"Great Value - INCREDIBLE CUST. SERVICE"
Pros: The best price-to-horsepower ratio on the market. Flawless out of the box. But when it failed in 30-days, the ACER Customer Service folks were easy to contact, and solved the problem quickly
Cons: A little skimpy on auxiliary connections - but that's a fair tradeoff for the low price. Plenty of USB ports, and that's what I really needed
Summary: Nobody likes to have a unit fail, but that's when the real "character" of the company shows. Within the first month, my Acer really died. A call to their 800 Cust Svc line was answered within minutes. A couple of tests and the prepaid label arrived the next day. They communicated their receipt of my notebook and it was back to me repaired in 3 days. My last notebook from Compaq got lost in their repair facility when it needed to be returned for a CD drive replacement. It took Compaq 4 weeks to admit the problem and send a replacement. Needless to say, the Acer experience was so much nicer.
I've taken a cross-country trip with my Acer TravelMate - and I'm not sure where the concern on inadequate battery life comes from. I turned off the internal Wi-Fi radio (a quick software click) and was able to watch a 90-minute DVD movie AND play a few hands of Solitare before landing - and battery meter showed 50% still left.
I was thrilled to get XP Pro in a budget machine. Pro's Remote Desktop and the built-in Wi-Fi make me a real "Road Warrior" - I love logging back on to my office computer and being able to work from nearly everywhere.
This is my 4th Notebook computer - and so far, I like it the best. The Acer name isn't too well known, but it will grow if they keep up the great value and excellent support.
