"Excellent choice"
Pros: Good performance, display quality
Cons: Acer lacks good after sales support
Summary: TravelMate 4060 is my first laptop ever and I am very impressed. Performance is nearly as good as my AthlonXP 2800+ desktop system. Display is bright and clear with acceptable viewing angles. Keyboard is comfortable and touchpad is responsive. A tip for new 4060 users is that when touchpad becomes non responsive or erratic, it means the machine is heating up. So shift to a cooler place, lower the CPU frequency or in BIOS options, switch fan to always on.
One thing disturbing is the lack of interest of Acer towards after sales support. All drivers listed on their site are outdated. The default touchpad driver supplied with machine didnt support non MS apps such as firefox. I had to install the generic driver from manufacturer's site to make it work, and the worst thing is that Acer didnt even mention the issue on their site, wheras Dell was already providing updated drivers.
If you need extra battery life, invest in a bigger battery or carry extra one. My machine when fully recharged lasts upto two hours on default battery settings (medium CPU speed and 40% brightness) and thats just enough for me.
Bottom line, at this cost, its hard to buy a better laptop.
