"Low quality parts and service." on by sean_shooks
Pros: The computer looks great and was very inexpensive considering the specs. Incredible looking screen and is very large. A great desktop replacement if it wasn't for other issues.
Cons: Light plasticy feel overall. Fingerprints show very badly on the keyboard and media pad. Overheating issues with 9600m GT. Very quiet even if turned all the way up.
Summary: Screen stopped working the first day of use do to a driver issue. This model had no support section on the Acer website for the first three months that I owned it, that included no drivers to download. Recovery dics burned through their recovery software failed even though their software verified that they were successful. This forced me to reinstall windows and track down drivers as it was the third disc that failed to work meaning the first two discs had already wiped the HDD and started installing but would not proceed without a functioning third disc. Calling Acer led me nowhere, they said they had no info about this laptop yet, meaning no recovery discs as well. This lasted for three months before they could send me recovery discs to restore my computer to factory settings. More recently I have found the reason for poor frame rates in any video games that are played, the GPU (9600M GT) is overheating, 106° C, and automatically lowering its clock speed as a protection. Calling Acer support led me on a two-hour battle to convince them there was really an issue. During the call I had to explain what a GPU was, what overheating meant to which I was told after consulting with her manager that it was completely normal and I must be running software that wasn't compatible with my video card. I was also told that "war games or games about war are especially not supported by your card" since I had used World of Warcraft as an example of my issues. Once I requested to talk to her manager she said I would be told the same thing but she would "see if any were available", after some time on hold I was told there were none available but they agreed to take a look at my laptop at my shipping expense. The email I received regarding the repair request included her notes, "L2 rob authorized repair, cu will pay inbound shipping. Television, games, etc, "anything that uses gpu heavily" Cu said. Send in to have tech look at. L2 and tm also agrees nothing showing wrong with system or video card." Concerned that nothing would be looked at since the notes said they were still sure nothing was wrong I called again. This time immediately requesting to talk to level 2 support. My request was denied and was told "I've worked here longer than any of them and they will tell you the same thing." After some time of attempting to explain what was wrong I was told "You should have just said you have a video card issue, you've told us too much now", not sure what that was to mean since I haven't attempted to fix the issue myself with AS5 as the laptop is very new. Once I was transferred to level 2 the technician immediately agreed with me that I have a faulty GPU or an issue with the cooling hardware for the GPU, noting my account as such. I am still being made to pay shipping to Acer however as I was told that is simply their policy for in warranty repairs.

"Poor build quality, Appalling Customer service" on by ConorW
Pros: This Laptop is good for the first few days until it dies.
Cons: I have owned this laptop for 11 months. In that time it has been back to the manufacturer's 5 times for various repairs. Acer refuse to replace the item or issue a refund, so I am currently in litigation with them to retrieve a refund and costs.
Summary: Terrible customer service. Support centre is in India, where representatives have little technical knowledge and poor English. I have spent countless hours on the phone to this support, lost data from 2 serious system failures and I have been without a Laptop for approximately half the time I have owned this machine, while it was away for repair. I literally would have been better off if I had thrown the money away instead of buying this machine.

"Great laptop. until it decides to die" on by bigfoot_64
Pros: HUGE screen is great. With Blu-ray its amazing. HDMI out is very helpful and multi media interface is useful and handy to have. thats pretty much all thats good on this laptop
Cons: This laptop is cheap, not good. have hap laptop for 4 mo. and have had 3 problems with it. 1. webcam was cracked blurry when bought. 2. power cord plug. The wires inside managed to disconnect. Final screen in now starting to flicker.
Summary: overall this laptop is cheap. Remember its an ACER...would not recommend this to anyone. Overheats easily and shut off without warning. Very accident prone. And good luck when trying to get it repaired from Acer. Their customer service is HORRIBLE! They refused to fix/replace my broken webcam, when the webcam was broke when I bought it. And another case of there horrible customer service, I was forced to spend $80 to backup data from the laptop which in the end i didn't even need to do, because I had to send the laptop in for repair. I needed to send it back to fix the wires that came loose from inside the laptop to charge it. And now to top it off my screen is now starting to flicker. What is causing this? I don't know. But if it is like the rest of the laptop, its probably something due to the cheap quality of this laptop. So for those looking at getting this laptop. PASS! This laptop looks amazing yes. But remember its an Acer. It's cheap. and it WILL crap out on you. for the money spent. your better of getting something else. CHEAP Acers.

"Not ready for all Windows 7 features" on by ACERsucks
Pros: Big screen if you continually adjust the angle.
Cons: No bios method to enable hardware Virtualization technology. This means you cannot run XP Mode in Windows 7.
Summary: Too much money to pay to be embarrassed by lack of functionality. Why did the CNET reviewer fail to attend to this issue? Who is helping whom?

"Awesome gaming laptop!" on by mbuza
Pros: touch media controls, great graphics card, huge screen, fingrprint reader
Cons: touch volume can be sketchy sometimes, huge screen
Summary: There isn't enough that can be said about this laptop. The touch pad media controls are awesome. When I listen to music while gaming, changing/pausing a song is simply a touch away instead of switching windows. However, sometimes the touch pad doesn't respond as well as I expected. While the big screen is a plus, it doesn't fit into the bag I have always used for laptops. Other than that I have absolutely no complaints. I have not had any major errors or problems. The 64 bit Vista Ultimate has ran smoothly. On my last laptop, the fingerprint reader stopped working fairly quickly. It would read my fingerprints but no matter how many times I reconfigured it, it always said it was not a match. This started roughly 3-4 months after I got it. This laptop has not had any issues with the fingerprint reader after 6 months! I can't think of a single thing that this is missing. The lack of Blu-Ray does not concern me at all.
