Pros: size - portability, power, durability,interface, options, asthetic, do i dare say sexy?
Cons: price, size - you need to make sure that 12" is enough screen or have enough $$ for extra monitor when at home
Summary: This is my first mac after a long line of pc's i have built. I needed a laptop, I had the student discount, an ipod and I was intrigued to use OS X. After ensuring ease of networking capability with windows and programs I love (adobe, office, etc), I got the more affordable, more portable 12" with all the fixins (except RAM which is priced outrageously from apple - thanks newegg).
So far, i have loved every moment of it including all the included apps, ilife, adobe and all of the addon programs such as vlc, youcontrol, itunescool, weather pop, etc easily dl'able from version tracker. so there is plenty of customization available BUT unlike pc's, my machine ain't slowing down. daily use is just as fast as day 1. chalk it up to memory management or whatever but using this thing is a dream.
PROS:
Honestly, and this may sound cheesy, but my mac has made me happier:
- I have had to restart the machine once in 10 months
- programs do hang up but with less frequency than pc and it quitting them is faster and easier
- i have to admit, i don't mind the aesthetics either. mod (modern) design is nice to look at when you spend a ton of time on the machine
- so much usability in such a little package - great for use anywhere
- uninstalling and installing programs: drag n’ drop
the only thing that i need is a 23" (apple) monitor so that i have a little more real-estate while at home.
CONS:
- more programs are made for pc's but as with any problem, you throw enough $ at the problem (virtual pc) you can do anything you want
- more expensive (than an "equivalent" pc)
- 12” has been getting me down so I just hook up my crt and things become better
WHO ITS FOR
Someone who is looking for portability, novice – advanced user, who is willing to learn to use a slightly different system (if switching from using a PC) in order to enjoy the previous list of PRO’s... -

Pros: The OS is possibly the best around.
Cons: Everything else.
Summary: I ordered a new powerbook G4 12" online directly from apple. On recieving it I noticed that the case was warped, and the screen damaged. I called apple immediatly (2 days after delivery) and informed them of the defective product, to my surprise, Apple refused to send me another item, and insisted that I drive an hour to the closest Apple repair center to get my new powerbook repaired. They shipped me a damaged product, and expect me to swallow it and settle for a repair. I opted to send everything back to them and ask for a refund, and they want to charge me a 10% return fee. This would have been my first Apple, but I think I will now stick to IBMs. If you care about the build quality of your hardware, and customer service, stay as far away from any Apple product that you can. It's a pitty, because OS X is the best OS out there, but as I have learned, Apple just plain sucks.

Pros: Well made. Keyboard. Small, light, full featured. Excellent battery life.
Cons: Nice if they threw in Quicken and Appleworks.
Summary: I switched from macs to PC's about 10 years ago but a recent trit to the Apple store convinced me to try coming back. I have been looking for a small personal notebook for some time. The 12 inch Powerbook was exactly what I had been searching for. 1.5ghz, 512 ram, 60g hard drive, full keyboard, built in cd burner and dvd player for $1500.
Price out similar PC notebooks and you will probably pay more. I flirted with the dell 700m but similiarly equipped it is $1300 and the keyboard is tiny and cramped and it feels cheap. CNET is dead wrong about macs being more expensive. Similiar Sony and IBM notebooks are much more expensive.
I am not a Win hater, WinXP and OSX are pretty much equals. This choice is based on the hardware. My wife fell in love with the new IMacs so it looks like we will be getting one of those by the end of the year. The OS is first rate and the hardware is just plain superior in looks, fit and finish, and operation.
I give it a 10 because it is exactly what I have been looking for.
