"Excellent all around laptop that is a lot of computer for the money" on by tfortin
Pros: Hardware configuration, battery life, software suite, ease of setup and operation
Cons: Small speakers. No 3.5" drive.
Summary: I've got several PCs and a laptop running Windows XP, but this iBook that I bought for my wife ROCKS!
It's got all the hardware you need, a great software suite including Appleworks, and a built in wireless card that instantly found my Linksys wireless G router. Total time to get it up and running from the time I got it from the delivery guy -- about 6 minutes. Turned it on, answered some name and address questions and I was done. A far cry from what I go through when configuring a new PC.
My wife absolutely loves this unit because it's so intuitive and easy to use. Nothing to configure and nothing to install.
The only thing I can say that this unit is lacking is full, rich sound from the small built in speakers. It's got good sound. Better than others but not the best I've heard. Certainly not a disqualifier by any means.
It's been years since I worked with Apple computers and I have been thoroughly impressed with this excellent product. One of the criticisms I've read is that Apples are much more expensive than PC's, but I disagree. The advertised low cost units from PC manufacturers come with little to no software, and then you've got to add wireless cards, external drives, etc. The iBook comes complete and ready to run. Way to go Apple!! -

"PC fanatic becomes Apple lover" on by botje
Pros: Portable, Great battery life, Fast and it runs Mac OS X
Cons: No real cons
Summary: A few months I would have been characterized as a prototype Apple sceptic. During my student year I had been a computer salesman selling over a hundred Intel and AMD based computers all bundled with Microsoft's Windows operating system. I knew what of Apple and it's Macintosh operating system, but I didn't recognize its abilities (in my perception the only reason to buy an Apple was if you were considering doing graphical design work).
So, I had been using PCs for a several years (owned a 386, a 486, a Pentium, a PII, a PIII, a P4) untill last december when I decided to make the switch to the Mac platform. I had the opportunity to work on my colleagues' Powerbook for one hour. It was long enough to get convinced. The Mac OS X operating system works better (after 1 1/2 days of getting used to the different lay-out and interface) and I can use most of the programs I had been using on both my P4s (home and office).
Today both my P4s have been replaced by the iBook (which was intended as an extra PC) and I carry it back and forth to the office everyday with pleasure. To those people that bought a Windows machine based upon my advise: I am very sorry! Please replace that thing with a Mac. -
"Never going back to Windows." on
Pros: The screen is incredible. The wireless networking is superior to any Windows pc. If you're a student at a university with a Wi-Fi-enabled library, this is the notebook for you. I was surprised at how user-friendly Mac OS X is, and how quickly I learne
Cons: None.
