i can go on and on about the problems i have had with the laptop, customer service, warranty, even components that were never installed that i had paid for, but all i want to know is how to get involved with this lawsuit. i keep buying parts to keep this machine breathing but things are frying left and right, and of course the warranty just ended

I have an "AREA-51M 7700 5.3 GREY 17" XGA W/OUT CAM" I am on my 2nd graphic card (which recently fried). My warrenty JUST ended in June or July, so basically I am screwed. I've also had many many other problems with this notebook however my current problem is what led me to this page
Here is a screenshot of the warrenty work that I've had done. There are a number of other issues with my notebook, that I've just worked around instead of contacting Alienware about because I dread the long hours spent on the phone to Tech support. Which are very hard to understand, English seems to be their 2nd language & they also seem to have a hard time understanding me too. AND, I also hate sending the notebook in because it seems to take about 2 months for each repair.

Any advice on what I should/could do would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance to everyone reading this. -

Awesome post! I bought a dell, absolutely hated it and the customer service. That left only alien and HP left. This info has definitely helped me make a good choice. I can't say thx enough!!!

i registered here just so i could write this.i myslef have a alienware area51m-7700.
i too bought into the advertisement...i must admit i HATE this company so much...but im not gonna get into all of that.well my lappy fried.it literally went up in smoke.i opened it up to see where the smoke came from.my motherboard was fried.after calling alienware and finding my warranty not valid (litteraly days after) i had to investigate like crazy to find a solution to get my $4000 boat anchor fixed and i wasnt about to give alienware another dime.especially finding out that they have techs and service, etc in costa rica and other places...another crappy thing was the fact that you CANT BUY this damn MB anywhere cause nobody has it!!!
well the solution to all customers who bought this laptop/notebook is a company called widowpc.com.they cater to alienware customers who got screwed and they do better parts and SERVICE and warranty!!! they solved my problem, replaced and fixed everything that was wrong(not just the MB,the cpu, AND ram stick!).tested it like crazy and returned it to me working in tip top shape.better than it did when it was new!
if anybody is interested in buying this particular unit than buy one thru widowpc.they have the same shell (without eyes) but like i said before, better parts, service, warranty, texh support,EVERYTHING... -
I spent $3202.00 on an Area-51 less than 14 months ago and have already had to send it from Europe for repair once. It has not worked for the past 6 months since returning from repair. Since I am going back to the US, I planned on taking the laptop with me to send to Alienware. I have just learned that they will not accept the laptop for repair because it is discontinued and they cannot recommend anyone who can fix it. They simply say "sorry". This company is unbelievable. I would love to join a class action, especially if it prevents them from continuing to rip off people like they have me.

this company could care less about consumers. MY 7700 is brand new, feb 1, 2006 and they want me to send it back in for 3 weeks to have it fixed, after i waited 3 weeks to get it. I explained that i bought the computer for my restraunt, and tech support said that i needed to buy onsite support which i did. After all this they wont send someone out to fix a very simple problem. i want to join this lawsuit and am going to send my information right now.

Spread some light on the lawsuit. As you read in my opinion, I think Alienware is evil. All they do is take apart Prostar notebooks and put them in their Alienware cases. They put you on hold for 10-30 minutes hoping you'll hang up, then they tell you to send the system in to the shop. They hold it until the warranty runs out and send it back saying everything is ok. And since they say it's throughly checked when it left the shop you can't tell them they never fixed the problem. E-vile.
