripoff! I've used ZA for many years and when I purchase a new system with VISTA, I proceeed to download the ZA suite designed for VISTA. Well, what they don't tell you is that they have GUTTED and STRIPPED features out of this version.
Cache Cleaner is GONE!
Parental Controls are GONE!
Anti-Phishing is GONE!
IM Security is GONE!

...and now a very long time customer (me) is GONE!

Abysmal? No way! 10 year user. NEVER LET ME DOWN. 100% stealth.

Pros: 100% stealth (High ratings from Shields Up). Total program control.

Cons: A little too technical for some. But, the good stuff always is.

Review: Every year I shop, compare, read reviews and check prices. I have yet to find a better, more versatile product

DON'T EVEN TOUCH THIS!!!

Pros: Inexpensive and easy to load

Cons: Conflicts with many other programs

Review: I tried ZoneAlarm for a year and a half because I wasn't smart enough to give up after a year. I had ZoneAlarm Security Suite on nine computers and a server, but I spent well over $1,000 in IT costs to resolve conflicts and issues it created throughout my system. Of the tens of thousands of dollars I've spent on software over the past five years, ZoneAlarm is easily the worst product I've dealt with. I'm kicking myself for having tried it. Oh, and by the way, tech support is a joke, and customer service laughed in my ear when I requested a refund. There are way too many other programs out there that will do the job without risking your businesses success to a package as awful as ZoneAlarm Security Suite. Good luck!

Simply the best out there

Pros: Outstanding protection, doesn't slow me down, updates smoothly

Cons: Had an issue with it locking my internet connection, but has been fixed.

Review: I have had a few different security suites, including Norton, and ZoneAlarm is clearly the best. My computer got so messed up with Norton, I had to completely replace my hard-drive (thank-goodness is was in warranty). I have had ZoneAlarm for almost 2 years on 3 computers, and it works great. I haven't had any infections or malware problems, and it runs smoothly, even on my ancient 256mb ram laptop. Just go with it; you won't find a better suite with a better AV engine, firewall, and anti-spyware anywhere.

Is this the beta or something?

Pros: Seems to do what it's advertised to do, but things do slip through, and they show up in the scan. Why do they slip through if ZA knows about them?

Cons: I've had more trouble since upgrading (full edition) than I ever had before.

Review: Outgoing mail checker automatically sends a "don't mess with me" message to all incoming senders. I had to turn that off. I can't even remember all the problems I've had, they were so traumatic. The latest is that something keeps me from getting to stuff on the Internet even though my connection is good. I have to turn off the whole suite to get through because I don't know what part of it is blocking me, since it only happens sporadically. Sometimes I forget to turn it back on, and I'm left unprotected. I hate that you have to pay for help when they're the ones who made it so buggy. You can actually get free tech help from customer service but they don't tell you that. I think their dashboard interface is unprofessional looking. When I get warnings about whether to let some company or software access my computer, there's no info to inform me as to what's coming in. I HATE that ZA "scans" my computer at random times, eating up all the processor, and I can't stop it even though I'm logged on as administrator. I don't know what it's scanning -- not the whole disk, because it only lasts a minute or two. The file is updchk.exe. Now I see I have some other process running called dpupdchk.exe. Thanks to Microsoft I have no idea what that's for. Also there's something annoying about ZA scanning for updates -- I forget what, probably more processor hogging -- so I turned that to manual. I'd LIKE to be able to let it go take a peek at the ZA site & ask me if I want to update.

Updated on Jul 30, 2008

IE freezes up & I can't figure out why. I'm also having this problem, don't know whether it's due to ZA or not: I think it's only been happening since I upgraded to 7. Sometimes when I'm typing, the whole keyboard changes the configuration of the alphabet. Sometimes just shutting off the program fixes it (it happens in IE, OE, and Word, at least), sometimes I have to turn off the computer and it takes FOREVER to boot up.

Absolutely superb

Pros: Includes great features and is very light

Cons: Install takes a bit too long

Review: This is a very good suite and is well suited forboth business and home use, much better than the competition and supreme antivirus means that this is likely if not certain to stop threats infecting your PC

it's simply beats out the expensive and "award winning?" AVs.

Pros: has the strongest firewall keeping those malware out of your system

Cons: nothing in particular , maybe it's interface.

Review: It's the best Package. Unlike norton aka. Resource Hog, this is light on system resources. scans files automatically . In my case I've got 1000 intrusions 512 of those are high rated. Unlike in norton, bit defender, microsoft one care, pc tools antivirus, threat fire, avira, kaspersky, avg only detected 1/4 of the detections that Zone Alarm does. especially the 2008 edition of it. Mcafee however, is the second of the best av's because of its natural detecting power..

*threatfire, norton, pctool's antivirus and applications, AND KASPERSKY are resouce hogs. they will slow down ur PC by 75%. I tried them all norton internt sec, 360 , kas. internet sec. ALL of them. and Zone alarm is the only one!

Not for Dial-Up Users

Pros: The product does what the advertisements say. The automatic updating works well even on a dial up system.

Cons: I have had problems with my system slowing down over time since I installed the product. This is a large volume application on drives. It does not play well with some ISP software also.

Review: Zone Labs has gone the way of most software vendors...high speed internet users only. Right out of the box I had to download a 71.2 MB update (try this on a dial-up modem). When asked, they told me to 'Hook your computer to a friend's high speed line." This is NOT a product for dial-up users...period!

Pros: Easy to install/interface/cost +++

Cons: Haven't found one yet

Review: I love Norton, used it for years but their latest download 360 was nothing but trouble (they were great w/refund). Don't like Mcafee so happened upon ZoneAlarm and am so glad I tried it. I am not a techie and my computer knowledge is limited but all the more reason I love this software!

'Light on system resources?' LOL REALLY??!!

Pros: Above-average virus/spyware protection

Cons: (1) Major memory hog (2) Firewall quirks force occasional reconfiguration or reboot

Review: I purchased ZoneAlarm v7 after reading such glowing reviews, but after several months of use, I've had it. I'm ready to look elsewhere for my PC security needs.

I cannot accept a security suite -- no matter how effective it may be -- that completely freezes my laptop whenever it is scanning or downloading the latest virus definitions. Scanning can take an hour or more; updates can take 10-15 minutes. During these times, memory usage can easily exceed 120,000k.

Even "at rest" -- with live monitoring in background and no active scan or updating process -- the program still hogs an unbelievable 80,000k or more.

Following an introductory break-in period, when a higher security level kicks-in, the firewall will drive you nuts. At least a couple times/day I find myself having to manually reconfigure complicated access permissions in order to access a given Web site -- even sites that I visit routinely every day and which I use for my business. About once/week, the firewall responds to no amount of reconfiguring -- the only way to access certain sites then is to restart the computer. That usually seems to correct whatever is causing the firewall to block access.

I'm generally regarded as a highly patient individual...but this program is one that has tested -- and broken -- my patience one too many times. Good riddance...am finally looking at other options.

Let me down when it mattered

Pros: Apperently the firewall is good

Cons: Clunky, ineffective antivirus

Review: When my machine would hang until I connected it to the internet, I figured something may be wrong. Numerous scans with this product revealed nothing of concern, so I scanned my installation discs and found nothing there either. I'm glad I installed a trial version of Norton Antivirus and it found and removed the trojans that ZA didn't, and on my discs too. Since then I've found Avira Antivirus to pick up Trojans that even Norton doesn't, and it's free.

THE WORST EVER

Pros: they will soon go out of business I hope

Cons: TOO MANY TO LIST

Review: I bought this today, not only after installation did it frreze & lock my computer, but then I find out the tech support is only if you pay by the minute like a phone sex line...while finally uninstalling this "program" it killed my maxtor external TB hardrive costing me the 300 gigs of music I had saved over the last several years

I CAN NOT SAY HARD ENOUGH....DO NOT USE THIS !!!!
not only is their product bad, but you have to pay to call & tell them so

A huge disappointment...look elsewhere for your protection!

Pros: Easy to install/uninstall and use..like the antispam

Cons: Initially not Vista compatible...easily corrupted

Review: I really liked this program initially, but it has been corrupted on all 3 of the computers on which it was installed (1 laptop and 2 desktops) and it only took 4 months for hackers to do it. Luckily, the computers were not irreparably damaged. Looking to get Norton now...ZA was a huge waste of $50!

Avoid It Like A Plague If You Have Windows Vista

Pros: Simple Interface

Cons: Out-of-the-Box Software Full of Windows Vista Bugs

Review: Windows Vista users beware! Zone Alarm suddenly has lots of bugs when you try to install it.

I ditched the terrible Norton 360° for Zone Alarm by Check Point. I thought Zone Alarm is a better firewall and gave more superior online protection.

Boy, was I wrong!

Firstly, the moment I did my first installation in my laptop, it is beset with "driver incompatibility" issues. The operating system kept on popping up dialogue boxes on this problem and the program failed to open.

I did an online check on the problem and only found a partial solution from a forum of dedicated Zone Alarm users and NOT from Check Point, the creators of Zone Alarm!! Nothing on the driver problem was found at Zone Alarm's website.

When I installed the patch, the program was installed but the "Update" function was greyed out. I gave up after countless fruitless uninstalls and reinstallations.

Finally, I took it back to the shop that sold it and insisted for my money back. The technician was also baffled and surprisingly, took care of the problem after finding a solution from a forum. (Note: Zone Alarm's website gave not solution of the problem. Hence, it shows its poor after-sales service).

I am dumbfounded why Check Point did not fix the problem before shipping it to the stores.

I used Norton 360° and it worked immediately after installation. For this heartache and unnecessary problems, I am abandoning Zone Alarm as soon as the 2-year licence expires.

I will not recommend it to anyone. Who in his/her right mind will pay good money for something that does not install properly once it is out of the box?

Pros: seemed to work when it worked

Cons: can't trust it if it just disappears from the computer...abandons it's post

Review: Who knows how long it was off each time. And support by email the next day offered that i should uninstall and reinstall, not responding to the fact that it wasn't even in my Program list to do that with. It had completely disappeared from my computer. How can I trust such a thing? I just abandoned the rest of my year and bought a Norton program.

Outstanding

Pros: My prefered firewall and preffered

Cons: My preferred firewall (ZoneAlarm) and preferred antivirus (Kaspersky) in one package!

Review: I have used ZoneAlarm and Kaspersky as separate products for as long as I can remember using firewalls and antivirus products. I have never given anything a TEN rating, but because this suite incorporates two packages that I believe to be the best, and that I would normally buy separately, it is as close as I have ever come. I have been running this for over a month on a brand new HP desktop PC with Intel Dual Core Processor and 32 bit Vista Premium. Zero problems. I have recommended and will continue to recommend to friends and family.

Update doesn't -- Remove/Reinstall Required

Pros: Beauty is only skin deep.

Cons: Should not be released from Guru control; not built for common release.

Review: I have used ZAFree for several years on Win95 and WinME, and never had any problem. Getting a new PC with WinXP late last year, I also bought ZASS, as I knew nothing of the problems I would find with it. I'm just a home user; email, web, blogs, some apps for personal use -- no power user here. I have had several apps, including ZAFree, that notified me of Updates that all successfully completed over the years. This ZASS one died.

Normal upgrades go over that which is already installed. Going to ZA's Forum and scanning the Installs, the upshot is Deinstall/Reboot/New Install. Major problem with that is you have to redo all the settings you hopefully retained from the initial installation and running parameters.

Last week I got a note-window for an update to their newest level, and after closing out the few apps I had going I kicked it off from their window. My 'update' got hung at their VSMON, and I was locked up. Reboots failed to allow it, then I tried a roll-back to my System Restore Point of March -- and got a BLACK SCREEN of WinXP failing to load. Having to reload/rebuild WinXP from the ground up should never have been put on my dance card -- be sure I won't allow them a second opportunity!

Disappointed

Pros: There are none

Cons: Too many problems

Review: I had used Zone Alarm firewall before and was pleased with its effectiveness and ease of use. Unfortunately, the Security Suite has proven to be nothing but an endless problem. It worked fine for a month or two, but since then I have had to repeatedly uninstall and reinstall. I am not sure if it is the security suite itself or Windows XP (which, BTW I am totally disenchanted with), that causes the problems, all I can tell you is Security Suite just doesn't work. It has been useless against spyware. It will find spyware and quarantine it, but it does nothing to prevent spyware from getting on my computer. More often than not I have to reboot my computer at least twice in order for Security Suite to load. When my current subscription runs out (in July) I will purchase another firewall system.

Hangs up computer Win XP Home - Bad Product

Pros: Used to be a good product.

Cons: VSMON.EXE uses all CPU time so nothing else runs, happens again and again, user forum has many suggestions, none fixed the problem.

Review: In my search for a fire & antivirus combo product, I bought this suite. I had used Zone Alarm several years ago, and while it is too complicated for some I liked that I got so much choice to say what had permission to do what on my computer. Some of the updates in the newer version was great - tells you if a program was monitoring key strokes/mouse movements, etc. However I had problems installing it, the computer hung and had to reboot then zone alarm would not install. Several calls (too many in my opinion) got the problem finally fixed (they sent me different download software as the typical stuff had some problems). I did get a supervisor call returned several days later - nice as often these never come.
But after the first week or two I had problems with VSMON.EXE using up all the CPU space. Everything would halt and be unusable for 5-10 minutes. Unacceptable. This would happen often. I searched the user forum, found problems related to the email antivirus features and turned off all of these (but I bought it to do antivirus not just firewall, so now I no longer had this feature). The problem was less, but still happened regularly, several times a day. Opening up windows task manager (cntl alt delete) would un-hang the other programs, but this became a joke as I would open this several to many times an hour just to work. Then today that didn't help, the entire computer hung, and I had to take down all the programs (via task manager) to recover. I have given up, this product is not usable. Don't waste your time and money getting it. I am going back to a separate fire wall and antivirus.
Note: I use some extra programs on my computer but they are common like office suite, quick books, fire fox, etc. I often have several programs running at the same time but this is an office / personal computer, it is not stressed with heavy program usage at all.

Works Great

Pros: Fast, elegant, and thorough, better than Norton and McAfee

Cons: None really...

Review: I keep reading peoples reviews about ZA 7, and I can't help but scratch my head and wonder exactly what it was they could have done wrong. I've been using ZA for about 2 years now, and have yet to have a problem with it. It works faster than norton, and is more thorough than McAfee, only other antivirus besides ZA I would use would be Kaspersky, so If you had a problem with ZA, give Kaspersky a try.

User Rating: 9/10

Great Value! ZoneAlarm uses high rated Kaspersky AV

Pros: AV + Firewall + AS at a great price = Value. Checkpoint's rep and history.

Cons: High rated Kaspersky AV does seem to scan slower than what ZoneAlarm had in the past, but independent testing rates the Kaspersky that ZoneAlarm well.

Review: Checkpoint ZoneAlarm works well for me now and in the past. I was having trouble getting it to recognize new 7.0 key on upgrade from 6.5. I then first did an uninstall of 6.5, prior to a clean install of 7.0, which worked smoothly on XP consulting laptop. I recommend you download new 7.0 (2008) from website and uninstall old ZA and then install new ZA.
Antispyware scans quick and seems to work well. Software firewall same high rated one I have used for awhile.
I am running McAfee on my home quad Vista workstation and older XP P4C, and like it as well, so perhaps I am easy to please.
In the past, both have served well, protected completely - I have had no security issues to speak of. I have always also ran additional software in the past like AdAware, Spybot S&D and Spyware Blaster, and notice that the first two especially will sometimes catch tracking cookies and perhaps other bad fish before AV will.
I also tend to run Windows Defender when it squawks and keep updates current. New Security Suites I am running this year make piecewise approach I have done in the past seem an anachronism, but even good old habits die hard.

User Rating: 9/10

I have nothing negative to say about this product.

Pros: Offers powerful antivirus protection, very low memory usage, and an informative and feature-rich interface.

Cons: Scans can take awhile...

Review: Its unfortunate that so many people are having trouble with this impressive suite. I am running Vista Home Premium 32bit, dual core 1.8Ghz Turion, and 2Gigs RAM. This was the first program I installed after a reinstallation of Windows, and I am using it in conjunction with Spybot and Ad-Aware (free version). In the past six months I have tried Norton's Suite, Kaspersky, Bit Defender, and Avast, and none of them have compared

First I am amazed by how little resources this scanner is using. Even while performing a full system scan it is using a fraction of the resources that are used by any of the above resident scanners. I had issues with all of the above AV's bogging down my system. Right now I have seven tabs open in IE7, a Windows Explorer window open, Windows Media Player is running, Utorrent is running, Windows Live Mail is installing, WL Messenger is running, Sidebar is open, Aero is enabled, ZA7 is running a full system scan, and I'm only at 60% resources.

The installation was clean and easy. I started off with Auto-Learn, but quickly realized that I had to enable Advanced Program Control and Application Interaction Control to get the connection restrictions lifted for certain programs. I would recommend starting off with Maximum security. Its worth a day's worth of alerts just to populate your white list.

I'm very pleased that ZA7 is utilizing Kaspersky's AV engine. From my experience, there is absolutely no competition for it, nothing I have used has been as effective.

The interface is really spectacular. I have never used a suite that offered so many customizations coherently, or that offered so much information regarding its activities.

A one year license for 3 computers was purchased at a very reasonable price. The other two are running XP SP2, and neither have ever had any issues. I feel fortunate that I am able to take advantage of this outstanding all-in-one suite.

Good, not great.

Pros: Terrific anti-virus and firewall

Cons: takes some getting used to

Review: It does what I want which is protect my comp. But it can be a bit of a pain with the built in learning system. It tried to block to many things after it went through a learning cycle (about 3 weeks). I reset the cycle, and its working much better now.

Not as bad a resource hog as others, but still seems like a lot int he background.

Had it about 4 months. No other complaints.

Good performance, frugal on resources

Pros: Great firewall with Khaspersky antivirus

Cons: Firefox ad-blocking works better alone

Review: I've used Zonealarm for quite a few years, now. I have had no breaches in security, and very few problems with the various applications that make up the security program. I've run ZA Internet Security Suite on a number Win2k and WinXP machines and it allows me to cruise and use my network without a hitch. It uses up very little of my resources, but with the newest two computers being Core2 Duo machines with 3 gigs of RAM, it's not an issue anymore, like it once was. If you have three or fewer computers, be sure to use the subscription that allows three computers for one price... it's the cheapest way for non-business folks to secure their computers.
By the way, I purchase about $3000 to $5000 worth of goods and services over the Internet every year, so security is my utmost concern.

A love-hate relationship

Pros: Lower overhead than Norton or McAffee, Nice user interface

Cons: Far too many warnings, does not always play well with Vista.

Review: I went with CNET's recommendation after burning bridges with Symantec and its line of Norton Internet security products. I also was thoroughly unimpressed with a 30-day trial I had with McAfee. My review is a Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde overview of my experiences since going with Zone Alarm on two computers.

My initial experience with Zone Alarm was fantastic! I loaded it onto my HP desktop computer (Windows XP) and immediately noticed improved system speed compared to what was going on with Norton installed. I silently thanked CNET and thought I'd never switch to another anti-virus or Internet-security product. Now, I'm having second thoughts.

I purchased a new HP notebook, with killer hardware specs that I figured would handle any application I threw at it. Much to my frustration, Zone Alarm has not done well with Windows Vista, although it has improved. If choosing to have Z.A. automatically update it's virus/spyware definitions, as recommended, I found Zone Alarm on my Vista notebook to be updating at least once an hour. While this in itself was not the problem, it was a problem big-time when my system performance was sometimes getting bogged down to a crawl while Zone Alarm updated in the background. Interestingly, the exact same copy of Zone Alarm on my Windows XP desktop PC is set to automatically update, but does so only once a day and never drags down computer performance. With the Vista notebook, I've simply turned off auto-updating and update manually once or twice a day -- and things again are running well. I can deal with that.

I feel my rating of 5 is fair, in that the software has indeed performed its primary task -- keeping both my computers virus-free and spyware-free. The annoying warning pop-ups and co-existence with Vista dragged down what would otherwise have been a good rating. I will see how the software is running when it comes time to renew my license, but at this time all options are on the table.

overall a very good product

Pros: Pretty simple to set up and get running, protects all your online software even email and IM.

Cons: Slow Start-up speed.

Review: I will give up the slow start up for the feeling I get from ZoneAlarm. Been running McAfee for 2 years and started getting Adware and Spyware hits. ZoneAlarm was easy to install and took care of the problem.

