"Comes out of the box with a Trojan virus" on by mssucks666
Pros: Its a good unit, but Acer has poor support, and their web site is not updated. Often impossible to find drivers, software updates, firmware for anything.
Vista has been improved from a year ago, faster, numeric keyboard on a small notebook is unique.Cons: This unit comes with bloatware, such as Acer Gamezone (Oberon Media) that has a Trojan Horse - Trojan.Zlob.
Acer needs better QA and testing before shipping.
Contacting Acer support is often frustrating at best, unresponsive at worst.Summary: Hardware itself seems ok. Buyer should be capable of configuring Vista to be user friendly, and scanning and cleaning immediately out of the box, as this unit comes pre-infected with Trojan.Zlob.
I purchased 3 units and all 3 had the same problem. Antivirus and Malware detected Trojans from the Backspin Billards bloatware pre-loaded on this machine.
If you are unable to clean and detect the infections yourself, professional cleanup costs may exceed price and value of this unit.
Uninstall the McAfee Security disappointment that is pre-loaded. -
"Great netbook notebook!" on by Randy726
Pros: Price. You cannot beat the price with the features provided.
Size. Small enough to be portable, but powerful enough to handle everyday computing needs.
Ease of use. Setup was breeze. Vista runs fine on this machine.Cons: Weird size for a computer screen. With the 16:9 ratio you get less square inches than a 15.4 inch at a 16:10 ratio, and it looks a bit squat. Extra scrolling needed to view web pages or documents as compared to mainstream laptops.
Summary: My wife's HP zv5340 (4yrs old) had a motherboard problem, and it was going to cost $450+ to get a motherboard to replace it. We saw the ad for the Acer and went to BestBuy to check it out. It was perfect. Cost was less than fixing her old laptop, and the Acer had more memory, bigger hardrive, faster processor, etc.. The screen looked smaller than the other 15.4 in screens, but we quickly realized it was because of the 16:9 aspect ratio. Buying experience was great, the sales associate was knowledgeable, and said these computers were flying off the shelf.
Got it home, and the setup was a breeze. It found my wireless network, and getting on the internet was simple. My wife loves it. She has carried it around for the last few days, and keeps thanking me for finding it for her. Most of her tasks are budgeting, word processing, spreadsheets, email, digital photos, etc., so it was a great buy for her. So far, no issues with excessive heat, but lots of crapware. I recommend removing all of it.
Price and purchase was so good, I am thinking about getting another one for my 15yr old son, instead of standing in line for 5-7hrs on Black Friday to get the $299 laptop deals that probably don?t measure up to this one. -

"Same as the 5735-4774" on by fateisbelieving
Pros: Had this one for almost a year. Still working good. I have reformatted several times trying different operating systems. Now I am running WIndows 7 with no problems. Overall a good laptop.
Cons: The Windows Vista that was on this one was slow. I took it off and put Ultimate, then xp, and now 7. Xp was good but had some bug issues.
Summary: Good for everyday use. No real hard gaming. Plays Halo 2 well which has great graphics. Its worth the 399 I paid for it at Best Buy.

"Great Alternative to a Netbook" on by coldfusion1787
Pros: - Has a real processor, celeron dual core, which is much better than an Atom processor.
- Great Value
- Reliable, the 5315 has not given me any problems yet.Cons: - Battery life is only about 2 hours on low settings and minimal tasking.
- Touchpad is jumpy, but upgrading the BIOS fixes that.
- Comes with Windows Vista.
- Flimsy back cover.Summary: This is a great value PC, and a great alternative to a netbook if your looking for reliable performance for office work, photo editing, and low end gaming. If your a fan of XP over vista, or better yet want better performance, I recommend setting up a dual boot with Windows XP, as this laptop is definitely faster on XP. One note about the heatsink, once your computer is out of warranty, open it and peel off the tape on the CPU heatsink, and you'll notice via speedfan that the temperature will be lower by 10-15 Celsius. Maxing out the memory would not hurt, but if your running XP there should not be much of a need to max it to 2 GB.
