Don,t waist your money. Very expensive - not effective

Pros: I have nothing good to say about Rosetta Stone

Cons: This over rated system simply did not work for me and it is very expensive

Review: Rosetta Stone is the most aggravating language learning system I have ever tried. Everything is based on some chinese person saying a word or words while you see a photo or group of photos. You never hear the english equivalent to let you know which photo is to be compared with the word or words that the Chinese person speaks. The companion CD's are much worse, as you just listen to someone speaking Chinese with no idea of what they are saying. This has to be the worse language leaning system on the market

very boring, a hindrance to learning

Pros: can use on computer

Cons: unnatural learning process, often assume wrong meaning of words or grammar rules, "no translation" is a gimmick to save money by distributing same software to multiple language carriers.

Review: while V3 is a bit better than V2, the vocabulary choice is still strange, and the whole process seems to discourage participation.

Tried Demo not impressed at all, gives no word base.

Pros: Keeps you interested kind of....hmmmm colorful?

Cons: This feels like you are starting in the middle, you know nothing and after the first lesson you still don't know fully what you were doing.to begin with. you are reading, spelling, and writing things they don't tell you what are? Way Too Much Money!

Review: Not impressed at all with this product.

Look elsewhere

Pros: interactive format

Cons: expensive, no basics

Review: The Rosetta stone teaches you "baby sentences" like how to point at a blue car or see the ball near the child.
It does not teaches you the language. There is no attempt at teaching you verbs and tense. It has nice pictures and you GUESS what the things are. Big, expensive disappointment. I suggest you try something else. I am.

Confusing for the Money

Pros: Visual and Audio Display of pronuciation

Cons: Poor method for intended use

Review: The program uses pictures to show the student the meaning of a phrase. Having studied some Chinese prior to using this, I had to download the manual for the English learning program to know what the pictures really meant. The intended meaning doesn't really match what is being said in Chinese. It is unclear what word means what or what the activity really is that is displayed. If you use this, do yourself a favor and download the english manual since the one with the Chinese learning package is all in Chinese.

The reason I kept the program is to use the pronunciation recording that shows my voice compared to a native speakers voice.

Not much content, not practical, and too expensive

Pros: It does have a lot of pictures.

Cons: Pay too much to learn very little.

Review: This software is money-back guarantee, however it really doesn't worth the money. The content is very limited, and not practical - not much daily life chinese, but has some words not for beginner or intermedia users. Both my friend and I heard about this software, but we are very disappointed after we tried it.

Great Product!

Pros: simplicity, flexibility, lesson plans, and depth of programs

Cons: price, language cross reference (it can be downloaded at no charge)

Review: This is a great program. This product takes you from elementary basics to complex fundamentals of any language. I have the Japanese and German beginner programs. The programs offer several distinct phases that range from reading comprehension, spelling, sounding, and listening recognition. One work of caution, the programs are addictive. I found that although is a bit expensive, it is worth every cent. The only drawback was that I had to download an English copy of the lesson plans from the RS website. One recommendation, if you are unsure, get the demo Rosetta Stone demo disk at no cost before you buy. They offer lesson 1 for a myriad of languages. Over the years, I have purchased a number of language programs for both work and pleasure. This series is by far is the absolute best.