Had an issue with the Product Key, but e-mailed zonealarm and had an answer the next day, problem solved.

Very Happy with customer service and product.

WORTHLESS WITHOUT SUPPORT!!!

Pros: Not sure what's wrong.

Cons: $2.99 PER MINUTE FOR SUPPORT!???

Review: Is anyone else tired of being held hostage by companies for tech support? ZA is guilty of this. They have no chat support and their insant support is crap! Terrible product

Pros: Seems to perform the security function well

Cons: Slows computer response to an unacceptable level

Switched from Norton to ZoneAlarm - no issues

Pros: Clean install; no issues whatsoever; found questionable stuff that my previous AV scanner missed

Cons: Requires a few "training responses" which were not always obvious as to what should be chosen

Review: I did my research, largely on CNET.com, and was initially terrified by all the talk of doom; I decided to listen to the positive and am glad I did. The chap who said use 70.462 not 70.337 was my deciding factor. I'm glad I made the jump. After removing Norton AntiVirus (2 steps - 1st from add/remove programs, then used the Norton uninstaller from Norton website), the new ZoneAlarm installed very smoothly on BOTH Windows XP Home, and Windows 2000 Professional machines.Initial scan was quite long, but I feel this is a reasonable up front investment. On one machine, found at least 2 objects that had been on my machine for months which Norton missed. Also found 6 trojans that none of my other spyware scanners found.
My smallest machine was 1GHz with 1 GB RAM. It appears to be less of a resource hog than my previous AV software.
I am very pleased thus far.

Not for Vista

Pros: Clean installation; intuitive interface; good suite of features.

Cons: Ver. 7.1 (Vista): bugs in automatic virus/spyware definition updates; very slow shutdown (15-20 minutes).

Review: The interface is not as aesthetically sophisticated as, say, Norton, but past experience with slow system performance when running Norton led me to try ZA. Mostly OK, but in automatic update mode it seems to be continually trying to run the definitions updater, a problem discussed in the ZA user forum. Also noted is a terrible slow-down in system shutdown, up to 15 or 20 minutes. (These comments refer to version 7.1 for Vista.)

Cons: Bogged my system, slowed internet to a crawl

Good product but with problems that won't be fixed

Pros: ZA does a good job with spyware, viruses and other nasties. It's easy to use.

Cons: Uses way too much system resources. Too many foreground processes, interrupting whatever you're doing. Incompatible with some websites, preventing access. Nonexistent technical supporft

Review: How'd you like it if you're in the middle of a game or Photoshop or just browsing the web if some software pops up, stopping or, at least, realllllllly slowing you down until it gets done checking for updates and doing other housecleaning? That's what ZA 7 does. Also, its current version (7.046) has some problems with some websites that have "redirect" functions. In some cases, it just stops waiting for the redirection to complete. In others, it just prevents access to the site. Notifying Zone Labs of this problem doesn't help: they just ignore your inquiries.

Pros: meets all my security needs in a mostly user-frnendly pkg.

Cons: takes all night to do a deep scan of everything on system

Review: It's comprehensive and good but after renewing it will no longer update anti-virus manually or automatically ("anti-virus update error") and the ZA support site has no help at all on that subject, which surprises me after the reported update problems last year. I don't want the new version that sends out for hourly updates to see if that works, as I hate how it slows down my Dad's 2.4 Ghz computer. What do I do?
Updated
Decided to try reinstalling "upgrade" to same version as before of ZASS to keep my settings and preferences), and anti-virus update error is gone, but System Configuration (my cheap-o way of keeping some programs or services from running and slowing things down) froze during reboot, so now I have all those demons loose! Should I just update to new version and hope?

Updated
Well, I took the plunge and upgraded my ZASS 7 from .03etc. to .04etc., which solved whatever was causing my problem. I'm sure glad because I keep reading about people using several free pieces of separate software to provide security for their computer, and I hope I never have to go that way. It's bad enough having to set up one program, but why bother when this one does it all in one neat package without hogging all your memory or CPU time like some other well known brands have been known to do. It also means less updates, upgrades, installs, etc.
Updated
I forgot to note that this latest upgrade has also got ZASS 7 working much faster on his 2.4 Ghz computer. My bad, it was when he upgraded to the version before this latest one that he experienced a slowdown at times, which we now believe was some sort of conflict with other programs he had that were also updating a lot. He is now happy as a lark with how Zass 7 runs, and with the protection it provides (Between the two of us we have had no malware in the past year.)

Zonealarm went from a 9 to a 1

Pros: Interface is "ok"

Cons: Buggy, slow, two scanning processes all the time, resource hog

Review: I have been using ZoneAlarm for about 6 years and have always been pretty happy. 2007 brought on a host of issues. I upgraded to Vista (a seperate issue) and they were very, very, slow in getting a vista version. They shipped an extremely buggy, slow, resource hog that acts unpredictably and you instantly see the performance drop (I tried several experiments on uninstalling and installing, watched the resources through various utilities...this was ZoneAlarm).

Additionally, their support has dropped through the floor to abysmal, and this is support even via email or online.

Shop elsewhere for you security needs. ZoneAlarm destroyed in a few months what takes years to build: brand and reputation.

Very solid software

Pros: Good anti-spyware and improved anti-virus

Cons: interface can be improved

Review: I dumped Onecare 2.0 for ZA 7 Suite. ZA 7 offers better performance and stability.

Poor Documentation

Pros: Lots of control

Cons: Poor documentation

Does Everything You Need, Requires Tech Skill

Pros: email filtering, pop-up stopper, fully customizable!

Cons: Requires knowledge of the technical language to utilize properly

Review: I used CA for a full year on my system with what seemed like no problem, until I installed Zone Alarm's security suite 7. To my surprise I had three high risk back door sniffers running unbeknown to CA. The installation was much easier than other reviewers have stated, if you already know you must uninstall your previous anti-virus, spyware, etc from your system.
If you have the expertise or the tenacity to do the research on the available Zone Alarm features you can keep your PC much more private than with "user friendly" products. Best feature CA didn't afford: personal information encryption to prevent financial fraud.

Do not buy!

Pros: good firewall and antivirus

Cons: Your computer becomes unusably slow & crashes

Review: I have an intel pentium m laptop @ 1.7ghz with 1gb of ram running windows xp pro
i'm pretty good at tweaking and keeping it running top-notch so it used to boot up in seconds and run thru programs like a ferrari with avg free antivirus, windows defender, windows firewall.
well after i downloaded and paid for the zonealarm pro (which i thought would be worth the upgrade from a security standpoint) my computer took 5 minutes to boot up and became unbearably slow. so slow i would curse at it in desperation lol. programs would crash (esp outlook), my internet wifi connection would take a couple tries to connect (or never connect) and then randomly drop the connection. Download speeds slowed (even over a lan cable) etc.
Simple tasks became a pain. Well, i bore it for months since i paid for it and everything but today i've had enough and it's uninstalled. And i've learnt my lesson. PASS ON IT!

Best I've had

Pros: Does what it says it will

Cons: Can need some tweaking on user part

Review: I was so glad this lived up to what it claimed as well as the rating cnet gave it. I threw away my Mcafee and certainly Norton. Not only does it work well but never freezes my system up. I enjoy watching everything it catches so effortlessly.

Not quite there yet

Pros: Solid protection

Cons: long scan times, occasionally locks up machine on spyware scan, junkmail filter sometimes locks up Outlook on start-up

Review: Product seems solid. Firewall is great. AV and Anti-spyware have stopped several attacks. Irritants are that after AV scan, window on taskbar is still there and won't close until reboot. Spyware scan has locked up machine twice forcing reboot yet logs show nothing found. Installed Ad-aware and it found usual couple of cookies. Running XP Pro on 3 mhz machine with 80 gig worth of data and scans take about 6 hrs however I do tell it to use extended database to scan.
Went to this one because of negative report on my old security suite on independent reviewer site. I may have better security but price to pay is a seemingly immature product. It's usable so will keep for the year, then replace it with someone else's product. At this point could not recommend it.

Outstanding-great

Pros: Very secure/efficent

Cons: No cons noted

Review: I'm a retired, 32 year IT professional. I have been using Norton Products for 12 years; and I'm now jumping ship. I've been testing ZA on my desktop for sometime now (my normal use PC is a notebook), and I'm really impressed with its features. I use the maximum settings, with small tweaks. I will be converting my wife's computer and my notebook computer to ZA. It has been my experience helping friends converting programs like Norton to ZA, and even sometime ZA to ZA (upgrading), that the problem is that they try to just uninstall the old program and reinstall the new one, and that is where the problem is. To change the a major program like this, it better to rebuild the computer (software wise) from scratch. The old program may have incompatable hooks left that cause the problems. This, or the user not RTFM (Reading The Flipping Manual) is usually (in my experience) the cause of not using the program correctly.

No product I ever use gets a 10/10.

The BEST I had so far...

Pros: Very Secure, Advance configuration

Cons: Not user friendly, resource killer (like any other products)

Review: This software is for people who have experiences with firewall... If you don't know what are you doing then you can easily block yourself to access anything on the web or having issues with running apps... I would recommend to install on a test box and get familiar with it first... If you are doing a fresh windows install then install ZoneAlaram right after you have the OS installed... so you can manage it from the beginning... I am using ZoneAlarm for more than 3 or 4 years... once or twice replaced it with another product but went back to it again... The ZoneAlarm's security it is worth the headache you go through to learn it... By the way I never had any issues such as Blue Screen!!! or OS corruption... NOT even once... I haven't tried this with Vista yet and I only used it on XP Pro...

Doesn't play well when uploading photos.

Pros: I'm still evaluating.

Cons: Doesn't work with photo sites, such as Snapfish and Kodak. No meaningful technical support.

Review: If you use photo upload sites such as Kodak or Snapfish, you will have to turn off ZoneAlarm Security Suite completely before you can upload photos. The suite doesn't work with those sites: The computer locks up and you must reboot.

And on a related note: The CNet editors badly underplayed Zone Alarm's weak technical support. It simply has NO meaningful technical support, unless you are willing to pay for it. Symantec, by contrast, has real-time online and phone technical support.

When I encountered the problems uploading photos, I was absolutely on my own.

Pros: secures you for most of your internet experience

Cons: needs a lot of configuring

It's worked well for me

Pros: Found viruses and a trojan that slipped by Norton

Cons: User interface needs some work

Review: I switched to ZoneAlarm because Norton 2005 kept spontaneously disabling firewall and antivirus with no warning, kept having software problems requiring re-install, and LiveUpdate was twitchy at best.

When I switched to ZoneAlarm Suite 7, it immediately found several viruses and a trojan that Norton had missed on scans.

ZoneAlarm is not without its problems, however. When I want to change web browser settings, I shouldn't have to go pick it from a list of 300 applications. And some of those setting keep mysteriously reverting back to default. The user interface needs work. Some features, like cache cleaner, is tucked into weird spots that you wouldn't expect. I hate the Logs and Alerts section. Don't make me pick between 8 different categories on a pull-down list, just give a comprehensive list that I can sort by whichever column I want.

All things considered, ZoneAlarm has been a good product. The user interface is a little clunky and the settings are scattered too far and wide. The help menus are no help, so you have to learn to navigate it on your own. On the good side, I haven't had anything near the problems that I had with Norton and I haven't had to uninstall and reinstall even once. I've seen from personal experience that the antivirus/anti-spyware is superior to Norton and will stop the nasties that Norton lets through.

Great Product! Get version 70.462 not 70.337

Pros: Easy setup, smooth intergration

Cons: None so far

Review: I had a lot of problems with version 70.337 which is the one causing all the negative comments on this site. 70.462 is excellent runs without a peep on my T30 and desktop PC. Checkpoint really fixed all the bugs and I can even run Netflix online movies on my laptop!

ZoneAlarm Security Suite - worst security software I've used

Pros: intuitive interface

Cons: Often takes so much cpu and resources, a reboot is needed

Review: It hurts cnet's credibility to continue to rate this product so highly. I have a dual core pc. ZoneAlarm is so hurtful to the pc behavior, I have to keep the product turned off except for a periodic check for a virus or worm. It usually requires reboot to get the pc to behave normally.

Windows XP Professional, Dual Core Athelon users should be careful.

Excellent for XP, Vista users beware!

Pros: The best firewall for windows xp

Cons: Vista version freeze, crashes, and worse!

Review: I've used zone alarm for years and loved it. Then I got a vista computer.

My vista computer was freezing up. I traced it back to a process in zone alarm. I uninstalled zone alarm and it caused my computer not to startup anymore. Vista was unable to fix it and I had to reinstall everything.

I subsiquently tried Kasperski internet suite and everything is working great.

Zone Alarm really dropped the ball on this one. I can't believe they haven't come out with a fix yet.

What has ZA become? And CNET too

Pros: Comprehensive, Program-specific and effective

Cons: A giant resource hog

Review: I've been a ZA user for over 6 years. And for most of those I've been a fan. I've gotten my brother, parents and friends to use it. But since version 6.5, my patience has been really tested. Today I gave in and decided to finally dump Zone Alarm Pro. Ever since the version 6.5 about 1-2 years ago, it's a memory hog, CPU hog and disk hog.

Proof that the coders had no sense is that what is supposed to be a silent background "update" to its antivirus and antispyware
databases just halts the entire system by hogging everything. It should have been a "nice" low-priority event. Instead my laptop just grinds to a halt when the ZA update starts (in the background). 1 GB RAM with Centrino just becomes useless. When Zone Alarm is loaded, the fan is always on and the laptop becomes too hot. I cannot even change priority of the process.

When I uninstall ZA, everything runs just fine. Smooth. And Cool. The fan rarely starts. Trying other AV and firewall softwares. The system is so much
better now. So long ZA.

Works as expected

Pros: Clean interface, Feature rich, Kaspersky, Nice price

Cons: Slightly kludgy, Vista release missing chunks available for other O/S's

Review: On the whole I'm pretty happy with ZASS 7.0. I was a user of ZASS 6.0 and dumped it partially because it used the abysmal CA engine. Now they've finally partnered with a decent AV vendor things a looking rosy again.

Zone Alarm is the best balanced antivirus software.

Pros: It catches viruses from usb drives, mmc, and java script virus very quickly, instantly.

Cons: One has to learn it sereously, make your rules for firewall with all scrutiny.not exectly for new user.

Review: I have used KAV which is good but cost is high second i am very familier with firewall of Zone then with KAV,on this point Zone is best then Kasp.Security Suite.
I have used Avira,AVG,Pccillin,BitDeffender(complex installation),NOD32 but I only satisfied with Zone(chip,free)and KAV.

Better performance from Symantec

Pros: Easy to use control panel

Cons: KILLS outlook and Intenet Explorer performance

Review: I can't understand what the CNET editor was thinking that gave ZoneAlarm an 8.0. My reason for switching from Symantec to ZoneAlarm was to increase performance.

Symantec slowed the computer down, but did not cripple it the way ZoneAlarm does. ZoneAlarm has caused Outlook to lock up, constantly giving me a "Not Responding" Error. The same goes for internet explorer.

The performance is so unacceptable I am now looking for new firewall and internet security. I would definitely not recommend this software.

User Rating: 9/10

This is a great security program. No problems with it and its not slow on my system.

Pros: Top firewall protection, including os and program security.

Cons: Hard to find much fault other than I'd like to exclude certain file types in the antivirus scanning.

Review: People complaining about slowness must be using slow computers to begin with. I am running XP Pro SP2 and have a Pentium D dual core with 2 gigs of RAM and 2 serial ATA drives.

The firewall is the best out there and the Antivirus is by Kapersky (which supplies updates to threats almost every 2 hours). The email protection is by Mail Frontier.

In any case I find this to be the best security suite I've tried so far. I would just like a bit more control over the AntiVirus. One of the features that I really like is that I can tell it to keep certain process from running (processes for example that I remove from startup and kill in the processes list but keep coming back).

Also the product is very well priced for what comes with it.

It has never caused my system to hang. The times my system has frozen I found out it was due to other programs. It's easy to point to ZoneAlarm for all sorts of unexplained behaviour but most of the time it has nothing to do with it.

The logon time is maybe a bit slower than without it but only because it integrates itself to provide maximum protection. Try killing the program or services and you won't be able to, precisely to keep malicious programs from doing so.

If you are using Outlook you may want to take a look at how big your pst file is. If its huge that may be a cause for slowing down the machine since the virus scanner has to scan the entire thing every time. The other thing I noticed that slows the down the system is Microsoft Desktop search. To fix this go to the control panel and in the Indexing Options->Advanced->File Types uncheck all the XML filter options. You'll see a big difference after espcially if you have ITunes on your system. Also if you don't have an Ipod or Apple Mobile device you should go to Services and disable the Ipod and Apple mobile services which I find slow things down. But ZoneAlarm does not slow down my system or make it hang. I went away from Norton precisely because Norton slowed things down tremendously.
Updated
People should be checking their version of ZoneAlarm. The latest (as of writing this) is 7.0.462.000 which was released on November 20, 2007 now works great. No CPU hogging or sluggish performance. Since I've updated from 7.0.337.000 everything was fine. There may be a problem with 7.0.337.000 that keeps saying it is the latest version and so never updates to the new ones.

People who do not have the latest version should download it manually by going to their website, then "Download and buy" then click on update under upgrade, go to the bottom of the page and select your product under the "update now" section.

frustrating, slow and poor vista support

Pros: Great firewall, easy learning curve, many options to customize for different skill levels, secure 3 computers for the price of one

Cons: limited vista support, poor performance, slow to release patches

Review: I have reviewed and tested many different security suites. I noted many good reviews of ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 7. I installed it on my XP power house workstation it liked it, it seemed fast, easy to use, and un-intrusive, so I bought several copies of it and installed it several computers. I really liked the ?secure 3 computers with one purchase?. However, every laptop user began to complain of massive performance hits, and after the software's 30day learning process the suite started to ask questions about most actions the popups became so annoying popups the user?s started to ignore them and accept ?yes? for everything. These problems along with the imitated vista support should really be cause for the company to release an update, service pack or a refund. If you use this software, make sure you have XP, fast RPM hard drives and are an experienced firewall user.

It works fine, it's just kind of slow

Pros: Lots of settings. Cool interface

Cons: Obvious decrease in internet speed

Review: It downloaded and installed just fine. I'm wondering if some of the people who had problems didn't think to completely uninstall or disable their previous virus software before installing and running this one.

The interface is pretty slick, and it has lots of custom settings. If you don't know what you're doing, you can keep the default settings and it will work fine. If you want more control, it's there if you know how to use it.

I'm glad I started with a trial, instead of plunking down the $40.00, because I'm not going to keep it. I reconfigured the thing to bare bones, and it still slows my internet to an unacceptable speed. I'm not talking about taking up too many system resources or slowing down the computer in general. I'm just saying it takes too long for internet pages to load. This is even after turning off spyware, cookie blocker, parental control, IM protection and lowering the firewall settings.

I think the program may just try to do too much, at the expense of performance. But if that's what you into, then this product will be just fine.

Terrible Product, Very Poor Value

Pros: Have not found any so far

Cons: Customer Support , Didn't work with my WinXP System,

Review: I have had nothing but headaches with Zone Alarm Security Suite 7. I had been using Zone Alarm 6.5 for a full year with no problems when a critical update was automatically pushed to my system. This update turned out to be ZASS7 and it crashed my perfectly working WINXP Pro system. I spent three months trying to recover from this update. Tech support was terrible and my only help was the user forums and the numerous folks who had the same issues. I was never able to get ZASS7 to work correctly. It rendered my system totally useless. All my time and effort was spent trying to get ZASS7 off my system.
I thought I could just go back to ZASS6.5 which worked fine but Check Point no longer provides montly updates for ZASS 6.5. So long Check Point. I will never use your products again. SHAME ON CNET TOO! You guys got this one wrong! The problems I've read about this software do not rate your Editors Chice Award!

Why ya'll hating ZASS?!

Pros: Strong firewall, anti-virus

Cons: performance slows down laptop slightly ; got to perfect Force Field

Review: Sorry guys, but ZASS is the best. It found a virus during the first anti-virus scan. My only gripes is that (1). ZASS makes my laptop slower (though since I got 2GB ram, it's not a serious issue) and (2)a program that ZA is working on (ZoneAlarm ForceField)isn't yet finished. It would easily deal with the antiphishing issues that ZASS has.

