"failed after a few days of transfering files"
Pros: lovely compact case
Cons: lost all of my saved data
Summary: I just started using this drive a few days ago. I purchased it because I would be traveling over the next several months and I needed to free up space on my hard drive. My intent was to transfer files from my Powerbook g4 to an external drive for which I purchased this drive. I started transferring files a few days ago and found the process to be slow and sluggish whether I was using my power book (which is 3 years old) and my new eMac, but I wasn?t having any problems, until now. As I was transferring files from a folder I got a message that it could not transfer a certain file. So I minimized the drive window so I could look at the folder. When I went to look for the drive its icon was gone. So I unplugged the drive and and waited a few seconds before reattaching it. I got a note that the drive could not be read and did I want to initialize it. I didn't want to erase all of the files I had transferred so I said no.
Since than I have not been able to get it to boot from any of my three computers. I have tried different USB sockets to no avail. It appears I have lost all of my data. According to the website my drive can be replaced but lost data will not. Price of recovery is 3 or 4 times what I paid for the device at Staples.
If this review had been written the first couple of times I used it. It would have given it a 5 star rating but now it doesn't even deserve one I would give it a zero if I could. I should have read the reviews on the internet before I was suckered by the price.
Before I could submit this site says a rating of 1 is really bad did I really want to submit such a low score. YES! YES! YES! What else can one say about losing files that would cost near $400 to replace and a worthless drive maybe to be replaced with another such drive?
