Pros: screen, keyboard, built-in camera, start-up time
Cons: runs hot, trackpad design, Mac Office
Summary: Sorry to crash the party but the new MacBook is incredibly disappointing. First off, you should know that I am an Apple aficionado from over 15 years ago. I have owned an Apple II, a Lisa, the first generation Mac and a Powerbook. At that time, Apple computers were truly innovative, user-friendly and virtually crash-proof. What a difference a decade makes! After 4 months of heavy use with the MacBook, here are the pros and cons:
PROS: Very fast start-up, reasonably bright and clear screen, excellent 'goof-proof' keyboard with large flat keys and some nifty function keys that instantly display all open windows or clear the desktop with a single stroke, good battery life (I get about 2.5 hours), no viruses with OSX.
CONS: White palm rest has already discolored and will not clean up, unit runs dangerously hot (I have burn marks on my left thigh!), touch-pad design is very poor -- because it is large and essentially integrated into the palm rest, I experience lots of cursor/page jumping and spurious, Mac Office is an unmitigated DISASTER -- programs do not run the same as they do under Windows and are slow, buggy and unwieldy. Worst of all, for the first time in my long history using Apple products, this computer hangs and crashes.
I never thought I would say this but I will be returning to a PC running Windows. The Macbook running OSX is a productivity killer.