Slow startup solution

Pros: Price... substantailly lower for the 3-pack than oithers (I hate MIRs).

Cons: Like all security suite flavors, it has some minor annoyances. The worst one is the slow startup time. It's crazy how slow it makes the startup.

Review: Here's the slow startup solution (not my idea... but it works):
1) Disable "Load ZA on Startup" in preferences.

2) Create shortcut of ZAClient.exe and put this shortcut on your desktop. C:>Program Files>Zone Labs>ZoneAlarm

3) Put the shortcut in C:>Documents and Settings> {Your computer name} >Start Menu> Programs>Startup

Reboot PC and voila! Sucks that we have to do it, but it works and no more insane startup times.

ABYSMAL Customer Support - No response on two separate incidents.

Pros: Zone Alarm 7 ran well for a while until it stopped updating the virus & spy definition files; I was only 1 month into my 1-year subsription.

Cons: POOR customer service. Protection/software ran fine until it stopped updating the virus & spy definition files; queries to customer service & technical support went unanswered.

Review: Abysmal customer service makes this product not worth it. There are other comparable products on the market with better customer service behind them. Kapersky Antivirus, for example, offers great antivirus protection with much better tech/customer service behind it.

Don't waste your time with ZA Security Suite

Pros: Clean interface, Takes up little memory, No annoying popups.

Cons: After 2 months Anti-virus/Anti-spyware stopped updating. You need to pay $2.95 per minute for Customer Suppport. You need to pay $9.99 for a back-up disk.

Review: I have used the Zone Alarm firewall for years and have been very happy. I recently read the good reviews on CNET for the Zone Alarm Security Suite so I decided to purchase it for my new Windows Vista Laptop. Big Mistake! After only two months the Anti-virus/Anti-spyware stopped updating. I followed the instructions of the various "Gurus" at the Zone Alarm user forums, booting my computer in safe-mode and performing various complicated procedures, and nothing has been able to help. Apparently, this is a known issue that they will not address. I sent an e-mail to their customer support buy never heard anything back. Another frustrating thing is that you have to pay $2.95 per minute for customer support. So basically, they have a faulty product and they want to charge you more money to fix it! Maybe others are having a better experience with Zone Alarm Security Suite than I am, but based on my experience I definately would not recommend it to anyone!

Pros: Very Good product

Cons: No words for the software

The Antivirus is excellent even better thasn the new bitdefender 2008 . But the antispyware is grate!

Zone Alarm 7 does not live up to billing

Pros: Probably provides good virus and firewall protection

Cons: No FREE live technical support. Interface with Vista OS is poor. Too many alert warnings.

Review: I was very disappointed in the high ratings that CNET and PC World provided for ZA Internet Security Suite 7. Because of these reviews, I purchased this product and have had some major challenges with my Vista OS. 1)ZA has way too many alerts 2) it consumes a lot of CPU 3) does a virus and firewall definition update every hour 4) it has a major flaw when doing a scheduled virus scan. So far, whenever it initiates its own scheduled scan, ZA will get hung up and not scan beyond the first file. Compounding the problem is that you can't shut the process down and you then must reboot your computer. 5) Free technical support doesn't exist and the email technical support people don't read your whole email. In response to my problem, they sent me a beta version for Windows 2000/XP ONLY when I clearly indicated I was on Vista OS. Not happy at all with this software product. I would go back to Norton Internet Security Suite in a heartbeat if I hadn't already paid for ZA. I will shift back once this subscription ends. But I will caveat that I'm not sure how good Norton will run on Vista either.

Pros: All-in-one product

Cons: Crashes computers regularly

Review: I cannot believe this is an Editor's Choice product. It's been a complete disaster since installing on our PCs. It's a complete resource hog which slows down every process. It takes upwards of 10 minutes for the startup process, or it just crashes completely. We're very disappointed with the product.

Vista Users, Beware!

Pros: Reliable firewall.

Cons: Many options missing for Vista users.

Review: A loyal ZoneAlarm consumer since 2003, I have never been disappointed by their products, until now. I recently purchased ZA Internet Security Suite version 7.1 for Windows Vista and have been confronted with a variety of bugs and glitches.
On its website, ZoneLabs trumpets the many sophisticated features the new software provides. However, many of the options present for the XP version (Identity Theft Protection, Anti-Phishing, Game Mode, Wireless PC Protection, IM Protection and others) are simply ABSENT on the Vista version. Additionally, since installing the program three months ago it has been unable to update its Anti-virus and Anti-spam files! Also, judging by the quantity of dissatisfied Vista users on their own tech support forum, these fixes are a long way off.
That said, the firewall retains the same reliably airtight security of previous versions and usability is familiar and easy. This is all fine, but lacking the many features as promised, new Vista buyers might well consider simply downloading the basic FREE version! Sadly, in ZoneLabs' rush to market they have turned out a surprisingly mediocre product.

Bye Bye Old Friend

Pros: The firewall worked most of the time.

Cons: Slows boot and shutdown to a crawl, slows internet access and e-mail access, spam filter only works with Microsoft e-mail software, degrades system performance, shuts down on it's own intermittently.

Review: I had been a big fan of Zone Alarm for many years and used it on multiple machines at home and at work. Although I still had over a year left on my Zone Alarm Security Suite 7 licences, the software was so problematic (and frustrating) that I purchased Kaspersky Internet Security Suite 7. The results? Fast boot and shutdown (just like I got prior to installing ZASS7), quick access to the internet and e-mail, spam filters work with my WordPerfect Mail software, does not degrade system performance, and no intermittent shutdowns leaving my computer at risk. Unless something seriously changes, I have purchased my last Zone Alarm licence. So sad to see a great product fall so far. Kaspersky Internet Security 7 is a 10!

ZoneAlarm- Disappointed

Pros: Under XP Loved it

Cons: Under Vista- couldn't get it to install!!!!!!

Review: I don't know if they fixed it. Had it installed on my XP machine and LOVED it. I even renewed early, worked fine. Then started looking for a new machine, everything I looked at had Vista pre-installed. I checked their website to make sure ZA supported Vista, they claimed it did with some options not available.
Purchased new machine with Vista installed, updated all my programs to Vista compatible software, including ZA. Tried to install it and had nothing but headaches, wouldn't completely install, since it didn't completely install I couldn't get it to uninstall. It just about had my brand new machine in ruins, came close to restoring from back up. Thats how bad it was.
After several weeks of trying to get a refund as I couldn't use their software, I HAD 450 days of subscription left. Finally someone returned my email to inform me that to bad, so sad, you only have a 30 day money back guarantee. I wasn't seeking a Full refund, a partial would have been okay. Case denied!!
So, not knowing if it's fixed, Vista folks beware. Do a free trial if your brave enough to. XP folks, beware if your thinking of a new machine with Vista loaded.
I lost all respect for this company/ product. Again I didn't ask for a full refund but had over 450 days of subscription left when I removed their product from my machine.
BEWARE of this program. Side note I purchased Norton 360, it said it supports Vista, guess what? Norton installed without ANY problems, works fine. ZA lost a customer and by the way they lost a fan that touted their product to many people.
Updated
I was/ had been a LOYAL ZA ISS 7 fan! I had been using ZA ISS for several yrs.
I recently purchased a new machine that came with Vista preloaded. BEFORE making the purchase I checked all my add on programs to insure compatibility as I wanted to migrate them over.
ZA stated on their website that ZA ISS 7 WAS Vista compatible. After having some problems installing it, probably due to a Norton trial ware package that was also on the machine, got it installed. Only to discover that NOT ALL features are available under Vista.
I contacted ZA customer support and queried them as to why It was not 100% Vista compatible only to be told IT WAS 100% compatible. After many, many emails I finally got them to fess up that some features available for the XP SP2( my old box had XP) users ARE NOT AVAILABLE under Vista, as they let Vista handle it. The following was copied DIRECTLY from THEIR webpage!!

An OK system with no custom setting and poor support

Pros: Covers email, effective at catching viruses without interfering with regular internet traffic

Cons: No custom setting for individual users (i.e., if you have a kid you are stuck with kid setting unless you are willing to take a risk), poor customer service,

Review: I purchased the item several weeks ago and ended up uninstalling it and getting my money back. After fighting through several issues with installation (no vector, lost .dll file, etc.) and finally getting it re-installed clean (at 3-rd attempt!) the program kept on telling me that my subscription expired and I need to renew it. Customer service gave me a runaround at first and finally I was told to put a number into the program part that was not accessible (every time I tried it the application would freeze up on me). I was getting an impression that Zone wanted me to pay twice for the product. So much for that.

False Advertising- Vista Version Excludes Features

Pros: Easy to use Interface with advanced features, good firewall

Cons: Doesn't include promised features, slow performance, locks up

Review: The ZoneAlarm Internet Suite promises a slew of protection features, however, it delivers only a few of those.
The Vista version 7.1 does not include instant messaging protection, identity theft protection, spy site protection, or parental controls!!!
So, basically, you get the ZoneAlarm anti-virus for the Security Center price. Terrible!

Also, performance is horrible! It takes forever to do a virus scan. (about twice as long as McAfee's VirusScan) It slows down boot up and shut down.

Until Checkpoint stops defrauding people, I would recommend that everyone avoid this product!

All ZoneAlarm is good for is a very good firewall; everything else is a joke!

More Like A Beta Version

Pros: Improved anivirus and antispyware

Cons: Large amount of bugs and errors

Review: PROS:Better interface than previous versions. The antivirus uses Kaspersky engine and Kaspersky signature based detection and removal is excellent.
The antispyware is much better than Spyware doctor and Spy-sweeper.It does a fantastic job at blocking spyware and from corner of your pc.
The firewall is robust.Proving cutting-edge technology at eliminating hacker and intruders and the intrusion prevention blocks all known exploits. It includes a learn mode which understands the programs and components in your pc.
The privacy manages passwords and blocks phishers and intruders from capturing your personal details.

CONS:Weak proactive defense. No vulnerability assessment. It runs high on memory.Due to large amount of bugs it crashes or unresponsive. No parental controls and no antiphising protection for Firefox or Opera.Antispam is weak.Had some trouble updating.Vista users may experience problems.

CONCLUSION:Zonealarm did improve it's antivirus and antispyware and includes robust firewall. But has lots of problems and large amount of bugs keeps it unstable.I don't think Zone alarm deserved the editors choice award form Cnet.

I don't know how this won an award...

Pros: Easy installation

Cons: Not all aspects work

Review: I purchased this online after seeing a promotion Zone Labs had which bundled the Security Suite with System Mechanic. I had been using free programs to protect my laptop, but decided to bite the bullet and purchase a product with full capabilities. As it turns out, I was better off with the free products! The firewall portion of the security suite works fine, but the anti-virus and anti-spyware portions became disabled after less than a week. The Overview page shows that my license has expired, and when I check Zone Labs website it confirms that my license has indeed expired. This is the same license I just purchased on 9/21/07 for $50 ! To me this product was a total waste of my time and money. Basically, I paid $50 for a firewall (which I could of had for free) and System Mechanic. Unacceptable. Of course I will get a refund and go back to using the free products which never gave me a problem.

A perfect compliment of individual strenghts

Pros: Kaspersky Anti-Virus - World Class Firewall- Excellent Spyware Detection & Removal

Cons: None other than the Program Control takes patience but rewards the user eventually

Review: Finally a Security Suite with a light footprint, and user friendly applications. The Jewel in my opinion is Kaspersky Anti-Virus.Once your surfing habits are averaged,I find in this version that the permissions pop-ups are far less intrusive than in past versions. If marketing at Zone Alarm wants to stay at the forefront, include their new Force Field Virtual Browser as an integral part and upgrade in their next Security Suite 8. For now feel secure,in knowing that the overall quality of Security Suite 7,rivals the finest individual apps at a super affordable price point.

So sad, how a good product went down

Pros: Firewall: Lot's of options

Cons: Crashes, locks up, does not store all choices.

Review: Long ago, there was no choice in a firewall, Zone Alarm ruled. I started noticing problems in version 6, and they got worse for Version 7. I run this product on 3 machines, and have three different result sets. One of my machines will work fine for a week or two, then Zonealarm will start consuming GDI objects. After it acquires 5 or 6 thousand GDIs, nothing will start. This problem started with version 6. On another machine, during every weekly virus scan, it reports a potential problem in a program. Every week I tell it to ?Ignore Always?. The only thing Zone Alarm ignores is my request, because next week it reports the same problem. On two of my machines, Zone Alarm will be running along just fine, then vsmon.exe crashes and I?m left unprotected.

It?s sad to see that such a great product has fallen so far.
Updated
Zonealarm crashes my computers at least 1 a month, and normally twice a month. I bought the 3 computer integrated pack and have already pulled it off two of the computers. Any firewall is better, even the lame Microsoft firewall is better, than crashing my systems.

If you run 24/7 and want your system to hang and crash, if you want zero support from your vendor, then get Zonealarm. Otherwise, get anything else.

Terrible Terrible Terrible

Pros: Expensive so must be good ?

Cons: Uses up all your resources and locks up computer often

Review: I have had this program for a year and HATE IT. I have had to uninstall is and reinstall it like 20 times. It has 2 different scanning processes and a vsmon that locks up your sytems for 3 to 5 minutes on every boot up. If you have a screen saver, you have to completely shut down Zone alarm or you can't access the internet. They don't have customer support unless you want to pay them $50 bucks .
I wish I never bought this program.
Buyer beware.

Best all-in-one Security

Pros: Strong firewall, and great anti-virus definitions from Kaspersky

Cons: possible slight learning curve for new users

Review: I have used ZoneAlarm free firewall forever and this upgrade is perfect. Before I did not like that the anti-virus definitions were from CA, but now they must have read my mind and are in contract with Kaspersky, the anti-virus I would use if not already combined in this suite. Consumer Reports called v.6 the only suite of protection they would recommend. I will take this any day over Norton's memory hog operations. Firewall settings are great too so can be less invasive for casual users, or track everything, and can be easily turned to game mode to allow all when playing a trusted game or using a trusted installer that might normally recommend turning off your firewall. I only have a couple other anti-spyware apps that are a lot quicker than ZoneAlarm's and I can live with that.

What happened to ZoneAlarm?

Pros: Well, it still has name recognition, barely

Cons: Slows system, protection is so-so

Review: I purchased this after a pretty good experience with the beta. I purchased the three-PC pack and installed it on three heavily-used PC's in my home. After 30 days or so, despite having already done so, I was prompted to enter my serial number to unlock my "trial" product. It had even deactivated without our knowledge, in one case for up to two-weeks before we noticed! After reinstalling my key on all three PC's, I updated and scanned them all. One PC has major startup/shutdown issues caused by on-access scanning being active. If I deactivate on-access scanning, Windows boots and shuts down just fine. I've tried re-installing, upgrading, etc. Still a problem. It also constantly boots my daughter out of her IM client for no reason or security issue. Appears to be yet another glitch. On all of the PC's, the program is a serious resource hog, especially when it's updating. I've seen it regularly gobble up over 60% of the CPU and RAM. And don't try to do anything while it's initializing or updating. Your system is completely frozen. And this is a P4 3.2HT with a gig of RAM, so it's not a bare-bones system. I've had a firewall/security breach occur via my kids online gaming (Isn't that the main reason to buy ZA over the others???) that subjected my network to a DOS attack and brought down everything in the house, even the router. After getting a new IP for the WAN router and massive cleaning of the compromised PC's, we were back in business. I regret buying this product. It slows down the system, doesn't protect as well as one would hope, and just seems to have dropped significantly in quality. I will definitely shop elsewhere when this license is up.

A BIG disaster!

Pros: Not one that I experienced

Cons: Corrupted Windows XP Home edition

Review: I have been a Zone Alarm customer for many years and was pleased with their products - until Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite 7. This has been a nightmare. I have been working to recover my PC for 4 days now. I finally have beeen able to reproduce the failure which occurs when you install this product on Windows XP sp2. The PC becomes unuseable & you cannot use system restore to recover because this product corrupts windows system files. I have always used up to date firewall (ZA) & antivirus software so I highly doubt that my PC was infected prior to this install. Several days ago I contacted ZA about this problem but they are not resposive. If you buy this product, make sure you have the ability to easily recover your PC before you install it. I think ZA blew it on this one!!!!!!

I have to take back my negative comments in the review I posted. I discovered a hard drive failure on my C drive that was really the root of all evil. It was just a coincidence that the hard drive began to fail while I was installing Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite. After replacing the C drive I reinstalled Zone Alarm & it's running fine.

ZoneAlarm rocks!

Pros: Uses Kaspersky engine, good anti-spyware and great firewall.

Cons: Slow your PC at the begining. As it uses Kaspersky engine, it should be the same virus signatures. I tried both but Kaspersky found that ZA missed (potential virus)...

Review: Why all these negative comments? I guess it's because some compatibility issues. I have to admit that at the begining, ZA can slow down your PC a bit because of the learning mode. But few days after, it worked fine with me on my 3 PCs! Yes, if you have an old maching it can be a pain in the b*** (I have a Celeron with 500 MB RAM). But on my two other machines, I don't have any problems. But I can understand that compatibility issues can be annoying. Other than that, you won't encounter virus problems at all!

Latest version just doesn't work

Pros: Easy to use and includes wide range of features

Cons: Latest version makes my PC unusable

Review: Upgraded to the latest version about 08-15-07, just about all types of problems you could think of including:: Start-up very long if the PC opened at all - 15 to 20 minutes to shutdown -- User Fast switching not working - System Lock up"s - PC speed very very very slow. Tried uninstalling and Clean re-install with very little improvemen.

No information from Zone Alarm about problems. Finally uninstalled it and gave up. ZA Software is no longer usable on my PC. I am running Windows XP with all updates. This same type of problem happened last year when they upgraded their Software.

At this time I would not recommend Zone Alarm.

Makes your computer safe by blocking the ENTIRE INTERNET

Pros: Safe? Maybe?

Cons: Blocks all internet traffic after an hour

Review: They say "the safest computer is one that is not connected to the internet." ZoneAlarm takes this to heart and times out my DSL connection after an hour. I realized that the problem went away after I disabled ZA.

It's not safe to run without a firewall, but seeing as how I can't run with this one, I have no choice but to uninstall it and look for something else.

Really retarded job, guys.

Formerly loyal user - finally frustrated to death!

Pros: Uninstalls itself completely

Cons: Doesn't work, abysmal support

Review: SOO frustrating! This isn't the first time this has happened... the new version, 7.0.362, has major problems (for example you can't shut down without pulling the plug on your PC, it chews up 100% CPU forever while "installing updates" which never finish installing, etc.) and they leave it on their site as the newest version! They don't back it out and put the last working version in an accessible spot. They don't acknowledge any of their problems on their website - you have to rely on the unsupervised user forum for communication. They actually encourage you to use their new beta if you have problems (which you will) but caution you in all caps to backup your entire system, etc. and there are problems reported with that version too. I once had an antique Jaguar which looked awesome but continually broke down - this software is just like that! If only it worked... and if only the authors had a different attitude towards customer support.

Lame software, Waste of Money

Pros: It can be turned off.

Cons: It is a system hog.

Review: This softward is the dog of dogs. It will monopolize your system and still allow spyware and virus threats to access your operating system. I am running Zone Alarm on 3 computers and Trend Micro on 2 computers and the difference is astounding. Don't waste your time with Zone Alarm, get the Trend software and you'll be glad you did.

The worst program that I have ever installed

Pros: It uninstalls smoothly

Cons: It made my computer take forever to do anything

Review: I?m very disappointed with the professionals who rated Zone Alarm Internet Security 2007 so highly. I have never been a fan of Norton Internet Security, having long ago run away from that. Knowing that I had to buy a new computer and having read all the upbeat reviews about ZAIS 2007, I held off buying my Dell Dimension 9200 until Zone Alarm issued its Vista release, 7.1. The new computer came with Norton Internet Security installed for a 30-day free trial. I was amazed by how satisfied I was with the Norton IS 2007 product, but, because of the great reviews for ZA, when the 30 days passed, I uninstalled the Norton product and downloaded the ZA product. That was one of the biggest mistakes that I have made in 20 years of using a computer.

My printer no longer started printing pages immediately. It took 4 minutes to start and then each page came out exceedingly slowly.
It used to take me less than 4 minutes to scan and OCR 6 pages with either OmniPage Pro 15 or Adobe Acrobat 8. This morning it took 65 minutes.

