"this king of portables is powerful and gorgeous" on by herooftime
Pros: highly costomizable, excellent quality and support
Cons: none come to mind
Summary: this is the best thin and light on the market. my friend has an apple, and i suggest not venturing into a new OS for a computer that is not as good. dont even think about dells, my family has had 3 - all horrible quality and even worse costomer support. this computer gets a 9 from be becouse it performs like a beast, very cheap to upgrade, looks awsome, high quality build, and everything else that you can only get from alienware. i love mine more than i even thought i would (and i had very high expectations). it has a good battery life and good wireless. the monitor is awsome. power cinema is a great feature. yes, the base price costs more than other low quality thin and lights, but just wait for it to go on sale, which is nearly every month. i waited till they took off $500 and free shipping ($100 value). from the time i ordered it to when i got it was LESS than 2 weeks. that is fast building and shipping! i got the 2.0ghz processor (intel's mobiles are better than there p4s, so it runs similar to a 2.8-3.0 ghz p4), 7200 rpm 60gb hd, 1gb ram, wireless, 6x cd burner, 5.1 surround, and probably other stuff i forgot for only $1600. thats a steal! dont tell me they're expensive, that's much cheaper than the compatition. the only reason this didnt get a 10 is because its about 1.2" thick and not the advertised 1". i highly recommend this product.

Pros: Blazing Speed,Very Portable, Great Options for Customization, Good Customer Support
Cons: Price, Questionable Quality Control
Summary: I originally had ordered the Area 51m but then decided to change to the lighter more portable Sentia. The customer service people were more than accommodating. They happily changed my order, even though they had started building my Area 51. It arrived a little later than had been forecasted but still within a reasonable amount of time since ordering, about 2 weeks. The specs on mine were: 2.1 GHZ Pentium M, 2 Gigs of Ram and a 7200 RPM 60 Gb Hard Drive. The total price tag was a little less than $2,600 before the $400 rebate. As I said, it is costly.
MY ONLY MAJOR COMPLAINT. When I first turned the computer on I at once noticed there was no sound. Since I am somewhat technically adept I traced it down to a missing driver for the sound card. It took only a few minutes to install it, but it did bring up a few doubts as to how thoroughly they execute their 200 point quality control system.
Overall, I am very pleased with the computer, the screen is great, the speed is amazing, and the battery is quite good. Any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.Updated
As much as any company hates to admit it, none of them produce a consistently perfect product. Every company makes lemons, Alienware, Dell, Toshiba, and yes even Apple. It always good to take it with a grain of salt and keep in mind that people who are dissatisfied with a product are more inclined to spend their time posting about how poor a product it is.Updated
After about 6 weeks, I brought my Sentia with me to school after evacuating New Orleans (I was going to be a student at Tulane) and relocating to Austin. As I turned the computer on I almost immediately noticed something was wrong. To make a long story short in order to save you the reading. I found out later that the hard drive was severely corrupted. Luckily, for Alienware this occurred days after the money-back guarantee expired. Customer support changes drastically for the customers as soon as this happens. I never spoke to the same person twice. And in the end they acted as if they were doing me a favor by mailing me a new hard drive so that I could install it myself. It is unnacceptable for a product that cost this much to only function for a little more than a month. As of now I am talking with American Express and am considering legal action. -
"2 Ghz CPU and 2 Ghz RAM> speedy" on
Pros: Lots of ports; well-located. Beautiful screen; fast and light. DVD's are impressive, the Linux Cinemaware button (launches power saving DVD-only program) is fast and useful.
Cons: Yes, expensive...battery life isn't *quite* what it was made up to be....

"Absolutely horrible experience" on by SoccerPsycho
Pros: Worked for a while . . .
Cons: Customer service and Tech Support are appalling horrible.
Summary: My Sentia worked wonderfully upon receipt, until eight months in when the AC input snapped off. Alienware then refused to fix my part, saying it was no longer made. After having the part fixed by a local computer store and letters to the Better Business Bureau, I have discovered that I have a short farther up on my mother board because of poor initial construction. The laptop may work for a while, but if anything goes wrong, and I mean ANYTHING, expect to lose almost your entire investment.
