"More trouble than its worth" on by TS-Warrior
Pros: Running the backup was very painless and it ran in the background so it didn't tie up my machines excessively. I can't speak to the effectiveness of the restore, since I had no need for it.
Cons: I used this for 2 Vista 64-bit machines. Like many others, as soon as Replica installed itself on my machines, Windows Explorer began to crash repeatedly anytime I right-click on a file. I finally gave up and uninstalled it.
Summary: If Seagate ever fixes the Windows crashing problem, I'll go back to using this, but until then, there are many other options available.

"Got me out of a jam with my sons business laptop" on by connellyse
Pros: Back up is very simple, just plug in the drive and backup is automatic
Cons: A little slow, Vista does not recognize.
Summary: My son's business laptop was not booting correctly and I had just done the backup a couple of days before. I followed the procedure to restore the laptop from the replica drive and in 3 hours the 120GB drive was restored and the laptop was working perfectly. I have 5 Windows XP P.C.'s and 1 vista P.C. It backs up the XP P.C.'s very easily but the Vista does not recognize it. That is OK though since it fixed my son's Compaq laptop. It paid for itself.

"easy to use but unreliable" on by DCK1950
Pros: It was easy to plug in and ran in the background regularly. Tech support was prompt, courteous, and helpful but couldn't solve the problem.
Cons: My desktop internal Seagate drive failed. It was backed up to Seagate Replica. When I tried to restore, the replica was corrupted. If the drive fails and email/chat tech support can't fix it, there's a charge for tech support. Really annoying.
Summary: When the email and chat tech support people couldn't get me access to the backed up files on the Replica, they referred me to telephone support. Catch --there's a charge for "premium" support unless the drive fails within 30 days, even if the chat/email tech support can't solve the problem.
The problem was that the drive software had not run. Giving up on tech support, I clicked on "run". Now I can see the files, but I still can't restore them because Windows explorer crashes when I try to explore the Seagate drive.
This is not helpful -- if the drive fails in 30 days, I want a refund. If it fails in use, I need tech support especially when it looks like the failure of one Seagate drive corrupted the Seagate backup.
I have spent two days trying to recover critical files. I have 455 gig of a 500 gig drive occupied with business data and programs and can't access the data.
Bottom line -- my replacement drives will not have Seagate labels.

"Does not work with Win 7" on by ger_xxxx
Pros: NOTHING since it doesn't install or work...although it says that the install is correct, and that there are no compatibility issues.
Cons: Does not work with Win 7; Seagate support is outrageously behind. Tech wanted to take over my comp to fix the thing, but he didn't know what a Virtual Machine was....I have Virtual XP on my Win 7, and it took MSFT several hours to set it iup.
Summary: This thing simply does NOT work with Win 7, I downloaded 3 different drivers, none of which worked. It set itself up as an E drivie, when my E is a DVD...duh. I went up through 5, that's 5 levels of tech support to finally get someone who offered a Black Armor PS110 in exchange. Replica does not work with Win 7 unless Seagate support tinkers with it...or so they say. Frankly, I did not trust their tech support, and their warrantee allows only an exchange and NO REFUND unless purchased on their own site, and that within 30 days. Stay tuned for a report on how the PS110 does with Win 7..,I'm skeptical.
