"Consumer Alert: Not all models support 1080P" on by BobInTx
Pros: Absolutely stunning for the money*
Cons: *Be careful which model you are sold
Summary: There is a problem with several retailers selling the Acer Aspire 8920-6837 and 8920-6048, but delivering the lesser powered 8920-6961. The -6961 version has a display that is HD+ compatible with a maximum resolution if 1680x945 even though every sticker document for the product says is is "full HD 1080P". You cannot see the model number on the outer box, so you don't know if it is the right version until you buy it and open the box. So, if you buy an 8920 that won't let you change the display settings to 1920x1080, take it back to your retailer for a refund as it is most likely the wrong model.

"Great Laptop Great Price, Overall great purchase" on by damavr
Pros: Huge screen, no problems what so ever, 2nd hard drive bay available.
Cons: Acer website
Summary: I have read multiple reviews some good some bad but I got this at a great price and decided to give it a try and if I did not like it in 2 weeks I was going to return it to the seller.
Well I am glad I decided to get it. The reasons:
1. Huge 18" crystal clear screen. Watched a few movies on it with the build in blu-ray and the picture is amazing, Sound was good also, but I would have though I would be able to put it at a higher level but it is still sufficient.
2. Taking the back panel is a matter of 5-6 phillips screws and then you have access to a second sata hard drive bay that is empty. I bought a 60GB solid state disk and copied the windows drive (the system comes with 2 partitions, one operating system, one data). Then I made the SSD drive the primary and booted the system with that drive. It nows turns on amazinging fast (it was fast out of the box) but now it rivals the mac's startup.
3. The windows scores are all 5.9 and 5.6 with memory being the lowest at 5.1 (DDR2 - memory). I run the test through PCpitstop that compares systems and this laptop ranked at the top 3% and considering a prive of around $1k this is great.
4. You get lot of software through ACER that are loaded in the computer, some are good some are junk and I removed the ones that I did not find useful without any problems.
I have used it now for a week with out any issues. battery lasts about 1.5-2 hrs but considering it powers an 18" screen this is pretty good. This is a large laptop and is more of a replacement for a desktop. You can hault this around but this is not what this laptop is intended for. If you are on the move all the time I would recommend staying with a 15.4 laptop but if you are looking for a desktop replacement and want something that is portable this is obe of the best systems around when you compare price versus performance. It even comes with a remote control so you can sit back and enjoy a blu ray movie and control the laptop with the remote.
Overall I have to say that this exceeded my expectations. It also comes with 3 yr warranty. -

Cons: Have not had it long enough yet
Summary: So far its a solid, good performing unit. again; I just got it.

"Great Machine" on by Ice4351
Pros: big screen-high def screeen-16X9 ration-blue ray player
Cons: not yet that I can find
Summary: I bought my 8920 from Meijer for $974. It is great for movies and I hooked up a outside TV tuner and can pull in both analogue and high def channels. You will love this machine, but from what I can see you will not find it for $974 any longer. They should have include 4mb ram instead of 3!