It took about five times as long as normal for my computer to boot and several times as long as normal for my computer to shut down. The first night I had ZAIS 2007.1 installed, I waited 30 minutes for the shutdown to complete before I went to bed with it still in progress, to awake to find that the shutdown was eventually successful.
The second night, my computer would not shut down. Everything was frozen. Task Manager did not work. I tried to restart by holding down the restart button, but that had no effect.

My computer would freeze for minutes and then come alive with no explanation. Sometimes I could not even open task manager.

Some programs would not open until I tried several times.

The start menu would freeze in place and not respond.

I have now uninstalled Zone Alarm Internet Security 7.1. It was easy, perhaps the best part of the program. On rebooting, my computer runs like its old self. I?m still waiting for ZA tech support to get back to me with a work around, leaving my computer unprotected. I guess that I?ll now have to return to Norton.

Comment: Of course, it could be that all these problems were caused by Norton Internet Security leaving something behind when it was uninstalled. If that is possible, I'd like to read the facts.

Great firewall and virus suite

Pros: It learns your habits

Cons: Sometimes slows page loads

Review: I've been a fan of Zone Alarm for many years, starting with the free edition of their great firewall. I bought this edition to replace a McAfee security suite that was nearly timed out and was nagging me with pop-ups and HORNS three times a day! I did not like those HORNS and could not locate the .wav file that made them--it is secreted in the McAfee program somehow...so I just killed the little SOB and replaced it with my old fave Zone Alarm.

It took a few days for the automatic learning feature of the Zone Alarm to acclimate to my browsing habits and then the alerts quieted down to nothing. Now I have the security I want, my computer is invisible on the Internet, the virus definitions are updated every hour on the hour, and best of all I have a full rebate coming in the mail. Highly recommended.

crashed my streaming vids and audio, can't download

Pros: used it for years

Cons: stopped streaming and downloading

Review: i've used the product for years, and it had been ok- BUT- i just updated to this version 2 days ago, and it instantly blocked my ability for streaming video, and streaming audio (ie espn/cnn/pandora radio). you also can't download files. lowering the security settings doesn't fix it- the only way to see whole vids (like the cnet ones) is to shutdown the system entirely. i want a refund, or the old system back. tech support has been slow.

Worst software I've ever used

Pros: Nice-looking interface

Cons: Difficult install, rendered computer almost useless

Review: I had nothing but problems with this. First problem was installing. Finally had to uninstall previous version but wish I hadn't. After installing, I got nothing but error messages saying various programs had to shut down. With each e-mail from ZA's tech support (no phone support except by paying-ridiculous) the problems got worse. Finally got an e-mail saying ZA was aware of the problems and I should download a different version. By that point I had already performed a clean uninstall and gone back to the Norton Internet Security that came with the computer. I'll be purchasing the new version of NIS later today. How did CNET editors give this an 8.0? From now on, I'll be taking all CNET reviews with a grain of salt. Actually, make it a whole shaker-full.

A very good security suite.

Pros: Easy user interface, reliable firewall and anti-virus/anti-spyware + free upgrades for 1 year which include not only database updates, but entire program updates if available.

Cons: Can be difficult to stop a scan that is already in progress on a slower PC. Cheaper to buy new version at Amazon than to renew license through Zone Alarm.

Review: I have the up to 3 user version which I have been running for almost 1 year now on two PC's. This software suite will appeal to novices and experts alike as you can use the easy preset settings, or customize it to your own preferences. I am very satisfied with Zone Alarm's performance and have already ordered the new version from Amazon since my current license expires in 20 days.

I have lost all respect for CNET for recommending this garbage

Pros: Nothing at all

Cons: Slows system to a crawl. Can't deal with multiple users.

Review: I bought this product because I was unhappy with the McAfee suite. After giving Zone Alarm ISS 2 months, I'm yearning for the simple issues that McAffee presented (such as the constant verifying of my subscription and the clunkiness of the firewall user settings).

The bottom line is that ever since I installed this program, it has taken 3-4 times longer to boot up my PC (AMD X2 4400+ with 2GB RAM and Windows XP Pro). Web pages tend to load excruciatingly slow, and some links don't work at all (no message or alert, you just click and see nothing happen). To give you an example, I had to shutdown the application just to complete this form, since it blocked the rating button!

Even more frustrating is the fact that it takes as much as 10 minutes to switch users or restore my session when the PC goes into screen saver mode. It also takes significanlty longer to shut down.

This is an absolutely terrible product, and CNET should be ashamed of themselves for recommending it. From now on I will trust the user reviews and not the editors'.

This bloated crapware makes McAfee look elegant

Pros: effective protection

Cons: slow downs & freeze ups on XP and Vista

Review: Was using McAfee 10; not too bloated and just payed for DAT file subscription, since 11 appears to be bloatware. Got new laptop w/ Vista, and had to either go to McAfee 11 or other. Research pointed me to ZA Suite due to effective virus detection, and liked the free ZA firewall I've been using for several years. Now with a 3 pc license for ZA Suite, both XP desktop and new Vista laptop will have fits of slowing - or flat out freeze ups. Unacceptable performance. Back to McAfee 10 on the XP desktop; not sure what I'll do about the laptop. $50 thrown down the drain; thanks for nothing, ZoneAlarm.

ZA Internet Security seems to have been hacked

Pros: faster than a locomotive

Cons: As effective as soap bullets

Review: I found it difficult, not impossible to navigate and setup. The problem was that the settings I put in somehow "drifted away." ZA let in too much SPAM, to many SCAMs, and two (2) viruses that terminated functionality of my computer. I had to re-partition and re-format my hard drive twice in less than 100 days. I finally dumped ZA with 264 days left on my contract. My BIG problem with ZA is that it is almost impossible to get to customer service or tech support and when you do get through there is nobody to talk to.

Updated on Nov 24, 2008

I don't know why I stick with ZA. I'm on versiion 8+ now (11/2008). It still sux. I enter email addresses I want to allow and to block. The lists are blank in as soon as the next boot-up. sometimes they last a week. Same for websites I put on the "block" and "allowed" lists. My settings disappear, letting SPAM, and malware in that deletes or changes files AND DATA. Report this to Checkpoint/ZoneLabs? Just try it. There ain't no way!

THE WORST UPGRADE - SADLY

Pros: None, the new version is awful

Cons: Slows your machine, crashes, bad customer service

Review: ZoneAlarm, previously ZoneLabs, HAD the best software to protect your machine. However, when I renewed my license and upgraded to their latest version a few days ago everything went down.
The software is full of flaws. You need to have the manual with you to do a simply web surfing. Their customer service is poor (to be polite) and the worst if you have to pay extra for a phone call to get solutions.
I uninstalled the program and asked for my money back.
Sad, it really was the best, now between the worst.

Danger! do not buy!

Pros: No way to tell made my computer crash

Cons: System Crash with Vista and little support

Review: After the instal I got the blue screen of death! I am on on a different computer due to Zone Alarm and lack of support!
What do you do when you get the blue screen that says Collecting data for crash dump! You try to get support from the vendor ... What do you do when the vendor only offers Q and A support with no real people. You find the next support level With ZA that would be Email. Then you wait 5 to 7 working days for a responce. IS this a good buy? I dont think so. Also the crash dump is only one of 5 other problems DONT BUY ZA

Very Disappointing!

Pros: None I can honestly think of.

Cons: Too many to try and list.

Review: This product has been nothing but trouble. At first, everything was fine, install straight forward, and easy to use. Shortly after install, my computer would freeze up during logging on/off and restart and take forever for it to finally do the task. I honestly thought it was my computer or a virus...until I started troubleshooting. After an exhaustive troubleshooting adventure (which actually helped improve the performance), I found the problem to be with the ZoneAlarm software. Long story short, I had to uninstall it completely and us another security software trial install in order to use my computer and use it safely.

On the positive side, I was refunded fully with very little trouble.

Bottomline- DO NOT BUY THIS SOFTWARE!!!!

Suberb intergrated suite

Pros: Ease of install & configure; unobtrusive; accurate; well-priced

Cons: None of merit - wish they had included ESET's NOD32 for AV (top-rated) instead of very good Kapersky AV

Review: When my hard disk failed on my T43, I installed a new, larger disk and reinstalled the system from scratch using Windows Vista Busines. I decided to replace the hard to use Norton Internet Security suite I had been using with the best I could find.

After extensive research, I chose ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 7. I also chose ESET's NOD32 Anti-Virus, as I really wanted "best in class" security.

After first installing NOD32 (which is also a great product), I then installed ZA. The installation went flawlessly, automatically recognizing I had another AV program installed.

ZA first operated in "Auto Learn" mode for 7 days, then switches to a more secure mode. You are given the choice of continuing Auto Learn mode for another period, if you like, at any time.

I've used ZA in my home network, and while travelling, using everything from public WiFis to hotel LANs. Intrusions have been detected and dealt with seamlessly, with no false positives.

I highly recommend this product. Note: The included Kapersky AV is itself an excellent AV product, and one that most would be satisfied with. I simply chose ESET as it has been rated slightly higher than Kapersky.

Huge CPU drain!

Pros: good security (as far as I know)

Cons: spindle runs continuously because of high CPU usage

Review: I've installed and uninstalled this program on my Inspiron 1150 twice now. The first time it took me a while to realize that it was the software making my computer sound like an airplane that was about to take off- the spindle was running so fast and so long! The moment I turned off the program, the computer went back to being 'normal'. Everything ran SO sluggishly while this was installed. I now just run a FREE anti-virus download (AVG) and am more diligent about running Spybot Search and Destroy.

I bought this product based on the high rating from the Editors at CNET, but I guess everyone makes mistakes!

READ THIS BEFORE YOU BUY!

Pros: Tech staff actually DID get back to me, contrary to some of the things I had read. Also uninstalls cleanly, which is nice, because you will want to uninstall.

Cons: DOES NOT WORK WITH XP

Review: I depend on CNET reviews & don't know why they didn't catch this, but this software is incompatible with XPSP2 if you have defined multiple user accounts as Microsoft and others recommend for security.

If you install this software, then logoff, "fast user switching," recovering the desktop from "sleep mode" and shutting down the computer all become unacceptably slow - by this I mean more than FIVE FULL MINUTES. You will be forced, as I have, to uninstall.

Zone Labs' tech support had no solution to this and astoundingly said that they don't recommend using the software in a multiuser configuration. Perhaps they should mention this on their website, where they claim compatibility with XP.

The customer support rep sounded unsurprised when I requested my refund.

I hope this helps other people from making the same mistake I made. As for CNET Editors - please get on the ball - a lot of people depend on you for honest and thorough reviews. You should have identified these issues.

Good luck, Vista owner

Pros: Great Product....little bit of deception on the website

Cons: No ID protection (FREE offer)

Review: ATTN: Vista owners. the FREE ID Protection isn't available for you. The Zone Alarm site FAILS to mention that. So, your $5o friggin dollars will buy you a whole hell of a lot less than the XP folks get.
Hey, ZONE ALARM...don't be a lie phish site. Fix your ambiguous explanations and quit selling a product that isn't ready. Who do you think you are, Microsoft?

If you really need security this is it.

Pros: Firewall is legendary, ease of use.

Cons: Not sure of the quality of the antivirus yet.

Review: Had a huge problem with hackers, they went through my Norton firewall eventually and got to two other computers on my network. One was a Mac the other had McAfee as a firewall. After using this product I can tell why the nerd that I talked to about my issue for 30min recomended this.

Not as good as I thought it would be

Pros: Nice features

Cons: Feezes all the time requiring HORRID uninstall/reinstall procedures

Review: Although the product does the job when it's working, it often freezes the system. If ZoneAlarm freezes, one needs to go through a horrendous uninstall/reinstall procedure that requires 2 boots in Safe Mode and 3 boots to bring it up and update the Anti-Virus/Anti-Spyware definitions. It's the Anti-Virus part of ZoneAlarm that causes the problem. The last time my system froze, even the uninstall/reinstall procedure didn't work. After trying several times, I finally downloaded AVG free for my Anti-Virus protection and am running ZoneAlarm with its Anti-Virus turned off. So, bottom line, I've paid for something I can't use.

Best Product possible

Pros: everything

Cons: its giving norton a run for their money

Review: I just don't understand what has got into these
people. How can they complain about aproduct that is so perfect... I mean its got almost everything u need... one of the best AVs,excellent spyware detection ,cool IM protection, parental lock is excellent(i don't have children but it does help against others who use my laptop), and what can i say abt its
firewall. Only thing is that u need to know how to tweak its settings for optimum performance. Also one can use it alongside prevx for added protection.

The best of all the ISS's

Pros: Ease of use; not a resource hog

Cons: slight lag on startup

Review: After suffering with the resource hog McAfee for too long, I decided it was time for a new ISS. I installed and "test drove" Norton, Bit Defender, Kaspersky, CA, and Panda's ISS's along with ZASS. After trying them all, and with $ being no object, I decided to put ZASS 7.0 on all three of my machines.

Installation was a breeze even after having all of these other applications loaded and removed. Six months later, and other that a slight lag during startup when the software is checking for updates, and I have no complaints at all.

Additionally, I have had no problems using my additional spyware apps (Ad Aware & Spybot S&D) in concert with ZASS.

I would highly recommend ZASS to anyone.

ZoneAlarm ISS 7 is simply fantastic

Pros: Effective, Smart & Easy to Use

Cons: Trial version renders your PC sluggish during booting

Review: I purchased this product after reading the editor's review. I was disappointed at first when running the trial version. This was because it considerably increased the booting time of my notebook by somewhere around 5 minutes to forever. This was not mentioned on the Editor's review.

I hesistated before purchasing the licence. I'm glad I purchase it at last, although, it still slows down my notebook during booting, not as bad as the trial. I think I can live with this bench marking it with the functions it performs.

I'll recommend this product, any time, any day.

Excellent Protection

Pros: light, fast, secure

Cons: confliction with other anti virus programs

Review: I have had the security suite for almost a year now and so far have found no faults what so ever.the antivirus runs silently in the background and so far the firewall has blocked 4702 intrusions. the im security may be useless for msn live but its still good for yahoo etc. And the e-mail security fits nicely into outlook and filters junk and dangerous e-mail flawlessley.

Huge improvement over McAfee and Norton

Pros: Very fast, catches lots of items

Cons: Often asks to reboot after updates and is sometimes too sensitive

Review: After years of using Norton or McAfee, I was fed up by the incredible load time lag and both programs inability to clear a virus off of my laptop. After trying several other programs, ZoneAlarm was the most effective at cleaning my computer of the virus for good. It loads quickly and works well in the background. Sometimes it's too sensitive - where it often asks me to quarantine P2P programs, but I'd prefer it to be more sensitive rather than less. Also it likes to request reboots fairly frequently (every few days), but I can live with that too.

The program installed easily and quickly onto two thinkpads. One is 4 years old, and the other is less than a year old.

Pros: crashes you r computer 110%

Cons: real bad support

Review: purchased Internet Security Suite 7 believing that no problem should come up since it is editor's choice..... BUZZZZZZZZ.... after install, a loop starts booting the machine forever !!!!!!!!! After starting up on safe mode and uninstalling everything is back to normal.
Just got Kaspersky suite 6 and no problem at all !!!!

One desktop and one laptop ruined.

Pros: Seemed to block all intrusions.

Cons: Extremely resource hungry.

Review: Well. I have been using ZA since version 4 and have upgraded to the newest ones every time. However, many Blue screens later and complete loss of data and many hours of frustration I will never use ZA products again. Luckily my laptop was still under warranty and they sent me a new hardrive. Desktop had to be reformatted.

Resource heavy. Made my computer come to a crawl. I will be taking my chances with Norton Internet Security 2007. Supposedly rewritten code and light on resources.

I wish luck to all those who dare to install this on their machines. One suggestion back up all of the important stuff, before you do.

First Impression

Pros: Easy install

Cons: Slow virus checking

Review: First impression: Loaded ver 6 for the first time - no problem. Ver. 7 download appeared within a few minutes. Ran ver. 7 - no problem. Virus disk checking runs a little slow but don't they all. By moving your mouse over the activity icon on the tool bar it tells you that it is updating the virus file. No crashes - so far - on a Dell laptop 600m with XP home.

Best Overall Suite

Pros: Great Virus protection at low cost

Cons: none really

Review: I have tried several security suites over the years and zone alarm has been the best by far. The kasperksy virus protection is second to none and the firewall is great as well. I just bought this system in the last month and have not experienced any of the problem listed by other users . . perhaps the newest updates have solved these issues . .in any case I highly recommend the product.

version 7 crashed my PC

Pros: None version 7 stinks

Cons: version 7 is unstable

Review: I upgraded from version 6.5 and had nothing but troubles. Tech support was no help, except to tell me to revert to 6.5 version. I tried multiple clean uninstalls and re-installs. The final insult came when tech support said they could not find record of my registration (which I had absolutely done legitimately for version 6.5). I gave up! Life is too short to deal with poor products and worse support.

Was a good product until I upgraded to Windows Vista

Pros: Great product for Window XP works well the firewall and antivirus are flawless

Cons: They said was Vista ready......NOT the case still beta testing for Vista

Review: I have used Zone Alarm Security Suite for 2 years and just re-newed my license a few months ago thinking I would be able to use with Vista. Boy was I in for a surprise. Zone Alarm is NOT Vista ready. When asked Zone Alarm can't tell you when they are going to be Vista ready. They are beta testing but from what I have read on Zone Alarm's chat there are still lots of problems to be worked out.
Zone Alarm will not refund my remaining 9 months of my current license. So now I have to buy a different Internet Security Product that is Vista ready.

Buyer Beware!

Pros: None are left

Cons: Garbage in, garbade stay - Wha' happen?

Review: I WAS a long term ZA fan- always considered it bullet-proof, relied on it without hesitation. Then along comes Check Point. From the very 1st zasetup update under Check Point, ZA has shown itself to be totally unreliable & irreparable. After 6 straight weeks of escalating frustration trying to deal with tech service I've given up. All they've done is say "do A", then "do B", then "do C", then "do B", then "do A".... going back and forth, running you around in circles. I finally got the message. They could care less about providing actual help to solve a multitude of problems- chief amoung them the main vsmon.exe constantly bombing - in favor of constantly denying the lastest zasetup file is obviously corrupt. I uninstalled (in at least 4 different ways) and reinstalled only to have it bomb yet again until I'm blue in the face. Cnet needs to go back and take a harder look at this product. I wish I hadn't trusted their editor's pick on Norton 360 which is proving to be even worse. I'm taking my research elsewhere.

Are there any ratings below ONE?

Pros: I get to format my drive again

Cons: I have to format my drive again

Review: Ive been a Zone Alarm fan for so long I cant remember, maybe from the first day. It worked so well there was no reason to consider anything else. After about version 6.5, or lets say when Checkpoint changed the company logo, something happened and it became the worst crap ever. During months of March, April and May, this crashing trash caused me to re-format my drive 5 times and today i have to do it again. Computer Associates makes the identical product and I thought I was being so smart by dropping ZA and trying CA and lo and behold, the CA product is even worse and completely goofed my laptop from A-Z. With this version of ZA, I had error messages about things i didnt even know you could have error messages about and it couldnt even manage its own intra-lan permissions, not to mention external ones. The "vector service" which is the core of ZA constantly stops and causes crashing in all the components it touches. For example, after having granted permission for ZA to allow Active Sync connections to my PDA, one by one the Active Sync drivers (the most current versions) start crashing. Whether you give full, partial or no permissions to any software, whether its LAN or WAN, ZA's dismal behavior is the same. This is exactly the type of thing that never happened with earlier versions of ZA. I even tried going back to SP1 on WinXP and that didnt help, and i never ran any competing software (firewall or anti-virus) at the same time. I dont know whats next but ZA has lost me for good. SAD!

Never a problem

Pros: Works with no problems

Cons: none found yet

Review: I have used ZA for many years, and have used ZASS for the last few. Yes it did have its occasional problems, but lately those problems have been ironed out. I have recently installed the new version, due to the old subscription expiring. It works fine and I have not experienced any of the problems I have read. I am glad it works fine still, due to the problem I have had with many of the other Security Suites (Trend Micro, Norton, McAfee and KAS Security Suite-due to firewall).
Updated
After using ZASS7 since the time I wrote my prior review, I am receiving various types of error boxes popping up. I noticed that I am unable to check my outlook express mail, when the antivirus scanner is working-because it will popup a outlook express error box and the mail box will close. If I try to surf the web when the scanner is working, I will also receive an error box, with some unrecognizable numbers/letter configuration from ZA and the AV scanner will stop at the file which is being scanned and the timer will continue working. The scanner timer will continue but the scanner will not. The only way to override this is to shut the scan down and start all over. Due to this and other strange behavior errors, I will be uninstalling this Brother of Norton!

