"The Ultimate Gaming Machine" on by benburnside

    Pros: Excellent Graphics

    Cons: Lacking Processor Power

Summary: I collect custom high performance computers, and this is one of the Best laptops/Desktop Replacements I have ever seen. I would like to say you could compare this to the Hypersonic Aviator EX7, but actually when I think about it the Alienware mALX comes into its own league when it comes to graphics & Performance. I currently own the Hypersonic Aviator EX7, Alienware Aurora mALX and the Dell XPS M1710, and in my opinion the Alienware Aurora mALX is definitely the upper-most best. The only let down of the Alienware Aurora mALX is the processor. Unlike the Dell XPS M1710 which has a Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33Ghz processor this has an AMD Turion™ 64 Mobile processor (2.2Ghz/2.4Ghz), which is a slight let down, but it can easily be forgotten when you actually experience the sheer power of the Alienware Aurora mALX.
I game a lot on all of the three mentioned laptops, but I still find the Alienware Aurora mALX out-performs the other two laptops by far. Also for graphical design and graphical rendering the Alienware Aurora mALX is a perfect choice, due to the available 1GB Graphical Memory.

"Over Priced shoddy customer service!" on by the1stdude

Pros: Awesome for gaming. Specialized support

Cons: Come on?! It's to big to be a laptop 19"? To expensive.

Summary: I have an Alienware laptop, not this one, but let me offer some warning. It has had a couple of problems with the optical drive now, it took Alienware 7 months and cost me 120 dollars to figure out that it wasn't a software problem. I had to buy an external to back it up. Then they sent me a used replacement optical drive, then a new one when it didn't work or fit and after I yelled on the phone that warranteed parts should be brand new not refirbed. Then they forgot to tell me to keep the bezel off the original, because the new one wouldn't ship with one on it. So they shipped me a new one yesterday that does not fit. I'm looking forward to calling them again and getting hassled about not being under warranty. It's probably a great laptop, but I would shop around. It is way overpriced, it only comes w/ a gig of RAM and then you have to pay 300 for another gig. That's dumb crazy. It should come stock w/ RAID 0, 2 gigs and you shouldn't have the option to pick the lower end graphics card. It should come loaded for 5k$. This laptop screams "the guy that owns that is either dumb or rich" because it is impractical. You will not be able to play it full steam w/out being plugged in to a receptacle. Trust me mine won't and it's a M5500 loaded to the gills. If you are sucker enough to buy it, buy the biggest warranty they got! By the way, Alienware didn't tell me my warranty expired like they're supposed to and even though the problem was still during the warranty period, when I called they tried to charge me 40$ to order the piece that they forgot about. I told them I wanted to speak to a manager and they hung up on me after waiting on hold for an hour. Think hard about it! Oh by the way, the internal wireless card is junk. Count on it working ocassionally, but not when everyone else's is.

"Bad. BAD. Deprication of hardware quality RIFE!!" on by Cattatra

    Pros: ...Big screen
    ...umm...
    ...Looks good airbrushed

Cons: Graphic cards and Motherboard replaced twice, needs a third now.
    Small HDD
    Heavy
    USB's easily damaged

Summary: The Laptops motherboard and Graphic card(s) went after a reasonable amount of time, then 8 months later, and now, 3 months after that, they've gone again.

Anyway, what else. It's heavy, bowls me over all the time, tho I am tiny :) The backpack is massive, I look crushed whenever I use it.

USB ports seem to have problems after a while, lose connection sometimes, or take time and wiggling to get working.

...I cant think of good points, I'm in a negative about it atm, trying to get it repaired isnt fun.

"Over priced. Slower than you think..." on by farroyo2k5

    Pros: Great Display
    Good camera

    Cons: Bulky
    Heavy
    Slow
    Over heats quickly
    Very poor battery life

Summary: I use this PC for drafting (AutoCAD, Pro E, etc..) It runs those programs about as good as any other PC with 2GB of ram. Traveling with this machine is not easy. It's way to heavy and just plain bulky. Not worth the price my company paid for it. To give you an idea of how slow it is running. I'm trying to play an HD movie trailer using quicktime and it took about a minute and a half just for quicktime to start up. The movie began to play and then stop, d/l some more, than stop again...

Bottom line... not worth it's price tag...
