"I'd love it if it worked" on by mattsparrow
Pros: Value for the $
Cons: Battery life; MAJOR OVERHEATING
Summary: Got a great deal at Circuit City and was thrilled with the Acer Aspire 3000 for about six months. A RAM upgrade to 1GB made it super-fast, and it does everything I need it to. But the battery life went to maybe 30 minutes in that time, and now, not quite a year after purchase, it's developed an overheating issue which SUCKS. I got a CoolPad external fan setup, but running more than a couple programs or using the CD/DVD player/burner will heat it to 90C or more in minutes, and cause instant shutdown--save often! Finally downloaded a PowerNow! Dashboard Program and automatic voltage adjuster from the AMD Sempron website, which mostly keeps the temp below shut-down point--but it's still awful hot, which probably means a short chip life expectancy--and having to slow the machine down just to run it is counterproductive. AMD should not have released this unit without fixing this issue.

"Fantastic ------ A blast out of the box!" on by despin7
Pros: Everything I need and more-setup and online in 30min.
Cons: It aint a Ferrari-just a nice Park Avenue ride. Smooth
Summary: I paid $599 a week ago and I think I got a Mega Bargain-WI-FI and all. The only problem I ran into was using MSN software but what else is new. I wish it had better software but honestly I would rather pick my own. Smmoooth is the best way to describe this baby Acer Ferrari.

"I HATE this computer!!!" on by helmsmusic
Pros: 3 USB ports, internal bluetooth & wireless
Cons: constant freeze-ups, poor location of wireless & bluetooth switches, battery life
Summary: This computer SUCKS! I bought this computer after a problem with my Dell - the power cord on the Dell goes directly into the motherboard, and when the cord got bumped it broke the motherboard. I was told that the Acer wouldn't have this problem because of its construction, so I bought it. I have had nothing but problems since I bought it about a year ago. It will freeze up for no apparent reason, when it will not even shut down without holding down the power button. I have even wiped the computer and re-installed Windows, but to no avail. The on/off pushbutton switches for bluetooth and wireless are on the front of the computer, which means you are constantly bumping them and inadvertently turning them off. I think the dealer I bought it from (an authorized Acer dealer) screwed me over with the price too, because I paid $1200 for it, and this review talks about its affordability! I will NEVER buy another Acer!

"Do not waste your time or money!" on by abbfam
Pros: Very, very minimal.
Cons: Bad screens, over heats, shuts down for no reason, then it won't shut down when you want it to, etc. etc. etc......
Summary: I am not a computer wiz, all I wanted was a computer that did what is was supposed to do. I have friends with one, and they have had nothing but problems with theres also. I could never recommend an Acer computer to any one. Do not buy one of these!!!

"Great value laptop" on by rudradev
Pros: Good quality, attractive styling, runs cool, awesome price
Cons: Annoying 50/50 HD partition, needed 512 MB memory (easy , cheap upgrade), battery life
Summary: I got this machine in August '05 and have been very pleased with it from the first. To my mind I got a tremendous bargain in a fun to use, handsome laptop. The memory up grade was easy to do and is a must. I was disappointed with the batery life, but since I don't use my machine away from a power source for more than a short (very short) while, this is not a problem. If you need a truly mobile machine, the Aspire 3000 may not be your best choice. For me, though, seven months later, I am still very happy with my choice in budget laptop.