Don't install 7.0; Keep version 6.5.

Pros: None really. Used to be a good product until version 7.0.

Cons: Switching to Kaspersky antivirus messed up Zone Alarm

Review: I have been with Zone Alarm for years. I have not had any major problems. In March, 2007 I updated to Zone Alarm 7.0 from 6.5 on three home computers:
My wife's computer with 2000 Pro OS died shortly after installing 7.0 so I figured she did something wrong. She is now using windows firewall and another anti-virus.

My laptop with XP Pro did not work correctly after installing 7.0 and I did the removal of all files as an email from Zone Labs directed and it finally works, but only after many hours of trying to figure out the various problems.

I installed 7.0 on my Desktop with XP Home and it kept rebooting after logging on. In safe mode I uninstalled Zone Alarm and it worked fine. After re-installing Version 7.0, I could log on only as a "Guest" first, and then switch to my user name, but not all programs functioned.

After numerous wasted hours and many emails to tech support finally a Zone Labs Tech called me. It still took three weeks for him to figure out what to do. After doing a clean uninstall, I was told to go back to 6.5. I did, and now my computer works fine again.
Moral: Stay away from updating to version 7.0. Stick with 6.5. The anti-virus and anti-spyware is still being supported so you can still use 6.5.

Superior product

Pros: Seamless, comprehensive, reliable product

Cons: Inexperienced users may find it overwhelming to learn what to allow or deny

Review: I've been a dedicated user of Zone Alarm for several years. In 2005, I upgraded to Zone Alarm Pro. However, in the past two years, the antivirus and anti-spyware which I had also been using for several years, namely: Norton Antivirus/Symantec eventually morphed into releases which became totally incompatible with Zone Alarm. My computer eventually grinded from a slow crawl to a frozen state. I was certain there was something infecting my computer.

I researched and read all users' reviews of various security software products. I made my decision: The cumbersome Symantec software had to go! I uninstalled it from my hard drive. I downloaded Zone Alarm Security Suite.

"What a relief to have total and seamless Security for all aspects in one product! Thankfully, Zone Alarm Suite also found and quarantined 4 trojans which I was able to delete that had been undiscovered and untreated by the previous, anti-virus software I had been using. My computer was now back up to operating at lightening speed!"

There was just one small, frustrating bug. After installation, my internet explorer inexplicably was unable display any zonealarm.com or zonelab.com web pages. This was very strange because those were the only two websites that it wouldn't display. Well, it took just a matter of hours after contacting Zone Alarm for their techs to resolve the minor problem! Thank you for such excellent technical support!

Zone Alarm proves once again to be the superior product. My computer and I are both "happy" and secure again.

Ruined my Windows XP System

Pros: There are none.

Cons: Terrible Product and terrible Support

Review: Beware, this software is a big headache. I have been a registured user of Zone Alarm Security Suite 6.5 for over 6 months when a critical update to 7.0 popup came up on my PC. I allowed Zone Alarm to update and it totally ruined my operating system. The update crippled my PC. Nothing would run and all internet conectivity was lost. I unable to fully remove the update or the entire program. This update rendered my system totally useless. It was obvious this update had not been totally tested before the rush to release and the impact has been very frustrating! Tech support is by email only unless you want to pay $2.99 a minute. Tech Support has been overloaded with requests for help and it's been over 6 weeks since the update and my problem was never resolved. My only solution to this terrible product was a reformat of the hard drive. Myself like so many others have been unable to get this software totally removed from the PC.

Honestly, the most secure my computer has ever been.

Pros: A very complete security suite, that really really works.

Cons: It slows down start-up times, some programs, and sometimes the internet. But nothing that can not be fixed with the changing of a setting or two.

Review: I have been using Norton Internet Security for nearly 7 years. I never got a virus that crashed my computer that Norton couldnt fix or repair. I thought id be using it forever until I read that ZoneAlarm started using the Kapersky engine, so i gave it a try.
I can honestly say that i surf some not so safe sites on the internet and this security suite blows Norton out of the water. It will catch the virus' and trojans, and or worms before they get into my computer; where Norton only would fix up the mess they left behind after getting through.
There are soo many features of protection this program is soo very complete. I love it, i really do.
No offense... but to the people who think it is not so good of a program, or think it causes problems, those people have set it up wrong, have conflicting scanners already running, or simply dont know what portions of the program to disable under certain circumstances to allow the users ability to do certain things or use certain programs that ZA will not allow under default settings.
Learn this suite and how to truly use it and you will be fully satisfied with its tremendous protection and loads of useful programs including an operating system firewall underneath the internet wall, for mutiple layers of protection. And its detection of virus' and such is second to none! faster than any ive ever used.
Truly Awesome.
Updated
I wanted to add that before installing any new anti-virus you must uninstall any previous one you might of had. Also make sure your system is somewhat up to date with adequate memory. And use the help button in the corner of the interface to learn what the different areas of the suite provide and gaurd against. You will find out why different things may no longer run on your computer, especially ones that try and interface with the internet. If you do all this, you to will understand and see how good a program this really is. The CNET Editors would not have given it such high regards if it was as lame as some of the users opinions seem to suggest.

Version 7 is bloatware

Pros: Easy to use

Cons: Slows the computer; Slows bootup; Nagging messages

Review: I've used ZoneAlarm for years but it's just as bloated now as Norton's suite. It slows even my Core 2 Duo laptop at boot and while running other software. It constantly nags at you about the same software loading over and over again even if you tell it it's OK and check the little box that tell it to remember the setting. It seems to forget these settings every time it updates itself. Anyway There's better software at a cheaper prices that any of the major suites listed here.

Stay away from upgrading, stick with old version

Pros: Great Firewall, Great Customer Support

Cons: AntiVirus caused my system to fail on startup

Review: I recently had the older 6.5 version, which was excellent. Everything was great until I upgraded to version 7. At that point, my system continuously restarted and had blue screens. I determined it was the AntiVirus module. When I disabled the AntiVirus, everything worked fine. I called Customer Support and we troubleshooted via email and phone for several weeks and were unable to fix the issue. I am getting a refund. I do see myself buying another product from them in the future... just not anytime soon. However, I must admit, Customer Support was top notch and provided me with the best support I have ever received..

Great product, don't be fooled by the bad reviews

Pros: Fast scan time, excellent anti-spam, clean interface

Cons: Requires basic knowledge of PC to install properly

Review: Of all the products I've tried, except for Norton 360 which, overall, I would rate slightly lower due to its purposeful design to "mask" the underlying processes it runs to keep a PC safe and secure, ZoneAlarm Security Suite 7 has been the most stable product I've tried. For some reason, both Zonealarm and Norton 360 seem to cause an occasional conflict with Outlook: ZASS had an issue with the antispam (MailFrontier) "mailbuddy addin" and Norton 360 occasionally would cause the send/receive to stop, but these are minor problems. The negative reviews of either product, I'm convinced, are either due to basic lack of understanding with installing and maintaining a PC properly, or installing into a "messed up" PC and expecting it to do more than it was designed to do.

Didn't work too many times

Pros: Looks nice

Cons: Doesn't like CAB files, halts; ssllooww!

Review: After re-installing the sw at least 3 times on 1 pc, went back to V6.X which works. Finally had to take other 2 pcs back to V6.5 for the protection I paid for.

ZA worked with me, but to no success. Told them am using V6.X. Waiting for improvements to try again.

Extremely buggy

Pros: absolutely nothing

Cons: Blew up two computers.. isn't that enough

Review: Put it on my laptop. 7.x immediately caused such major problems I uninstalled it. With difficulty. I could NOT reinstall a 6.x verison and I refuse to format a computer over this. Good bye paid ZA on this one [and free] I tried it on a desk top that had more more traditional settings. It immediately caused exactly the same problems. Tried to uninstall. Had to go into safe mode and strip by hand. Finally got it off right? No. I could not get 6.x to install. Tried the support. PAID PRO mind you. None just a I don't know what is wrong with your computer. Currently Outpost Firewall is running very well and I plan on keeping it. After years of ZA, I will NEVER install another on my computer. Outpost also is much easier to use compared to ZA. The other half who never understood ZA can understand Outpost. ZA loses hands down.

ZoneAlarm is a buggy software

Pros: Interface, Gaming Mode best firewall

Cons: Still lots of bugs in Version 7

Review: Problems:
1) System hangs when I try to restart.
2) Constantly telling me that Anti-virus database is not up-to-date.
3) Problem using Windows Live Messenger (though this problem is fixed in last patch)

Clearly quality of this product has degraded since Version 7. I don't ZA developer fixing these serious problem fast enough to satisfy their customers.

Once my subscription expires I will look for another Internet Security Suite.

It meets my requirements.

Pros: It does it all.

Cons: Cost per user.

Review: I got it with a 5 user license for $49.95 with my ZoneAlarm Router. So my cost per user is very low, but if you buy it by itself it would be much higher.

Like I said above "It does it all." And when used with the ZoneAlarm Router, it does it even better.

What Happened in ZoneAlarm 7??

Pros: Good Price

Cons: Multiple Errors, reboot in Safe Mode required to remove.

Review: I have to believe that ZoneAlarm 7 was not fully tested before release. I mean, the same thing happened when ZoneAlarm 6 was released and I am reading the same lousy reviews and the same lousy "fixes" as I did then. What ever happened to thorough testing before the update to 7? 6.5 runs very well, but here we go again with all these "What you NEED to do to fix this is..........." Sorry but that's BS. If you love the working version of ZA 6 then stay with it. Do NOT upgrade when offered for another few months. Subscription almost up? No problem, just go to e-bay and buy a new copy of ZA 6 and get a new key! In a few months the "public" will have completed all of the Beta Testing and ZA will be fixed. Just be patient?!!

Poor No Vista - No XP

Pros: A one time great product

Cons: Poor today - No Vista - Poor Xp

Review: I am a long time user and fan of their products, but they have boffed this one big time. They are the last security suite not ready for Vista - you will have to look real hard to see this little fact disclosed on their website. And their Internet Suite 7 is bringing not all but many XP users to a slow crawl. New users - are you ready to play the performance lottery? That describes the situation with my two machines; one Vista and one XP. Both needing to look for protection elsewhere even though I have valid licenses with Checkpoint. I am so happy I took them up on their pre-Vista and1 scam sale offer.

The inclusion of Kapersky in v7.0.337 ruined what used to be good software.

Pros: Good security, easy enough to use

Cons: Destroys PC performance, advanced options not easy

Review: Two years ago I carefully selected ZoneAlarm for its security level, speed and usability, and it always worked fine until the Kapersky engine was included in the recent upgrade to v7.0.337. Now I am on the lookout for another security suite.

The upgrade installation failed first and then refused to recognise my licence. After a clean reinstall as instructed by the ZA helpdesk all settings were gone. Then my pc's performance became abysmal, on the level of doing graphics on a 286 machine, if you remember. Two instances of Scanningprocess.exe and a few other processes often keep the processor so busy that the PC becomes extremely slow. After waking the PC up from hybernation mode ZA has to be restarted because it will refuse to allow the browser to connect with the internet.

All in all ZA without Kapersky was what you are looking for in a security suite, but with Kapersky it is a suite I will replace when my licence expires next month.

Pros: There are no pros to this product as it destroyed some of my programs.

Cons: Everything about it!

Review: I downloaded this product because it got such a good rating on this site but I have no idea who tested the product but they should be out of a job. This product is nothing more than a virus itself. It destroyed some of my programs and you can't even delete the whole product. It still leaves its tracks behind. Past version better

Pros: Easy to Use

Cons: Spam Filters Locks up Outlook Express

Review: I have been using Zone Alarm now for 3 years and have liked it much better than Norton. It is easier to use and less expensive.

However after I installed Version 7 my Outlook express would lockup when I tried to Reply to a message. I emailed ZA and still have not received a responce ( 2weeks). I found on there board that the Spam Filter was the problem. I turned that off and now Pulook Express works correctly.

This has now been over 3 weeks since I upgraded and they have still not fixed the problem.

I am now thinking of switching to another product.

Cons: Crashes XP media Center 2004

Review: Had Trend Micro PC-Cillin for 2 years - read reviews of new software and bought Zone Alarm. Had nothing but problems (I have had Microsoft computers since 1986) - crashing, hangs, weird behavior - I fooled at length with the settings and finally gave up. Poorly supported and troublesome

Pros: When it works it works

Cons: Slow service response; poor support; troublesome upgrades

Review: I used Zone Alarm for years, and then suddenly an "upgrade" cause my system performance to suffer considerably. The program behaved like a virus, stealing enormous CPU and refusing to shut down. I found hundreds of references to this issue on the Internet, indicating this is a common problem. Despite it being common, ZA tech support took five days to respond, and their solution was a 27-step process that included monkeying with registry edits. Very unhappy with their dedication to preventing problems and providing adequate support.

Not a consumer-friendly product

Pros: Good overall program

Cons: Not for people who don't work in the IT industry

Review: The product is very effective apparently but has a very poor user interface. Lots of bells and whistles, little explanation regarding what they do or why they matter. The product prompted for an upgrade and has proceeded to hang up inexplicably. Phone support is a for-fee service and the internet support is automated. I will be receiving an email response in 3 to 4 days.
If this product wants to reach a wider customer base I would recommend they broaden their design team to include customer-oriented people to effectively translate the product for the vast majority of users.

It's ZA alright, but not checkpoint

Pros: Great protection, obviously, I mean it is ZA.

Cons: CHECKPOINT?!

Review: I am still in shock that ZoneLabs sold some of the best security software out there to such a mediocre company (no offense CheckPoint). It's just that I feel CheckPoint may not be able to keep up with the extremely high expectations that everyone has to come of ZA. That's Like Regis Philbin trying to fill Ashton Kutcher's shoes. I mean come on, think about it.

Review: Prior to upgrading from v6.0 to v7.0, I would of agreed with the vast number of users that rated this software very highly. I am running ZA ISS on two different computers at my home office, and decided to upgrade to v7.0 as recommended by the solution.

One system had no difficulties in upgrading. I performed a clean installation without any outstanding issues. The second system I upgraded experienced multiple problems on installation. In my opinion, the measure of a solution is not when things are going well but how the company supports its products when problems arise. This is where ZoneAlarm fails utterly.

Users are primarily given three (3) options for technical support. The user forums, email support which has a two (2) day turn around, and "premium" telephone support for $2.95/min billed to your credit card. So, in order to get reliable support from a ZA representative in an expedient manner, you need to be willing to spend more money for the support than the cost of the software.

Premium telephone support was not an option for me simply on principle, so I attempted to resolve my issue by searching the forums, which I found to be tedious and inadequate .. but what else did I have to do while waiting two (2) days for a ZA technical support individual to contact me and initiate a game of email tag?

As one of the myriad of posters on the ZoneAlarm forums on the upgrade issue, I have given up. I will stick with v6.0 until I have another issue or it is no longer supported. At that time, I will evaluate other Internet Security providers and choose one with a more favorable customer support model.

Unprofessional

Pros: When it works -- it works well. Not as resource intensive as Norton.

Cons: Unable to fix long standing problems, rediculous customer service -- and you have to pay for it!

Review: I switched from Norton to 6.5 last year. Looked good aat first but it would not update the anti-virus. Contacted customer service and went through a series of steps that did not work.

On THEIR message boards were people with the same exact problem who were hopelessly looking for answers. Apparently ZA is not or cannot find answers. They told me to call Microsoft.

The Microsoft tech laughed when I told him the story and he fixed the problem. Now a few weeks ago I unwittingly upgrade to 7.0 and the problem reappears.

ZA tech has provided 7 solutions that do not work. I am giving them one more chance then it's back to Norton (ugghh).

Buyer beware.

Poor performance indicators

Pros: Nice menus

Cons: Never know if it is 100% active

Review: Conflicts with Windows Security. WS says no Firewall & no Antivirus present. ZA says they fixed this, but really the patch just turned off the Windows alerts. I brought this to ZA's attention 3 days ago after ZA misteriously uninstalled itself on startup one morning. I still am not confident that I have adequate Firewall or AV protection.
Try another product that gives more assurances.

Best security suite on the market

Pros: Excellent firewall protection, user-friendly customization

Cons: Email protection quirky

Review: I have been a Zone Alarm Pro user for several years and found it to offer excellent protection. I ugraded to ZA SS 7.0 last year and recently to 7.0.337.000. Firewall protection is superior, customization is reasonably easy to follow and the help file and especially the User Forum offer great solutions. I hope more features Kaspersky anti-virus will be added in the future.
I think the MailFrontier and Outlook marriage needs a little work. Outlook still quarantines some email and I would prefer to leave to MailFrontier. Also when I high-light single quarantined email and click "Allow Sender's Company" MailFrontier applies the feature to unmarked junk mail as well. Quirky! For the most part, however, the email security does a good job, although the "allowed" and "block" list features could be refined in the preferences section/
Zone Alarm Security Suite gets my highest recommendation.

Best overall protection

Pros: Superb Firewall and Anti-Virus

Cons: Good anti-spam - SmartDefender needs improvement

Review: We use all major company products - ZoneAlarm products are excellent, balanced, and more complete than any of the others. Since ZoneAlarm added the Kaspersky anti-virus engine it is the best bargain - much lower overall cost than Symantec. There is no better choice for top notch protection.

Pros: good overall

Cons: contains secuiry flaw

Review: i am currently using ZA version 7. It freeze my pc as well after installing it. But those who are keen to use the ZA 7 version on a temporary basis without getting there pc freezed. Here is the solution, after u install the ZA 7 version for the time, it will ask u to restart ur pc. when u pc runs again the software will run in normal operation, double click the ZA icon in the system tray. Go to OVERVIEW, Then to PRFERENCES, See below on the GENERAL section - (LOAD ZONE ALARM AT START UP) untick the check box. Restart ur Pc and the zone alarm 7 will not load automatically at start up, so u have to open it manually and then u can use the software and get connected with the internet. Hope u all find this useful.

Disappointed

Pros: great firewall, antivirus and antispam - easy to use interface

Cons: slow to scan system

Review: I used 6.5 without a problem but since I have installed 7.0 the antivirus scan errors out and shuts down ZoneAlarm. This is a problem when I schedule a scan and leave the computer running and connected via broadband. It leaves me vulnerable to attack. I have yet to get resolution from ZoneAlarm on this issue.

If it ain't broken why fix it?

Pros: None, don't upgrade

Cons: crashes with XP, freezes the computer not enough space for all

Review: For years I've been using Zone Alarm. My PC was fast when I tried to upgrade to 7.037, I remembered Microsoft's unnecessary upgrades, Norton Firewalls and my 282 computer. My Windows XP Pro ran slow... Apparently the autolearning process takes 20 days!!! I can't tell ZA 7 what I want. I tried it all. Nothing fixes the problem, nothing.
I agree with other users. ZoneAlarm 7 was released WAY too early.
This version is garbage.

ack! blue screen of death on w2k sp4 upgrade

Pros: Clean install on winxp, firewall works great

Cons: disapointed with ZoneLabs now

Review: Before my friend reported that his ZA 6.5 upgrade to ZA 7.0 was disastrous. Otherwise clean install went well on Win XP w/o any other protection software.

Unbelievably high score from CNET

Pros: Firewall is still okay, I guess

Cons: Absolutely everything else

Review: More than happy ZoneAlarm free user for quite some years now, decided to buy the ZA Security Suite almost six months ago. Although finnicky at times, it worked rather well. Until I downloaded the upgrade to 7 and installed it. Programs wouldn't run anymore, quitting with memory errors, after that my DVD-rom drives became unavailable to me (my computer saw them, but couldn't approach them). Then my network died. Again, recognized by my computer, but not approachable in any way. Then the lock-ups and blue screens came. Eventually I had to do a clean reinstall of XP. NO help from customer service (not a single reply). Beyond shameful. I'd never thought I'd say this, but I'd recommend anyone taking a chance with a nasty virus and spyware infection over using ZoneAlarm.

As I read on a ZoneAlarm user forum: the decline of a quality product to the current state of affairs is of mythological proportions.

