"Broken out of the box..."
Pros: Nice display and speakers
Cons: Would not power on out of the box
Summary: I purchased an Alienware laptop as a Christmas gift. My partner was excited to begin using it so he plugged it in hit the power switch and nothing. No lights, no post screen, nothing! We called AW and the tech was very nice and helped us through reseating the memory and then resetting the BIOS. The system worked fine for a couple days and then again it would not boot up so we contacted AW. They had us reset the BIOS again and recommended that we upgrade the BIOS. We went to the AW web site to download the firmware when we noticed that the version the tech wanted us to install did not support the OS we are running. After discussing this with the tech and being put on hold for a while the tech agreed that we should not do the upgrade. A few days later the system would not boot up again so we called AW. They said they felt it was a motherboard issue and that we needed to send it to them for repair. We shipped the system to them. It was only seven days and the system arrived back. We took it out of the box, plugged it in and it would not come on. We called AW and they said all they did was replace the CMOS battery. We expressed our frustration to the tech who in turn put us on hold while he relayed our frustration. When he came back he said a manager would give us a call within 24 hours with our next step. We are now waiting to hear back. All we can say at this point is DO NOT buy an Alienware system.
