Thin-and-light laptop computer
A thin-and-light laptop computer offers the optimal combination of portability, performance, features, and cost. Power-tuned mobile processors deliver enough power to keep you working smoothly, and unlike ultraportables, most thin-and-light laptops have a more reasonably sized keyboard and display, a larger hard drive, and a built-in optical drive. Yes, they're more expensive than slightly larger, heavier mid-size laptops, but if you need maximum productivity in a portable package, this is the best choice.

Home user laptop computer
Home users are increasingly turning to notebook computers as their primary PCs, as they like that laptops can offer similar performance and features to those of a desktop PC, and can be easily moved from room to room. CNET product brief
Description: The Acer Aspire Timeline 4810TZ-4011 is a 4.2-pound, general-purpose notebook computer.Compared to other general-purpose notebooks on the market, it is very inexpensive at around $535.The 14 inch widescreen has a native resolution of 1366 x 768, which is better than most laptops.Built around the Intel Pentium chip. This notebook has a 320GB hard drive and 3 GB of RAM.
Pros: Has only a 4.2-pound weight, which is somewhat lighter than some similarly priced notebooks.By way of comparison, the typical cost of a product with this light a weight is $1,370.Includes an HDMI port so you can easily output the notebook's audio and video to a compatible TV or monitor. The EPA has classified this laptop as Energy Star compliant because it has built-in power management features. An anti-theft security tether can be fastened into the built-in lock slot.
Cons: Has only 64MB of video RAM, which is less favorable than some similarly priced notebooks. For example, the HP Pavilion dv2-1110us, a 3.7-pound notebook at around $570, has 512MB of video RAM.The poor battery performance of this notebook means it has to be recharged more often than other laptops in its class.Shared video memory has a negative impact on system performance which may be okay for users with more modest graphics needs.Users with more demanding needs should look to a graphics solution that brings its own muscle.
Suitability: A general-purpose notebook, suited for general mobile computing. If you have a wireless network at home, wirelessly browse the Internet from any room in your house with this Wi-Fi enabled notebook.Comes with a DVD burner, allowing you to convert home movies from your digital camcorder onto DVDs.
Value: Given its very inexpensive price, this notebook has great features for the money. For example, when it comes to screen size, the average price of consumer level products with a similar screen size is considerably more -- in fact around $679.Generally, not targeted at the gaming crowd, this computer will likely fulfill more modest laptop needs.
Suggestions: (1) Given this device's Wi-Fi capability, you may want to get a wireless access point for your home, so that you can browse the Web more conveniently from any room.(2) The integrated camera, while it does not have the resolution of most digital cameras, can be handy if you want to video conference over the Web.