For an idea about the magnitude of the problem, read a bit at http://forums.zonealarm.com/zonelabs/board?board.id=inst

Excellent security software!

Pros: Low use of system resources;finds viruses others missed; great firewall!

Cons: None found yet.

Review: I had previously used Zone Alarm Pro as my firewall and had Norton Systemworks for my anti-virus protection. After removing the anti-virus part of systemworks, I installed ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite.

The installation was smooth with no problems whatsoever. I then had it run a complete scan for viruses and spyware. It found 17 viruses and spyware issues that Norton had neglected to detect. My computer is running much smoother now and I have yet to have a single problem with Zone Alarm.

Great software!

This IS the BEST !!

Pros: Covers all the bases, with one product....minimal system impact

Cons: Startup scan takes a few minutes - but worth the wait.

Review: I've been using ZoneAlarm's Security Suite since it's first version (and ZoneAlarm's firewall for much longer). This product keeps getting better and better. The addition of Kapersky's AV makes the virus protection top notch and their upgraded spyware engine is the best spyware product out there.

I suspect that the BSOD people out there had a spyware/corrupt file issue that ZA caught and that may have caused their problem. Running this product on a variety of machines and conditions has NEVER caused me a problem, let alone a BSOD.

The only downside I see is that it does increase the initial boot time while it runs initial scans, but for me it is worth the extra time to know that I'm starting the day 'Clean'. ZoneAlarm is still TOPS on my list and rising!

Excellent protection

Pros: It works well and doesn't cause problems like some security suites

Cons: The antivirus scanning engine is a bit slow

Review: I bought Internet Security Suite 7 two weeks ago after having used the trial version for a couple of days. I had been a loyal Norton Antivirus customer for over 10 years, but NAV 2007 had caused my computer to lock up at least a dozen times a day.

I love this security suite. It gives you the most trusted name in dynamic firewall software, an operating system firewall, antivirus technology licensed from Kaspersky, antispyware and much, much more. I really like the fact that the antivirus and antispyware signatures are updated every hour.

So far, it has worked perfectly. The only thing I am a bit disappointed in is the antivirus scanning times. It seems a bit slower than Norton was, but it's still acceptable.

I bought ZAISS 7 around 5 months ago. I have actually only been able to use it for about the first 3 weeks. It started out fine, but with every revision and update that I've tried since, it became worse and worse.

It caused problems like making my computer take upwards of 5 minutes to boot up. The on-demand virus and spyware scans would crash all the time and never complete. The longer my computer was left on, the slower it became. I would click on an icon to launch a program and have to wait for up to a minute before it would start. Web browsing was painfully slow, even though I have a 7mb cable connection. The latest version causes my computer to take over 4 minutes just to shut down!

I really wanted to like this software, but it is hopeless. I went back to NAV 2007 4 months ago and everything has been fine. No more Zone Alarm products for me.

Excellent. Less problems than previos version but runs heavier

Pros: Better antivirus, but otherwise basically the same as the previous version.

Cons: ScanningProcess.exe.??? After installing, WSC detected no antivirus or firewall.

Review: ScanningProcess.exe.???? Why would a reputable company have a process associated with a Trojan with the same name? My task manager rates it as a potentially dangerous process. Although I can only find this process where it's supposed to be located & NOT where the Trojan hides, I can only assume the process is legit.

Having used ZASS for 2 years, this version detected 3 viruses on the initial scan. After using version 7 for two weeks, there've been no problems. This computer has only 256 mb ram with an old 1.8 processor & although ZASS 7 is more bloated, it hasn't really interfered with performance. It loads faster than version 6 at start up & seems to have less internet connection problems.

Effective, difficult to install, cpu resource hog

Pros: Good if succesfully installed

Cons: Installation crashes many systems help limited

Review: ZA was originally a small very efficient package. The founding company was purchased by Checkpoint who have vastly expanded the security suite. Not Zone Labs anymore.....

Pros: I can't name any anymore

Cons: Increased system requirements, terrible protection

Review: After the most recent update I noticed a change in the company...Then I noticed the proformance. I've had Zone Alarm for about 2 years, and it was the best firewall that I had tested. Compared to the others, it ran less processes and used less RAM while giving better protection and proformance than any other firewall out there. It was very streamlined. Used what it needed and didn't waste your system ram with 20 different processes using 100 megs of RAM. In my 2 years of having Zone Alarm I had collected only about 2-3 viruses, with a few spyware programs. Now its just as bad. Checkpoint has added useless processes that suck more of your ram. Have been getting more Trojans and Viruses, It still detects them, but they've already done there damage. Even when it picks up one and deletes it, the same trojan is back a few hours later. Only to have it tell you it deleted it. Not to mention the numerous PC lock-ups. This faithful customer is finding a new Firewall.

Great Product...Gone Bad

Pros: A Proven Past Performer

Cons: ZA - Just Didn't Get This One Right.....

Review: I have used Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite(s) for 4 years?until now. I use a Dell Inspiron 8600 notebook with Windows XP Pro. The latest ZA addition v7.xxx was very disappointing. After downloading this updated version I attempted to do an upgrade. The upgrade would not install because TrueVector would not shutdown. Called ZA tech support (for $2.95/minute) and was told that although they had a fix they were having problems with my ISP ? Road Runner recognizing their emails (with instructions) as spam???? Luckily, I have a second computer with a different ISP and was able to get the email on how to fix the problem (which was to remove all the ZA internet logs from the previous version). Had to do a complete install; and of course none of my settings were saved(bummer). To make a long story short...this new ZA v7.xxxx prevented programs from loading properly, caused hang-ups on start-up and was just a complete hassle to configure. Although, I can?t prove it, I believe the Kaspersky anti-virus program (since that?s the biggest change/addition to ZA) is the culprit. So, after a 4 year marriage, ZA and I are divorced. I?m now dating Norton 360 for the next 29 days and so far, so good.
Updated
I don?t how my first opinion was saved since I didn?t click on ?submit?. What?s up CNET??? Anyway here?s my write-up?.Rating =7
I ditched Zone Alarm (ZA) after 3 years upon the ZA 6.5 update. The so-called new enhancements slowed my system and would not allow programs to load. FYI, I?m using Windows XP Pro. I switched to Norton 360 which worked, but caused significant intermittent drain on resources. I ran N360 for 18 months and decided to try Kaspersky Anti-virus 7 (KA7). Besides causing major problems on start-up, it (KA7) doesn?t have a built-in firewall. Amazingly, KA7 recognizes that it may cause problems with your OS and recommends disabling the ?start at launch? feature thus requiring one to manually start the program?.get real!!
So I decided to Try ZA7 hoping that the bugs had been fixed. They were. ZA7 goes through a learning phase for 19 days. During that time start-up is slow. Afterwards things revert back to normal. Drain on resources is low so you can work without interruption. To get the most out of ZA7 you must spend time getting all the setting right. ZA7 is great for the experienced user, but may be a little frustrating for the novice or less patient.
Thus far I don?t have any major complaints with ZA7. It?s an effective program with great features for an ?all-in-one? security program. I recommend it, although Vista users may have a different opinion. I?m not switching to Vista until the release of SP1 or maybe SP2. So, I?m back with ZA?I just hope they don?t screw it up again with some weird update enhancement.

Messed up my system big time

Pros: All in one package

Cons: heavy on system resources

Review: After reading many reviews I upgraged from Zone Alarm Pro to Internet Security Suite what a disaster first of all it took about 6 goes to get it running as it refused to upgrade and kept reveting back to zone Pro (well know issue I have since found out)so after hours reading on the Zone labs site I finally got it to run after zapping all traces of my old licence key, and what a disaster as my system slowed to a crawl even the most basic of chores to an age now don't forget I had just upgraded so had expereinece of running Zone Pro and AVG together for many years with no problem, I just can't understand were the revewers get their results from becuse reality is far from lab results, so I have reverted back to Zone Pro and AVG and am currently waiting for a refund so i can renew Zone Pro,so a bad expreriece for me and a note to the reviewer you influenced me to try this software I wish you review had been good can I suggest you review it again this time with an open mind :)

Disappointing

Pros: Prettier than Version 6

Cons: Doesn't Work!

Review: I'm another disappointed user. Version 6 worked fine, "upgrading" to version 7 was a nightmare, costing me time and frustration. Tried to upgrade over the previous installation -- that didn't work. Tried a clean install -- problems there too. Finally had to uninstall the whole thing. Fortunately I had a copy of the previous version to reinstall -- seems to be working now. Stay away from Version 7 at all costs until the bugs are worked out

Nonexistent at times.

Pros: In depth forum for support.

Cons: Where to begin, where to begin...

Review: CNET, PC Mag, the high ratings and praise continue to pour in, but why? It was the ratings, honestly, that caused me to purchase and download - not one, but a THREE license copy of ZASS. I had used the free version ages ago back when I had dial up and a miserable 14.4 connection and it was fine. My how ZA fallen from grace. It's now ultra high maintenance and so riddled with problems it will KO the best of computers. I had thought that the Blue Screen of Death had become extinct, not so, ZA has brought it back from the grave. It's gone from a reliable and safe piece of software to an unlabeled Beta from a company who simply expects it's purchasers to discuss and make fixes on it's provided forum, willing or not.

What's possibly the worst yet, and should NEVER happen with your Internet security suite, the last program update was actually a VIRUS!!! ...and only admitted to and announced in the forums - without going there, I would have never known. The following update resulted in the software discovering ten virus on my PC ranging from trojan to worm. This, the PC I use for sensitive business! Unacceptable. Which I will conclude as my rating for this final evolutionary state of Zone Alarm. Four months in and unable to return for refund, I am forced to cut my losses and purchase another. I'll certainly do better research this time - including searching the message boards.

In my original opinion, I failed to mention that I not only found and read the forum, I did everything it said. I followed all of the instructions for a clean install, made all of the adjustments and configurations, etc. I've spent hours trying to make this work on a fairly new PC a two laptops over the last four months. The program simply doesn't work properly.

Useless, avoid at all costs.

Pros: Anti-spyware seems to find most concerning items, when it's running properly gives a patina of security.

Cons: Significant bugs and problems, AV incredibly slow, autoupdate crushes

Review: I am consistently surprised by the gap between CNET Editor ratings and the community ratings, particularly in the case of these complex security products.

The ZA suite was originally easy to install, seemed easy to customize to gaming, regular AV/AS updates, but soon became incredibly problematic. With the earlier versions (6.5) my computer would begin loading slower and slower, finally I had to spend hours searching the ZA forums to identify a solution (deleting the .rdb files), not a customer-friendly solution to the program destroying computing responsiveness.

Upon upgrading to 7.0, I'm experiencing similar problems. At startup, the computer will hang for an hour, the CPU Usage stuck at 50 - 60%, when the program updates it will again bring the computer to a standstill, making it unusable for anything else. The AV is incredibly slow, running 2.5 hours (during which the computer is not usable for much else) for 30k files.

In summary, this program is NOT ready for "primetime". Clearly the QA was not done with the necessary depth and the product shows it. My suggestion would be to avoid the "suites" (particularly this one) and find the less intrusive and less fussy programs that are stand-alones.

Excellent overall PC protection software

Pros: Firewall, antivirus, antispyware, ID protection all in one

Cons: No incoming mail scanning tab as they do outgoing mail

Review: I have been using ZoneAlarm for many years, but have only been using ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite for the past 7-8 months. I must say, I like the combined protection (antivirus, antispyware, ID protection and Firewall) features all location within one program. This makes it easy to monitor and setup those features as well ensures a degree of compatability.

After further tweaking, I dound that ZASS 7 does have incoming email scanning. This is an excellent product and the Internet Security Suite provides the best overall internet protection of any other product on the market. I am glad that I decided to give it a try. Triple coverage in one location...can't beat that!!

All the alarms those Mac vs. PC ads poke fun at

Pros: Doesn't slow down system as much as old Norton

Cons: Too damn many questions and alarms, like a pestering aunt

Review: This gets great ratings, but the software seems misinformed. That is, the firewall, spyware scanner, etc, respond and warn about what seem to be regular, standard actions of Windows XP...how do i know if this or that process is OK? That's why i bought this software in the first place. Please, just figure it out and leave me alone. And don't give me that techno-snob look of condescension--computers were supposed to free us from minutia, not bog us down in it. There are so many pop-up warnings on Zone Alarm that I worry I'll accidentally approve Spy-Matic Wallet-Suck spyware out of fatigue from repetitive pop-up approvals.

Great Product

Pros: Excellent alternative to McAfee & Norton

Cons: Erm.. haven't found any!

Review: I bought Zone Alarm after getting fed up with McAfee, which is slow and does lots of weird things without asking. I've not had great experiences with Norton either which often causes your computer to crash.

So I looked into alternatives and a friend put me onto Zone Alarm. I looked into reviews (including the editor's on cnet) and the firewall always seemed to come out top. Overall, the suite had excellent reviews and I certainly don't disagree.

The program is easy to use and you can set up different prefferences for individual programs or websites. The spyware scan is always picking things up (although I also run AdAware alongside it since it is good practice to run more than one anti spyware product) and the virus scan and firewall have also done their job with a degree excellence.

I have not experienced any of the problems other reviewers have reported. The spyware and virus software is updated automatically without a hitch - and Zone Alarm doesn't insist on telling me everytime like McAfee does.

I can keep details in the vault to prevent passwords, etc being sent over the net withour my knowledge and the email spam filter is great too.

I have excellent security for my computer and none of the annoying problems that I had before with McAfee. This is an A* product.

RAM Hog and Slow

Pros: Works well for security

Cons: This new version 7 has changed a great program into a mediocre one

Review: I've used ZA for several years. This latest upgrade to version 7 is a real step backwards. It consumes 74Mb of RAM on my machine. The software now runs two files called scanningprocess.exe that have doubled the amount of RAM it uses. The machine performance has noticeably slowed down.

From what I've been able to research, this result is normal and typical.

I've emailed support. Even though I'm a paying customer they don't respond. ZA has telephone support, but only for high charges.

I'll either go back to the previous version or change to another software. If you have a desktop machine with a couple of Gb of RAM and don't mind a bloated program. If you have a laptop with 1Gb like I do (or you have less RAM) then stay away from this program for now.

ZoneAlarm 7 is a Virus Equivalent

Pros: Nice color scheme.

Cons: Freezes computer

Review: I've been a satisfied user of ZoneAlarm for several years. But when I naively installed version 7 it alternately either locked-up or slowed my computer to a crawl. With several hours of work I was able to remove it without having to reinstall the operating system. But I can say that the time this cost me far outweighs the price of this product any previous benefit it has provided. I would give this release a negative score if I could.

"JUNK" is not a strong enough word.

Pros: NONE WHATSOEVER

Cons: There is not enough time and space

Review: For years I have been a very happy Zone Alarm user. Yesterday, I tried to upgrade into ZA 7. I have no other spyware, anti-virus, firewall or similar programs on my PC. My PC is fast and clean. ZA "Blue Screens" (i.e. crashes) my Windows XP Pro. I tried it all - all the fixes on this site, all the fixes on the ZA Forum and all the fixes prescribed by ZA's outrageously priced tech support. Nothing fixes the problem...nothing. 6.5 was slick and worked like a champ. 7 was released WAY too early by a company with the absolute worst customer service and tech support out there. I am appalled by the conversion of a wonderful product into this garbage. I am only slightly more appalled by Cnet's high rating of the product with no mention whatsoever of the Windows crash issue. They clearly didn't research the product very carefully. I will be very cautious before trusting them again. The plethora of folks experiencing the same problems and posting those results in many places makes it clear this is certainly not an unusual problem...and its a big one. One would think Checkpoint would have fixed such an issue immediately. However, I suppose they would rather allow the problems to continue so they can sell their worthless $2.95/minute tech support. I am done with this company and their product. A very big disappointment after being a long-term ZA fan and user. Nonethless, I do not have the time to fool around with this Company or product further. If you want a good, stable product that makes efficient use of resources, offers efficient AND effective service and support and cares about its customers, you will have to look elsewhere. Checkpoint simply does not care about the garbage they now produce.

It works, but is definite resource hog

Pros: Seems to do it's job

Cons: Slows booting down, hogs memory

Review: I installed my ZoneAlarm 7 1 week ago on a brand new computer, Intel Duo 6400, 2 GB RAM, and the only thing installed before it (besides the operating system) was my satellite internet software.

There was NO preexisting spyware, antivirus, etc. etc. installed (this was a fairly bare-bones unit).

Install went fine and I liked the looks of the suite, but I noticed a huge slowdown in startup time - comparable to booting my old WinMe computer with Norton, the whole reason for a new machine! I checked and tweaked all the other programs that load on boot, with no improvement.

So I uninstalled ZSS 7 and presto, my boot time was back to a few seconds rather than a couple of minutes. This is apparently a "known" issue.

I thought I would give it one more chance (since I installed it before installing all my other critical software - Office, etc.) so after cleaning all traces of it off my system (it uninstalls pretty clean, but not without traces if you look), reinstalled thinking it might help to do it AFTER all my key software was loaded.

Back now to extremely slow boot times that almost seem to get worse with every boot. That's really my biggest complaint, although I also have the problem with the double load of the scanning process, which is indeed a resource hog. And there are times when response when surfing seems slow but since I am a satellite user I say this with a grain of salt given the variability of satellite response times. But I DO notice a perceptible delay between the time I click on a link and my satellite modem actually showing the transmit going out, and a noticeable difference between what the little "internet in/out" green and red bars say the traffic is versus what I can actually see the satellite modem showing.

If I notice an impact on performance with a 2 GB brand new machine, I can only imagine the impact on older, slower machines with less RAM.

I have no complaint about the protection, but I switched to Zone Alarm from a lifetime loyalty to Norton (beginning with it's utilities back in the DOS days) precisely to avoid the system hogging that earlier versions of Norton Security also suffered from. And as a previous reviewer pointed out, I bought my new machine precisely because I wanted a fast, responsive computer after too long with a slow and increasingly unstable one.

I agree with others that anyone considering a purchase should check the ZoneAlarm user forums - the advice of one of their "gurus" to me was to uninstall version 7 and install the free v. 6.5 until such time as upgrades are available - not, in my mind, the sort of solution that a paid user of the product wants to hear. So I'm looking around for options, may find myself back with good (bad?) old Norton after all.

I will, however, check this product out again once the promised "fixes" are in, since apart from the speed/resource issues, the rest of it worked just fine for me, I like the interface and how easy it was to find the various customizable settings (you DO have to look at all the various tabs, but I don't know any better way to do it, you couldn't put it all on the main screen). It even appears to be doing a good job protecting my kids computer (networked to mine with me as gateway) running XP Home without SP2, as indicated by clean scans for viruses and spyware (with completely different packages) yesterday in prep for finally upgrading hers to XP2 (her machine has not had Internet access until now).

The only other dumb thing in this version is why automatic updates don't default to "on", and are hidden in a tab that you don't automatically see unless you are exploring.

Switched from Norton - much better

Pros: easier set up; better support; fewer system resources

Cons: extra charges for CD's

Review: I switched from Norton IS6 because of the complexity of upgrading and the lack of product support. Zone Alarm is a sleek package, smooth install and easy options to set up while also offering advanced options. I thought it would take all day to properly configure the new product but was set up and scans run within one hour.

No longer a ZA fan

Pros: OK product, I guess.

Cons: VSMON process uses 34MB, accesses disk every 2 seconds, support $3/minute

Review: I will probalby not renew. VSMON process consumes 34MB of RAM and accesses the disk every two seconds. Problem was listed in ZA forum, but never resolved. No e-mail support, only $3/minute phone. I don't like companies that are hard to contact. If I can find a better product/support combo I'll switch.

Excellent Product

Pros: Ease of use

Cons: No Antiphishing Toolbar

Review: I have used ZA for years from the onset of their free firewall to Security Suite 7. SS7 did have some bugs when first introduced and believe me I had them all. But with the introduction of Kaspersky antivirus things have gotten much better. For some reason it seems to not work for some but I found that they are usually newbies and don't understand how to use it efficiently. If you had installed other software ie, antivirus antispam make sure you have cleaned all files and then use a Registry Cleaner to remove any entries that maybe interfering with ZA. Also if you downloaded program from the internet some packets can get lost so try downloading again and try reinstalling, just a suggestion. I have used Norton in the past and always had problems with it using to much CPU and memory. Now that ZASS7 is working fine I'm sticking with it and would recommend to anyone. It isn't perfect but what in the world is?

