"Very Disappointed"
Pros: 1 - GUI is very nice
2- Seems to catch everything, very customizableCons: 1 - Catches everything. Makes system slow! Spend lot's of time customizing.
Summary: I was looking forward to this version. So I installed it this morning. After I installed it my RAM usage went from 37% to 50%!! My CPU usage went from 2-3% when doing nothing, to 17-25% when no apps were running. holy crap. So much for little system usage as they promised. I went in to see why. After I confirmed that no other software or firewall was running in the background I found part of the reason why. It catches EVERYTHING. I selected the recommended AUTO protection in the setup wizard, but using this setting I think I found out that the software was blocking all of my incoming and outgoing traffic. My PC was working harder than it had too. I had to spend 2 hrs telling Zone alarm to unblock Programs or Ports. This brought my CPU usage down to 46%. Maybe somebody more Geeky than I can tell me why. But this 46% compared to 37% while running Norton or AVG Free (or even just Defender) is to me unacceptable. Why does the Zone alarm software block half of my programs from the install !? It should not block them by default but allow me to block them, like many other products. This became so frustrating that I uninstalled Zone alarm and went back to another product. I just wanted something that worked, not that made me work harder. info: I run Vista on a Dell Inspiron 2.0GHZ, 2 mg RAM system.
2 - Disappointing performance
