"Portable and Powerful Sub 15" laptop" on by Alyx314

Pros: 1.6ghz dual core processor, DDR3 ram, 1g Nvidia GPU, Integrated Intel GPU, 11" LED backlit screen, Bluetooth, HDMI Port, VGA Port, Back lit Keyboard, Easy Overclocking function, Great Cooling design.

Cons: No 10key pad, No WiMax support

Summary: When I set out looking for a laptop I needed something with great display, HDMI port, decent GPU and processor, 10key pad, and DDR3 ram, and was small enough to travel with a reasonable battery life and most importantly was under $1500. This was the ONLY machine on the market that even came close to those specifications.
I spent over a month shopping for reasonable laptop that didn't sacrifice power for size with my handful of ideal bells and whistles and few came close. I began searching netbooks on a whim and was stunned at the specs on the M11x. While it does not have WiMax or a 10key pad that i would find conviniant for 3D meshing and data entry but this small beast more than compensates for those lack of features with others that i would find just as useful. I had in mind that I also would like to have a 1080p display, this is not possible on the M11x 11" display as it only goes up to 720p. But once again it has overcome this drawback by allowing 1080p output via its HDMI port making anything that can receive HDMI a possible display option. Any doubt I had about this tiny spaceship was put to ease on hardwareheaven.com when they put it through the steps and rated it over a 10 out of 10 meaning it performed better than any netbook on market and better than all full general use laptops. Over Clocking is another rich feature of the M11x as reviewers all say that after 30 minutes of gameplay it only rose one degree in temperature on average leaving no reason to not enable this setting in the bios for any gamer looking to get everything they can out of this machine.
The M11x has taken features not common on netbooks and made them standard to compensate for many components that are lacking in netbooks and in most cases full laptops while still being untraportable and powerful.
I have ordered one and felt that my research in deciding on this machine was worth giving it an initial review before I received it in march. I have built tower PCs for years and have been skeptical about making the transition to laptops as they are not as easy to repair and upgrade, however; I now have a need to be mobile and out of hundreds of laptops I have tested for friends and the thousands that I have read reviews for myself, the M11x is the first one that has ever blown me away like this. I am now considering this as my desktop replacement and will use my PC for only high GPU intensive projects or gaming. and having a VGA port means my monitor is not going to waste either. I will write a full review as soon as I have received my M11x, and I suggest anyone who is considering ordering one that they do so as soon as possible because you can expect this badboy to be on back order for a while once the first few hit the streets and CNET gives it a full review.

And to all those fanboys of apple that like to troll about what they cant have because its not branded with half eaten fruit, lets see an apple netbook or tablet that comes CLOSE to the M11x's size AND power.

"Great Potential; poor customer service; horrid quality!" on by SpartySAM

    Pros: Size
    Design
    Ability to overclock the processor

    Cons: Poor quality control
    Poor customer service
    Lack of dvd burner
Options can quickly drive the price up.

Summary: I decided to buy this system as a strictly gaming computer based on numerous reviews. The first one arrived and within one day I found a quality problem -- the bottom plate had been pushed in. This resulted in several screws being pulled out with the threads being pulled out. I called customer service (try making sense of Alienware's customer service system - it is interested) only to be transferred three times and being put on hold for over 30 minutes. When I finally got to speak to someone, the call was cut. Try again. This time, I was able to get to someone in customer service after a wait of 40 minutes. Their solution -- to send me a new bottom plate (even though I explained that it would not work because the anchors in the body had the threads stripped out). I received it -- it did not work. I immediately called customer service -- four transfers later, I am talking with someone who promises a new system within 10 business days. Well, over 30 days late, I get the system. Unfortunately, it does not work -- all the symptoms point to the motherboard being DOA. At this point, I gave up and returned both systems. In today's world, there is no excuse for such poor quality control and customer service. This service is up there with HP in terms of horrid customer service. As a result, I will not buy another Alienware computer. This is not the way to build customer loyalty.

"An amazing little machine" on by dgomo

Pros: Compact, portable, lots of connectivity options, outstanding build.

