"Great, but..." on by heechy
Pros: Beautiful, thin, state of the art, fast
Cons: Logic board problems, short battery life
Summary: In all fairness, I think I was sold a lemon so my opinion is biased. I've had the computer for 1.5 years now and I've had the screen replaced once, logic board replaced twice, battery replaced and A/C adapter replaced. Also, when I received the product back from Apple Support, screws were worn out and unable to tighten, loose screw found under keyboard, and CD wouldn't eject properly.
Other than those problems, the machine is light enough to carry(not all the time), beautiful looking, fast for most applications(video and photo editing should be done on a faster desktop), ultra thin when you consider all that's in it, support was fast and curteous(but refer to above for issues), the OS is FAR superior than windows. This is my first MAC ever and the OS alone will most likely keep me a MAC user, despite my lemon. -

Pros: The "Quality" construction of this product. Bluetooth. Back-lit keyboard. The Tried and True "Powerbook" formula of power, durability, and mobility.
Cons: Fast G4 processor, but I'm an Apple loyalist and want a G5! $2,300 and I get 2 X 256 MB of RAM?!?!? ***?!?! Apple Care an extra $200-300? Ouch...Oh wait did I mention you should probably add an iPod?
Summary: I bought a Powerbook G4 Titanium 400 Mhz when they first came out 4 years ago. Now, I own a fourth generation Powerbook G4 Alumuminum 1.5 Ghz model. It's amazing the see the subtle, yet very obvious changes that Apple has made over the years. When I first had my Powerbook g4 Ti, I praised its sturdyness and firm feel. Now, 4 years later I feel as though my old Powerbook is going to break apart when compared to the stiffness and solid construction of the new one. Notes the hinges and bolts Apple used to use to fix the display to the notebook. Before it was 2 separate hinges, now the display is fixed onto a one-piece solid aluminum bar fixed onto the notebook. Subtle differences, but damn important ones that enhance the durability, functionality, and aesthetic beauty of the machine.
I consider Apple computers to be "boutique" computers in comparison to their PC bretheren. The Powerbook is no exception. I hold a Powerbook in my hands and I feel like I'm wearing an Armani suit. I hold a Dell Inspiron and I feel like I'm wearing Abercrombie cargo shorts and flip flops. The Powerbook is an exclusive notebook that provides its user with unmatched power, stability (refering to OS), and beauty. Although it's not cheap, I believe it is worth saving the extra couple of hundred dollars and upgrading over the iBook. The 15 or 17 inch screens should be able to convince you all by themselves.
It ain't cheap, but then again quality products such as this do not come around often.
*Highly reccomended, if you have the money. If you're on a budget, do yourself a favor and get the 12 inch and hook it up to an external display when you need the real estate for your projects. -

Pros: Sleek, sturdy, stylish, super thin and light, nice wide scren, backlit keyboard; all the stuff listed on the main cnet description. Plus it's really eye-catching! Super quiet.
Cons: Battery life could be longer.
Summary: Such a contrast from my Dell! This machine is so sturdy, while my Dell would creak just by moving the screen. I love how the powerbook display is so thin, and the aluminum enclosure is really perfect. I will be pleased with this machine for years to come.

"Apple Totaly Kicks Ass!" on by DooterDan
Pros: Absolutely EVERYTHING!
Cons: none really...but the keys are alum. too little weird to feel
Summary: I just got my PowerBook today and I absolutely love it. I opened the box read through the directs alittle and powered up. The set up as so easy, and entertaining too, music and a video. Totaly Awesome. The screen is big but not to big. Its the perfect size for a portable laptop but not give up on any of the goodies! Its wonderful to carry around. The screen is very well attached and is clear as day. The light up keys are a great help when working at night or in a dim room. I got mine with a DVD burner in it and its fabulous! I recently needed to get some files off my windows computer, boy tht was the worst thing ever! Im used to my new Apple that never crashes or freezes or even thinks for that matter, that getting back on the slow freezing Windows was a pain. Everyone should own a Apple. Laptop or desktop, they make great products. A little bit pricey, but you'll save down the road. AppleCare is important to think about too...because it covers everything, lie say if I dropped it and totaly screwed the LCD, Apple sends out a box,and within 2 days ill have a new laptop! A NEW LAPTOP! FREE OF CHARGE! I cant believe I didnt switch ealier. GET AN APPLE! USE YOUR APPLE A DAY, TO KEEP YOUR WINDOWS HEADACHES AWAY!

"Wow - Better than i expected it to be" on by Jon Lloyd
Pros: Battery life, OS X, size and weight, appearance
Cons: It gets very hot if run for too long
Summary: I have a 15-inch 1.5 G4 (the new model as of Jan 31 05) I'm posting here cause i looked for reviews on new models on this sight and couldn't find any so maybe this will help people who aren't interested in buying a new PB. This thing is amazing, I average a 3-4hr batter life under normal conditions (extended battery life setting but still running all programs normally and always running airport extreme). The OS is incredible, this is my first mac and after 5 days i haven't turned my PC on for anything other than to grab my music, pictures and school files. the downside is that it gets REALLY hot when run for a long time, A tech I spoke to said not to run it for more than 24hrs solid to be on the safe side, but it's a laptop, if you wanted something to run all the time you should have gotten a desktop, i can deal with a bit of warmth on my lap, heck when it's cold in the room it's even a plus. I'd recommend this to anyone interested, you won't regret it and the price (though a bit high) has proved WELL worth it. It's also VERY quite on accout of there being no fans!!!
enjoy