Total waste of money.

Pros: Has Zone Alarm name (this used to be a plus)

Cons: This product is a mess .. buy at your own risk.

Review: I am an experienced user, with a quad-core QX6700 machine and 4 megs of ram. I have been using another anti-virus program with Zone Alarm Pro for about 10 years. This year I decided to put my computers on the whole ZA Security Suite v7 package.

After installing I tried to do a full virus scan. It slowed down my machine so much, that I was barely able to close down other programs to give it full access to the computer. It lagged me so bad, I could not type a full sentence.

It chugged for 6 hours and then locked up; unable to complete the scan. During this time I couldn't use my computer as it was commandeered by this virus scan. I have not been unable to complete a full virus scan one single time.

The Firewall continues to ask for the same permissions over-and-over. It has blocked my all-in-one printer so I am now unable to print or scan. I have posted to the forums but did not find a fix.

I'm not alone. Just check out the ZA Forum .. it is FILLED with complaints just like mine.

I sent an email out to ZA Tech support, but received canned responses (please uninstall .. please reinstall). I've uninstalled it for the last time .. I'm finished with it. ZASS v.7 should still be beta testing .. I've had nothing but problems. I purchased two licenses and now I'm singing the blues.

What more can you ask!

Pros: Can do it all!

Cons: Dont let it! Get some help!

Review: It is certainly interesting to note of how over time the computer and our place at the keyboard has become increasingly demanding and even more so the place at the keyboard is as a science. The Internet Security Suite 2007 from ZoneAlarm is a very capable and competent offer, requiring more and more so greater involvement if we are to become masters of our own fate. This is somewhat of a fancy way to say that this offer from ZoneAlarm is on par with some of the best software I have yet had the privledge of working with though I'am merely a computer user and not involved like some that have schooling and degrees as such in the computer sciences. There are real strengths that this Internet Security suite allows for and one such strength is the ability to customize the permissions protocol which contributes to the care that we can give to the needs as per individual applications though even more so it has proven to be a very amendable product with even more so great potential. This product has that about it,it does not surprise you though as the demands are not its entirely to bare. The ability that this offer represents is in keeping with the demands that Internet Security Suites themselves provide for.It takes greater and greater committment to not only properly manage a suite such as the ZoneAlarn Internet Security Suite 2007 with but a reward if you do.I first got to know the ZoneAlarm firewall through the offer of ZoneAlarm Pro early 2005 and was quickly able to determine that I needed greater and though not nearly done with ZoneAlarm Pro 2005 I opted for ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 2005 and enjoyed a time period that was useful as well as uneventful. In fact I recall as the 2006 versions were hitting the market some months later I heard some complaints about updating that I actually did not believe. It was such smooth sailing with 2005 that I really could not of cared less if they were saying the sky was falling I really did not believe there was anything to be concerned about. It is in fact or was then nothing to be concerned about and indeed when the time came to update to 2006,first I had no doubt and second there was nothing to be terribly concerned about as well. The success of the Internet Suites from ZoneLabs has provided such capable ability that the internet security suite was placed not only on my Dell Dimension Desktop but as well on my Dell Inspiron 2200 Laptop. The most recent events have only allowed for 2007 to already be on my Dell Dimension and is ready to be installed on my Inspiron. This is a very capable product however it is no joke to know just how demanding a clean computing environment is and that it takes more that just ZoneAlarm to make that a reality.I have not had at any point a viral component get loose in the wild that got by the ZoneAlarm firewall and subsequent anti-virus.It was the Malware that I needed help with and it is help that was provided by applications like Spyware Doctor,Spysweeper,Windows Defender, these very good applications where unmitigated in there ability to deter and detect and remove spyware from my computing environment. They have been so successful that in conjunction with the Internet Security Suite from ZoneAlarm I'am presently able to say with a real sense of accomplishment that I am a networked computer, there being two computers in total that are spyware, malware and virus free computing environments. The need to deal a blow against the onset of malware was as important as anything that the most recent times allowed for. That is the reward that a product like ZoneAlarms Internet Security Suite has provided for and that is a clean and well run working environment. There is such in this opinion that I really could provide something of a positional paper if you will with a terrible amount of information to indicate that this is one excellent all around Internet Security Suite though I will leave much for others it is no joke that this Internet Security Suite has the distinction of underwritting a clean working environment.Yes you have got to work for it however there are as stated earlier rewards if you do.I would recommend to anyone willing to learn and needing such as the ZoneAlarm Internet Security suite to learn that you have probably the best firewall in the business in the ZoneAlarm firewall. The anti-virus as I stated rather clearly never allowed a virus to get loose in my computers data base.I have been virus free though there was and have been detections with subsequent deletions however the Zonealarm anti-virus is no slouch it scans well and thoroughly and can even for all its time that it can take be thorough and exacting. Not everything that the Internet Security Suite can do should you bother to attempt to do and with but one reservation and that would be if there is cause, however this is a recommendation without reservation I dont think you can go wrong.

Best Security Suite Must Be

Pros: Blocks a whole range of Internet nasties and has a range of other Internet safety features

Cons: Using this can be a pain as it stops you from entering sites you have registered for and it can hog your system resources

Review: ZA security suite is top notch althought it is sometimes too good i.e. when i try to enter yahoo mail and other sites that I use a password for it says "Invalid ID or password Please try again" this can be remidyed by turning off the block cookies and/or adding sites to the trusted list. It also fails to secure my passwords in its vault, it has protected my identity 0 times even thought I have used passwords that I keep in the vault (this may be down to my settings) it can be a system resource hog at times forceing me to reeboot. These are the bad points which to me are far outweighted by the other exellent features.

Degrades System Performance dramatically

Pros: Controls are cool

Cons: Kills system speed, very user intensive

Review: Would recommend AVG or other programs over this. This product kills system performance. It is also very cumbersome to manage all application interactions in this fashion. Maybe ok for a home PC with limited applications and use but you will hate it at the office.

Zone Alarm Security Suite

Pros: Most everything

Cons: Doesn't have junk mail filter for Thunderbird

Review:
Updated
When ZoneAlarm Security's spyware scans, it slows down my computer to a crawl and Firefox and Thunderbird stops responding. This is not a serious issue AND it may be my own computer. I haven't figured that out yet.

Very adaptable!

Pros: You can control everything from what gets scanned to what programs have access to other programs!

Cons: You have to know enough about your computer to tell it what to do...

Review: I love it! Norton tries to be idiot-proof. It only lets you do specific jobs, it controls everything else and you can't do anything else while it drains all your RAM.

Bloated Resource Hog

Pros: Further Review Required

Cons: Slow, Slow, Slow

Review: I have used McAfee, and recently Norton System Works. Having minor problems recently with NAV and coming to the end of a subscription, I thought I'd give Zonealarm a try because of it?s favorable CNET review. I started with my desktop system with the intent to migrate my laptop when it?s NAV subscription expired.

Both of my systems are highly optimized in terms of unused XP resources. Both exhibited tolerable startup times prior to installing ZA security suite. Prior to installing, a complete uninstall of Norton?s products was performed including a follow-up with Norton?s cleanup utility.

Startup times on both systems increased significantly after installing ZA, especially the lower powered (1.5 Pentium M) laptop. Both systems are configured with 1Gb of memory with the laptop?s hard drive upgraded to a 5400 RPM unit.

My impressions of the ZA user forum is that they are dancing around this obvious performance issue, sending it?s users on wild goose chases such as disabling XP services, optimizing this and that when clearly, their systems were performing acceptably prior to ZA.

I?ve played these games too many times with the same result. I will not harangue ZA technical support or the ?ZA user forum?. It?s obvious they are aware of this problem AND know they ?own it?. I?ll give them 3-6 months to resolve it, and issue a fix. If not, I will cut my losses and return to my ISP?s free offer of McAfee?s security suite.

False Advertising!

Pros: Firewall works well

Cons: Not Vista compatible

Review: I purchased this software because the Internet Security Suite 7 was labeled "Vista Ready" on the software box, but the software could not be installed on my system running Vista, citing the software is not compatible with Vista. This is a blatant false advertising by Check Point!

I wasted my money!

Pros: Used to be the best.

Cons: Read Below!

Review: I have used Zone Alarm Pro for about 5 years and recommended it to everybody I knew. It was the only security system worth using, it was simply the best of the crop.
I am sad to say I will no longer be using the new Version 7. Like others that have posted here and elsewhere my system crashes, freezers. But my biggest problem with ZAP ISS 7 is the way in which has slowed my system down. And to the doubting thomas' my system is one week old e6600 core 2 duo 2 gig of ram blah blah. Before I installed ZAP IIS 7 system started up in about 15 seconds, blew out to 2 minutes after install. Before install Web pages loaded instantly. After install the lag time became frustratingly slower on loading pages. MS office loading time was affected along with other programs. My prime objective when spending thousands of dollars buying my new system was to get instant reactions from computer. So with 6 months still left on my subscription I have given ZAP THE FLICK ONCE AND FOR ALL and my systems has benefitted from it as have the hair on my head, I no longer pull them out with frustration. Good luck to all who like the program but like everything all good things don't last.
Finally, I am giving Norton 360 a go at the moment and they look like getting my next software investment.
Cheers

Everything works well except the anti-virus

Pros: Everything is easy to configure. I'm a big fan of ZoneAlarm firewall

Cons: Antivirus keeps freezing my computer

Review: I have a 1.8 GHz Pentium M with 1GB Ram, running Windows XP. Everything in ZoneAlarm Internet security suite works fine except the AV. One the scan starts, my computer is rendered useless. After rebooting the computer a couple of times due to the scans, my computer's speed has lowered significantly. The AV is so unsatisfactory that I'm just going to uninstall the entire suite and just install norton AV paired with ZA Firewall. Sometimes less is better.

It shut me down

Pros: cost, pretty colors

Cons: huge performace drain

Review: I installed this just a few days ago, but I am now trying to uninstall it, and it won't let me. My problem is I get two instances of ScanningProcess.exe, which take up 30 to 40% of my cpu, each, on a constant basis. It has left me dead in the water.

Poor ad-blocking

Pros: ??? Fry's had a $50 rebate, so it was basically free.

Cons: Only blocks about 50% of ads. Some interference with other programs (e.g., WinAmp).

Review: I bought it from Fry's.com because the rebate basically made the software free, but it does a poor job with ad-blocking. I tried Kaspersky's Internet Security 30-day free trial, and Kaspersky seemed much better than Zone Alarm.

I changed products!

Pros: I love the Privacy setting. Being able to see which websites have tracking cookies and blocking them from the get-go is awesome!

Cons: If I didn't already have a technical background, I could understand where this might be very confusing, and I would probably not recommend it for say.. my parents with no computer experience

Review: Coming over from McAfee, which is the worst product ever made, I absolutely love Zone Alarm. It shows me everything I need to know, and lets me chose the settings. It is the best security product on the market and I wouldn't choose anything else.
Thank you C|net Editors for the recommendation!

Check User Forum Before Buying

Pros: Triple Defense

Cons: Premature Release

Version 7 is not worth it - install issues & higher CPU

Pros: None that outweight the Cons

Cons: Too Many Problems

Review: I used to be a big champion of Zonelabs - but now I have to say that they have become a very big disappointment. Their new version 7 won't install well - disables Windows Security Notices - & uses a lot of CPU when you do finally get it installed. Further, Zonelabs user forum is no help - if you complain & seek help they will quickly ban you from the site - thus censoring user views. Very, very unfortunate.

Versions 6 & 6.5 are better - virus scan is weak - but version 7 is an improvement (Kaspersky) but the bugs just don't quit not making ver. 7 worthwhile. ver 6 & 6.5 is better on CPU & install issues - but again, if you run into issues & seek help in the users forum be prepared to get banned if you express your disappointment or detail your problems in an effort to seek help from Zonelabs.

Plus - Zonelabs does not submit its firewall or virus scanner to ICSA or WCL or other independent testing & certification. See: http://internet-security-suite-review.toptenreviews.com/

I've taken ZA Security Suite off my systems due to the problems noted above. Too bad, they used to be a good company with good products.
Updated
In the interests of being fair to Zonelabs I feel compelled to post the following update:

I was reading about ZA Security Suite version 7 on the ZA User Forum, as I am recently no longer banned, to make sure that I wasn't missing something about my recent comments or review. I take the responsibility for my comments seriously as other people may rely upon them (& others') in making purchasing decisions.

I discovered that other people are having problems with Version 7 & that these install, system resource, and critical error locks problems are likely attributable to a conflict with the very popular Spyware Sweeper program. As I also use this product & experienced the same issues with ZA SS version 7, I feel compelled to post this follow-up as a possible explanation for the product issues that I experienced.

It doesn't change my mind about Zonelabs corporate behavior toward its customers, but it does offer an explanation for the problems that I (and apparently a lot of others) experienced.

This also doesn't change my score because, since Spyware Sweeper is so popular, Zonelabs should have developed a work around for conflict & other issues (like Windows security notice disabling) before releasing it to the public. Further, the lack of independent third party testing & certification is also a major issue - and may have prevented the problems described above.

Anyway, I hope this helps and provides clarification.

Does anybody else have a problem with ZA crashing your Outlook Express?

Pros: Generally easy to use, seems to be a complete package

Cons: Need a ledgend to understand their lingo, crashes Outlook Express 6

Review: I placed an email to their support (only option) and they responded with "You should receive a reply via email within 3-4 working days."

...mmm.... can't wait!

I'll keep you posted.

Great Design But fatal crashes when scanning

Pros: Nice FEatures and great interface

Cons: The main prog crashes when you scan-must reboot

Review: I loved version 6.5. The new ZASS's main program module, vsmon.exe, generates fatal errors when scanning if the default setting, which limits scans to files smaller than 8MB, is not used. Also it appears to be incompatible with a number of programs including defraggers, and other programs that have schedulers or large files.
I've had the vsmon problems on 3 diff makes and models of computers with various hardware set ups.

When vsmon crashes, you have to reboot.

Also, if vsmon has crashed on your PC, it can be a bear to then have manually uninstal ZASS 7.0.302.

Wait at least until the next update comes out. That addresses the crash problems with scans.

Not impressed

Pros: to be announced

Cons: slowed my pc right down

Review: I am A zonealarm iss subcriber and have noticed that when I used to use za iss 6.1 I had more interactivity with my pc, I run a server and a website, and while I was using 6.1 everything was fine and I was happy for my purchase. But along came 6.5 and that was where my problems began, my server connection times out when I try to back up my site, and (although this maybe me nit picking) I have noticed that my msn smileys and display pics no longer work. this is also true of using iss 7, but with iss 7 my pc has dramatically slowed down too in all, I much preferred iss 6.1 for ease of use and interactivity.

ZA7 has it all!!

Pros: Versatility, spectrum of coverage, security levels, new AV

Cons: takes some getting used to for the technically challenged

Review: I was always a little worried about the limitations of CA antivirus, so when I saw Zone Alarm had switched to KasperSky in its latest release, I was ecstatic! This new version is also easier for the uninitiated user, as it has far more automated modes than previous versions. The Identity Protection center is a welcome addition as well, with the way Identity theft has become so rampant.

For the old users of Zone Alarm such as myself, the same features we have come to love are still integrated into the Suite, so we're not going to miss anything.

One thing I might mention, though, is that for automated anti-virus and anti-spyware updates, you need to turn auto-update on in the advanced options. Why they didn't have auto-update on as a default is beyond me. Still, once you turn it on, you're home free.

I have to say that this is the best Zone Alarm Suite yet!

Good ideas... lousy execution

Pros: KAV engine, improved an already good firewall

Cons: Interface, tons of bugs, glitches, and compatability issues

Review: I give them props for switching to the Kaspersky AV engine from CA. In fact the only reason I didn't use ZAISS 6 was because I prefered KAV, so I used ZAPro in conjunction with it. When I heard they would be using KAV in ZAISS 7, I thought to myself... "Awesome", now I can have everything I like all in 1 package. It sounded great... in theory... until inevitably I purchased it and installed it that is.

There is a glitch with the expert firewall rules, it doesn't seem to want to save them. There are tons of incompatibility issues, just look at their forums once if you don't believe me. Only a couple days after entering my registration key, it asked me to do so again, then said it was invalid. I have a feeling that this "Checkpoint" company doesn't really know what they're doing, they completely ruined what was an easy, light, dependable interface in 6.5.

It stinks because they had a great idea merging KAV & ZA Pro, it's the best of both worlds. But there are just too many glitches to warrant a high rating IMO. Hopefully they release a 7.5 version in the near future with these problems resolved, because this one almost seems like a beta. Like they hurried it knowing there were going to be alot of bugs, content to wait for feedback from angry customers so they'd know what to work on.

I have a feeling that had Zonelabs stayed hands-on with this project instead of Checkpoint, that it would be much better.

Goodby nav! HELLO ZONE ALARM!

Pros: Found spyware norton did not find! And so much faster!

Cons: A little slugish at first

Review: I used Norton for years! But spybot and ad-aware found so many things that norton did not! So I read a bunch of reviews and decided to go with Zone Alarm and I am not disappointed at all! My computer starts so much faster now! I ran Norton before I uninstalled it and found NOTHING! Installed Zone Alarm in less than 5 minutes ran it and it found spyware that Norton or Spyware did not find! I love the firewalls! WELL WORTH THE MONEY! Great job Zone Labs!

SO much better than Norton

Pros: Fast and easy download, easy to use, thorough virus and spam scans, impenetrable firewall

Cons: Haven't found any yet

Review: I am the first to admit that I'm a bit of a computer idiot, but purchasing this program gave me quite a self-confidence boost. I had been trying to install my new version of Norton SystemWorks and Internet Security for almost a month. All I got was error messages that the Norton Autofix tool couldn't fix. And I had all the basic system requirements for the application, so I was just scratchin' my head. I knew that my computer was in bad need of more memory and disk space, so I installed a 250gb hard drive and doubled my memory (ok, I had some help from my computer savvy friends). Then I dumped Norton after I read about ZoneAlarm. Within a half hour of installing ZoneAlarm, it found a Trojan virus that the Norton scan I had run that morning had missed. Then when it ran its complete scan this morning it picked up 50 more infections and 6 dataminers that I had been trying to get off my computer for 2 years!!! My computer is so happy! It's running like it ought to be, and I'm sure a lot of that is from the hardware I installed, but I can't help but think that a good bit of the improved performance is attributed to ZoneAlarm. I would recommend this program to anyone who's fed up with Norton slowing their computer to a crawl - just make sure that you're lack in performance isn't just a lack of memory. I'm no computer whiz, but I do know when a program is easy to use and works well.

Great Value with Kaspersky AV and ZA Firewall - only a few minor flaws.

Pros: Excellent Value - Free after rebate. Great firewall. Good AV. Great lower resource alternative to Norton.

Cons: Current version has Win. Sec. Center error (have to turn off WSC AV monitor); AV doesn't appear to update hourly nor automatically; doesn't have the daily critical scan that the Kaspersky I.S. has.

Review: I originally had the ZA free firewall with AVG, this provides MUCH improved protection over the free version. Before ZA I used to religiously use Norton IS, this is an excellent replacement, far less intrusive with a better firewall. Norton was a system hog and tried to reject my rebate last year with terrible customer service. I went to ZA free trial and loved it. I ordered ZA I.S. 2007 and actually got version 6.5. All you have to do is download verrsion 7.0 from the ZA website and use the same/new license key. It appears that the upgrades to the newest version are always free if you have a current license/subscription.

According to ZA website the WSC error will be fixed on the next update, I have no idea why the "hourly" AV update is not working. The Spyware is pretty good but when I run Spybot and Adaware after ZA Spyware Scan I usally still find a couple things.

I can't say enough about the firewall, it rocks. I have Kaspersky Internet Security on another computer and actually like ZA firewall better. Kasperky IS seems to use slightly less resources and has a great daily critical quick scan for the AV that the the ZA AV (Kaspersky) version does not offer.

One last note, you have to turn off cookie, ad-blocking, and mobile control to download programs from the internet, these are just privacy settings. I usually just shutdown ZA when I download a file and then re-activate it before I install the new program.

User Rating: 7/10

trustable since its from ZA

Pros: ZA extended firewall to IM,ID vault ,found new spyware undetected before

Cons: combined virus+spyware scan slows down the system

Review: Hi, been a user of ZA firewall for more than 4years now.Concerned with the high speed bandwidth iam exposed to compared to where i was few months back, i bought ZA7.