Cons: Lacks a usb/esata combp port and usb 3.0 technology.

Summary: This is what the Dell XPS m1210 (which I also own) should have been upgraded to. I recently received this machine and was immediately impressed with its beauty and compactness out of the box. For its size, the keyboard is solid and I adjusted easily to it. The touchpad and buttons are very responsive and the screen is reasonable. I have tried the CPU at overclocked setting, but at normal setting the machine runs everyday tasks comfortably. I expect to seldomly need to overclock this thing. The included ports are fantastic for a laptop of this size.

Previously, for me, the XPS m1210 was, when released, the most functional laptop available, being able to function as a more than competent ultraportable or desktop replacement due to its power and wide selection of ports. This laptop, the m11x, easily surpasses it with the ability to game plus do all the things the XPS could do. My machine has the upgraded CPU, 8 gb RAM and the WWan option along with a 500 gb Hard Drive. At home its the centre of my multimedia experience with its ability to connect to everything.

I travel a lot for my job and do presentations. This machine is therefore ideal for me plus I can now travel with some big game titles. I haven't fully tested the battery but so far I have gotten over four hours at normal setting (CPU not overclocked). I am not too partial to the lighting and other effects though they are attractive. I may have to turn them off when working but that is no problem as this is very easily done by one combination of keys.

I am very satisfied with the CPU used, The machine stays very cool during normal operation and is very quiet. I also have no problem with the fact that Nvidia's Optimus wasn't included as I like the the idea of manually switching on/off the discreet graphics. This is done very easily and seamlessly on this unit. My only real grouses are with the usb. Usb 3.0 could have been included and one could have been made an esata combo.

This is a very beautiful, well-built and functional machine which should be taken as advertised. It may not be a machine for everyone. Personally, its the greatest and it cannot be intimidated by any other machine available on the market, all things taken into consideration. This machine fully lives up to its billing and achieves its purpose.

"Max LAN speed is 100 MB" on by CTSTechnology

    Pros: 2GB Video available

Cons: Max LAN speed is 100 MB
    Screen Glare
Heavy for a 12 inch Laptop

Summary: ***Max LAN speed is 100 MB***

Fancy lights cant make up for obsolete network speeds
    What a joke

When configuring the system during purchase there is no mention of LAN card. Buying a $1400 laptop in 2011 you would think GB LAN is a given; my four year old Toshiba had it standard. Never assume anything.

Only after reviewing the specs in device manager are you able to see what LAN card is included.
They use the term gigabit and 1000 in the name of the LAN & WAN controllers but neither is capable of GB networking

Yes, I know gigabit is 100MB but no one I know in the industry uses the term Giga anything unless it refers to 1000MB. This is clearly a deceptive business practice and should not be encouraged by buying any of their products

Customer service was no help, and in my opinion, is nothing but time suck meant to wear you down and give up, so reviews and boycotts are our only course of action

Feel free to repost this any where and everywhere

"A powerful machine within a netbook frame" on by Brmd_Sloop

    Pros: - very light
    - can be upgraded to your hearts content
    - backlit keyboard
    - I like the keyboard
    - Good screen res
    - and it looks awesome

Cons: - the alienware skin overlay annoys me.
    - small screen. I like that but some won't
    - The OS is a bit unstable (I think its Dell. It's not me... because this is my 4th dell and every time I have to do a clean install and I know its not a virus)

Summary: I think it is a solid laptop. It's small enough to carry around but powerful enough to handle nearly everything you need. It's not a top of the line gaming pc. It's just to small... but... with that said it still can play things like starcraft, supreme commander, etc at a good pace. Any average user will find that it is more than powerful enough for day to day stuff too. It's very light and has a pretty good battery life (lowest config 8.5 hrs with i7 its around 3.5 hrs).

I like it. I think that it is the best laptop in its price range, and I would recommend it for anyone who needs a small laptop that is easily portable but wants to have a smooth and responsive experience.

It also looks bad-ass btw!! ;)