After a scan with ZA7, i run Ad aware, Ad Aware finds some just few adware tracking cookies!Still a huge reduction in infection.
When running the combined scan for virus+spyware system slows down.Strangely,
if i run it while working its just slowness that irritates.
whereas if i leave system alone for a while and come back, i cant even open ZA windows, had to shut down.
This could be due to my laptop, just wanted to point out that combined scan may be good for new processors, mine is AMD turion 64.

Otherwise, ZA found two websites which i visit once a while trying to infect a spyware into my system.
I still trust this product for the label it comes with ZA. i go more for safety of data to speed.

Best AV/Firewall out!

Pros: Best Firewall out

Cons: A little slow, Uses a fare amount of resources

Locked up computer

Pros: inexpensive

Cons: flawed software

Review: Ran zone alarm 7 for 1 day, upon trying to boot up the following day my computer is completely locked up and will not boot at all, giving me a fatal hard drive error. I had to re-boot in safe mode and then do a system restore to get computer functioning again.

My computer is a higher end dell that I purchased around 6 months ago, which indicates to me that this software has some serious flaws that need to be sorted out.

Works As Advertised, Very Satisfied

Pros: Excellant Firewall, Antivirus & Antispam

Cons: Virus Scan is slow, best to schedule during off hours. Antispyware just so-so

Review: Before installing ZA SS 2007, uninstalled BitDefender Security Suite 10 & Spy Doctor and deleted all remnents left behind. Clean installation of ZA SS 2007 went without a hitch and program runs great. No problem with booting, etc. No system crashes. Running Spy-Bot & Ad-Aware SE Plus to supplement Zone Alarm's Antispyware without any problems.

Who are these people?

Pros: I would not know

Cons: Invalid license key

Review: I would not know how the program works. It certainly is not easy to install it and the customer service is not worth much. A simple task of installing the software and putting in the license key that came in the box with the disc should not take a week and 4 phone calls to the customer support, do you not agree?
The first time I tried to install the thing I used the disc. Then I used the license key that came with the disc. The key was invalid. I called and was told that I will get a link for a new download and a new key. That did not happen. The second time I called, I was told that the key is for a different version than the disc I have. Now, who puts a key for version 7 in a box with a disc version 6? So I un-installed the version 6, downloaded the version 7 off their site and installed that version. They key still did not work.
The next time I called, they told me that I need to un-install the version I got from the web and install from the disc again.
Why do companies try to ?protect? their intellectual property using methods that they do not understand or know how to implement correctly?

Great software - VERY POOR support

Pros: Best firewall and anti-virus I have used

Cons: Poorest support in the industry

Review: Zone Alarm continues to improve the capabilities of their products. I have never had any other scanner find any virus' or spyware on my system, while using ZA.

The biggest problem I have with them is on support, or lack of support. Most questions are replied too with a canned answer that does not even address the issue. Any additional requests for help usually get the same answer.

If the software works on your system and does not cause any problems, then great! If you have any problems with the software, don't bother to contact them. They don't care!

I continue to use their products but I will switch, if anything comes along that will provide the same level of protection (and has support).

ZA 7 crashes unexpectedly

Pros: Simple to install, simple to use

Cons: The program crashes unexpectedly

Review: To start off, I have no vested interest or concern about any of the security suites I mention here; I'm merely testing to find one that balances security vs. overhead, and that consistently works. I was using TrendMicro's Internet Security 2007. It's become somewhat of a resource hog (more than 2006), so I tested Norton Internet Security 2007 and ZoneAlarm 2007 - on two of my three computers. No, not at the same time, and using a clean Acronis image before installing any one of them. One computer is a high end machine I built; the other, a factory HP laptop - both XP Pro, SP2. ZA installs easily, is quick to get up and running, and surprisingly light on overhead. However, ZA repeatedly crashes. At each bootup the event log shows "The Kl1 service failed to start due to the following error: the system cannot find the file specified". The ZA forums note this is a known bug "http://forum.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/board/message?board.id=inst&message.id=61385". Shortly after booting up, Windows will present "vsmon.exe application error". The event log will show this error: "The TrueVector Internet Monitor service terminated unexpectedly." Google this, you'll see I'm not alone.

In researching this, and opening a help ticket, ZoneLabs tech support recommended performing a clean uninstall, and a clean install. Contrary to Cnet's comments about ZA uninstalling cleanly, it does not. You must specify switches when running the uninstall - /clean /rmlicense. You must then search for, and remove certain files and folders. This is according to ZoneLabs tech support. In some cases, tech support recommends booting into safe mode to do some additional uninstalling. There are several iterations of how to do a clean uninstall on the Zonelab site.

They then had me boot up the machine with nothing but Microsoft and the ZA services running. This has not fixed the problem. The vsmon.exe crashes, and the event log shows the same errors.

I'm posting this as a warning to anyone: to date, after approx. 10 hours of troubleshooting, the program will still not work correctly. I'm waiting for tech support to reply with next steps for repair. I'm not complaining, merely offering my experience so far. When, or if, I get an adequate resolution, I'll be happy to post it.
One additional warning: ZA offers SystemMechanic 7 as a bundled item. My suggestion is do not install this. When installed in conjunction with ZA7, the system will become unstable or not boot at all. The culprit is "ioloDMVsvc.exe" which behaves sufficiently like a root-kit so as to give ZA the hissyfits. You must boot into safe mode, disable this service, then uninstall SysMech 7. System Mechanic 6 seems to install and behave nicely, so far. Just an FYI.

ZoneLabs was unable to resolve the issue of True Vector shutting down unexpectedly. Their final recommendation was to uninstall version 7 and install version 6.5.737.000. This was an unacceptable solution. At this point, I elected to uninstall version 7 and go no further with the ZoneAlarm product. In summary, I spent about 12 hours total time troubleshooting ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 7 (on two disparate computers) with no acceptable results.

I test drove Norton Internet Security 2007, ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 7 and
TrendMicro Internet Security 2007; Trend is the winner based on ease of use, reliability, performance, and service. Call it the "does it's job and doesn't annoy me while I'm working on my computer" factor.

I must say, ZoneLabs assigned me an individual (which is rare) as a point of contact for my support request. I dealt with this same person in all the e-mail exchanges, and received nothing but courteous, prompt, and professional treatment. Zone gets a 10 for that.

Lots of Options, but confused

Pros: Lots of Options

Cons: High system resources

Review: Why are people saying this takes less system resources than NAV?

I'm disappointed

Pros: Good Secuirty Suite specially it is now tied up with KAspersky

Cons: Freezes my Windows

Review: I'm really disappointed with ZoneAlarm... I'm previously using ZA 6.5 and have no problem.. After upgrading to Version 7 it seems to worked out well but the time I reboot my PC... The Windows freezes on startup and I can't get to my desktop either.. I end up reinstalling my windows to fix it... Hopefully in the future they will fix these problems as what others have already said. There are so many compatibility issues that has to be fixed.

Powerful And Smooth

Pros: Runs like a swiss watch

Cons: None so Far

Review: This is the best security system I have ever used and I have tried them all. Uses little or no power best Firewall And antivirus on the
market and after all what are we looking for in a security suite bells and whistles don't stop intruders. The Anti ware is top notch. The price is low compared to some of the others. If you want your system protested this is the one!!!!

Just gets better and better.

Pros: Very fast, lightweight, top notch anti-virus with #1 firewall.

Cons: XP security center reports antivirus is out of date. Compatibilty issue.

Review: I have used version 6.5 and loved it. I think version 7 is even better considering it uses the #1 rated anivirus "Kapersky". The deep inspection scan is great for cleaning infested pc's.

Not Ready For Prime Time!

Pros: None, until it is fixed

Cons: Get Used to the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH

Review: I have used ZASS 6.5 with great success. Despite the frequent pop-ups, I felt very secure using it.

I purchased a new computer and decided to replace the Trend Micro PC-Cillin with ZASS 7. Loaded it on, rebooted and the BSOD appeared.

Long story short, it does not work with Spyware Doctor and similar programs. This and many other problems are well documented on the ZA website forums, and I suggest you read them before purchasing this product.

This is another example of companies beta testing their products on the backs of the consumer. I can only hope that they do an update, as I am not getting rid of my paid subscritpion to spyware doctor.

Fortunately ZASS 7 did cleanly uninstall in safe mode, and I wnet back to Trend Micro for now.

SIMPLY THE BEST

Pros: Set and forget, firewall & kaspersky engine ranked #1

Cons: Doesn't wash my SUV and take clothes to drycleaner

Review: Some of the negative comments are akin to watching the outrage on the faces of rejected American idol contestants. If you're on slow dialup with low Ram why yes thats a shame, maybe try turning some things off while browsing for instance tracking cookies won't come bite you. This program has the best overall protection and ease of use thats available, I've used them all tried them all. You want something that grinds the old cpu try new comodo free, this program has almost hourly kaspersky updates and yes it virus scans the entire computer just try setting the virus scanner to do so. The virus/spyware on-off button couldn't be more convenient compared to messing around with seperate components, I can't say enough good things about this in the space allowed yes I even purchased this after using free version since 1999. Oh yeah I can't see the anti virus update running, can't even tell but if I open the program gee whiz why it updated a half hour ago and I didn't even know it, wonder if anybody has complained about that yet.

absolutely not worth it

Pros: Very robust

Cons: Very very very hard on system resources

Review: I have an AMD 2400 Semp, with 512MB RAM, 80GB HDD, this program almost slowed down the overall performance by a third. I recently got a broadband connection, so a good firewall was a must, but ZoneAlarm was an absolute disappointment. On the contrary, I tried Outpost by Agnitum and was very impressed, it's light, faster and even protected from most unnecessary stuff while browsing even the crack sites.

7.0.302 should be named the first public beta ;)

Pros: Much better AV engine

Cons: I'll say there're still some bugs

Review: The CA engine with ZAISS 6.0 and 6.5 was way below standard, it didn't scan the RAM nor CPU. And failed to detect a few trojans resided on my C DRIVE!!, I wonder how CA got the AV100% award or was that just due to an incorrect compilation by the ZA guys?

The Kaspersky engine is okay I'll say. But I'm not sure if they implemented the mechanism of avoiding scanning unmodified files of the actual KAV 6.

The AV engine "%sysroot%\system32\zonealarm\scanprocess.exe" sometimes duplicated itself in the physical memory and denied internet access for internet explorer. All I did was a reboot when this occured. However this was fixed by a tiny patch on 21st January, 2007 through Antivirus/Antispyware update.

I believe some compatibilities issues remaining between Kaspersky's AV engine and Zone's True Vector as the the latter is so used to the CA Antivirus module. I will say less experienced users should keep their 6.5 until an update (current is 7.0.302) is released.

I give it a 10 nevertheless since they're trying to make a difference in the market. As for lack of telephone support: Nah I don't believe those telephone support guys at all. I can recall once the very "helpful" advicer suggested me to use Windows System Restore when the phoneline did not have ADSL signals through?! Which planet are they from?????? (not to mention after doing so would result in a slow and unstable system, what on earth was it related to the fact that my Netgear ADSL modem/router detected no ADSL signals????)
Updated
I've run out of patience with its beta testing scheme and I'm now using Comodo Firewall Pro 2.4 (free), Spyware Doctor 5 (free for detection and regedit for removals) and NOD32 2.7 (purchased). One should be amazed the 3 seperate products from 3 entire differect and competitive vendors, despite using a large amount of Ram, consumes very few CPU resources and caused zero conflicts; comparing with vsmon.exe, scanningprocess.exe and updateclient who just won't get along with one another

I'd rather use Norton

Pros: User friendly interface

Cons: Slows down your computer; causes many problem with Windows XP

Review: I don't know how CNET editors test their software, but I no longer believe them.

I have Windows XP SP2 and ZoneAlarm constantly causes problems. The first major problem was that my laptop would restart when I burned DVDs. I didn't have that problem with Norton. I had to reinstall ZA.

With ZoneAlarm, Windows now freezes up (like other users mentioned) and my programs will start 2-3 mins after opening them. Internet Explorer cannot open websites and I have to restart my computer.

Windows takes a longer time starting up. I decided to go with ZoneAlarms because CNET editors praised the performance of the program. In my case, my computer runs much slower than with Norton.

Before buying ZA, do your research somewhere else... don't believe CNET.

Caused chaos

Pros: Has potenial

Cons: destroys windows

Review: When I installed Zone Alarm 7.0 on windows XP Professional it worked just fine to begin with. I was revved up with its' potential as its' reviews promised so much and it looked the good. However I was in for a shock. After I rebooted my system locked up and I couldn't get back into windows. Nothing I did would work. In the end I had to reinstall windows and now I'm keeping well clear of zone alarm 7.0 as it almost cost me a fortune

Good All Around Computer Security Product.

Pros: It Will Keep Your Computer Safe.

Cons: Pop Up Alerts Can Become A Pain.

Review: I have used Zone Alarm Security Suite For Two years now, and it does do a very good job at protecting my computer.

Zone Alarm is well known for having one of the best made firewall walls, far better then most of the other security suites that are out there today.

Zone Alarm Will Not Slow Or Bog Down Your Machine Either Like Some Of The Other Security Suites Are Known To Do.

The Pop Up Alerts Can Become Annoying And Confusing At Times, Especially When It Is First Installed On A New Machine Until It "Learns" The System On That Particular Machine, But That Is About The Only Down Side.

Zonealarm internet security

Pros: An award winning antivirus with hourly updates, improved spyware and the worlds best firewall (3 layer)

Cons: Interface is very much similar to that of version 6.5

Review: Simply a masterpiece. Runs smoothly with minimal interuptions; antivirus is superb (detected 89 viruses on my desktop computer, which at the time was running norton 2006). The three layered firewall is outstanding. Last year I experienced 3 boot viruses which meant that I had to run a full system recovery. But now knowing that the OSfirewall (exclusive to zonealarm) monitors changes made to drive c gives me the satisfaction and assurance to do what I desire.

A must by!

Huge Improvement with a few bugs

Pros: Kaspersky Antivirus, Improved Antispyware, Hourly Updates, Tripple Layer Firewall, Very low system resource usage

Cons: Conflicts with other Antispyware, Few bugs that need to be worked out

Review: Compared to all the new 2007 Internet Security Packages, Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite is the best and most effective and uses the least amount of System resources. Combined with the Leading Antivirus (Kaspersky) you get the most protection for a reasonable price. Downside is some bugs with it just coming out of beta that will be fixed soon through the auto updater. Could provite a Antiphishing toolbar. Conflicts with other Antispyware apps such as Windows Defender.

The best of the bunch just got better

Pros: Most stable security suite we've used to date

Cons: Have had issues with some of our older computers w/ previous versions

Review: I've personally used ZA products for ages. The small firm I work for--at my insistence years ago--switch to ZA firewalls (ZA Pro) shortly after I started singing the praises of the product back in the mid-to-late '90s (don't ask me to remember exactly when...my brain cells aren't that good). To date, we haven't been let down by their firewall product.

At the office, we finally made the complete switchover to ZASS a couple of years ago, ridding ourselves of Symantec and McAfee packages for good. Generally, the transition had gone smoothly but with the few older 386-based computers we still had at the time (Win2000, WinME), the changeover wasn't as seamless for some of these boxes. After installation, some of these computers became balky in operation; one in particular refused to correctly boot-up. We're not exactly sure why this happened, since the glitches were inconsistent across all these machines. But our suspicions were that a lot of problems could be traced to how these computers were used (or more precisely, incorrectly used) by the particular staff that was on them at the time. The machine that refused to boot was formerly a Norton A/V computer and it's believed that it had been infected with one or more trojans early on in its life with us. Perhaps there was still some part of Norton still on the computer or some bits of the infections still remained; we're not sure as we decided to redo Windows and a new H/D at that point and start fresh (if I could've fired the guy who used the thing I would've done that to, but alas, they didn't give me that sort of purging power...).

We've now started the migration over to ZASS7, and so far this transition has been smooth with the three computers that have been switched over so far. We still have a few of the older 386 machines around (now running XP Pro), but we haven't moved any of those over to v7 yet; curious to see if any glitches occur but given the ease of transition so far with the newer hardware I'd guess it will go smoothly as well with these as well as the rest of the newer machines (fingers crossed).

ZASS7 so far seems just as easy to use as v6.5 has been for us. It resides in the background without anything in the way of hiccups or irritation. The nicest change is the migration to Kaspersky for A/V protection; CA was always suspect in how effective it was in detecting viruses, worms and trojans, both from actual experiences in the office and by others throughout the internet. For all the clunkiness and resource hogging of Norton, it DID do a good job of finding the bad stuff. When we switched to ZASS6.x, it seemed as if the frequency of reports of malware fell off (though at the same time, our email service provider did improve its own malware filtering, which had been almost non-existent up until the time we moved over to ZASS6.x). Still, Kaspersky has a better reputation for malware detection, and that's a good thing.

At home, I've so far updated one of our two Win PCs running ZASS6.5 (our third PC runs Trend Micro) to v7. So far, the XP Pro environment doesn't seem to have been adversely affected. Everything runs as I've come to expect from Zonelabs (though in the past it wasn't always perfect, particularly with software versions released right after the Check Point takeover). The computer is stable, and all faucets of ZASS seems to run as it should (it's only been a day). It doesn't seem to demand much more in the way of system resources than ZASS6.5 did, and certainly is a lot less demanding than Norton and McAfee have been in my past trials and uses of their respective SS apps. And of course there's still that excellent firewall of theirs. As for comparing it against Trend Micro's Internet Security package on my FX-55 box; TM's SS package does work pretty well, but I admit I do miss the ZA firewall. When that licence expires this coming fall, I suspect that I'll be migrating that gaming box over to ZASS as well, if only to get away from the constant and incessant auto-updating that TM seems to like to do (though ZASS seems to overindulge in that regard as well).

Hard to ask anything more. Though I do agree with Vamosi that a data shredder feature would've been a nice touch.

Very good if you can keep PC from Freezing up!

Pros: Great All in one and easy to use.

Cons: PC keeps freezing up.

Review: It use's a lot of memory and microsoft internet exployer keeps freezing up so must reboot often!

Ruined the PCs I installed it on!

Pros: Good Firewall -

Cons: Non-existant antivirus/spyware/malware/roo tware/customer service

Review: I purchased this based on the reviews read through my subscriptions and here. The "vector" service on it was goofing within a week and both my computers went into blue-screen of death shortly after. This program has ruined my systems and I can not even talk to a tech on a phone to fix it! You will wait, maybe days to get an email. This is nothing more than a glossy package. I am VERY disappointed the editor gave a "Yugo" of security suites such praise. Obviously the malware you are using in the lab there is outdated - wanna trade computers and test again?

Best of the lot

Pros: Firewall was always good but kasperky av is the biggest usp of ver7

Cons: Found none so far...

Review: Have been using za's new security suite for the past 2 days now and honestly i find it as stable as ever.Updates my definitions automatically , no crashes so far, consumes few resources,av found 6 new viruses!
For me ZA is the best sec suite out there atm,and the kaspersky av tieup is just great, because i never found the old CA av that foolproof.

Needs alot of work

Pros: Firewall is Improved

Cons: will not auto-update and shows errors in Windows Secuirty & on task bar

Review: No AntiVirus auto updates and warning in Windows Security Center, that ZoneAlarm anti virus is in need of update . ( Even after forced manule update.
I also see that when running an anti virus scan that it only scans 12,000 files . My PC has over 200,000 files on it ,for comparison,
NOD 32 scans completely. On using AOL's free version of Kaspersky anti virus , it scans over 195,000 files completely, and auto-updates every hour , also gives scaned files reports upon completion.
ZA's version 7 seems to be a stripped down beta & at best, "a step down in anti virus security and saftey " ...
I decided to discontiue using ZA when the CA anti virus updating problem started a few weeks ago, and I find the new ZA version 7
not any better .....
Uninstaller leaves a complete mess, their are lots and lots of crys for help on the Zone Alarm Users BBS Forum pleading for help with uninstall issues !

I have atleast 10 months left on my ZA Internet Secuirty paid subscription , but I would rather not fool around with ZA 7 ISS at this point.

The new ZA 7 's firewall seems much better .
Zone Alarm users Forum is just full of complaints and problems with ZoneAlarm Internet Suiet 7 .

I know that these comments are completly different from C NET's Review , chek it out for yourself on Zone Alarms User Forum .
