"1/2 of a perfect techno-couplet: MBA 11 inch and iPad"5.0 starson by docparkny
Pros: The MBA 11" perfect keyboard and trackpad . Screen real estate does not feel cramped compared to my MBP 15". Speed perfectly acceptable -like a Lotus having a perfectly matched, ultralight engine of 225hp.
Cons: Would like more battery life. With Flash on, it really does drain the battery fast. Really, Apple, couldn't you have drilled just one more hole for the SD card slot?
Summary: The MBA filled a void in my laptop bag after I dumped my hackintoshed Dell Mini 10V which was okay but for the miserable trackpad and short screen realestate. Strangely, the 11inch MBA does not feel cramped. The problem with going iPad only even with bluetooth keyboard is that you can't do all the content creation stuff that I do with just the iPad. Also, the bluetooth keyboard and even the keyboard dock kept unlinking from the iPad -haven't tried iOS 4.2.1 yet. No such issues or compromises with MBA. I haven't run across any moment where I thought I was giving something up on my MBP 15 inch or my desktop. Using AirDisplay, my iPad and MBA are a dual screen workstation. It is the finest laptop ever created. Don't listen to people having cramps about missing ports -when you need to stick in more than 1 peripheral to a laptop, you need a desktop. Lack of DVD read/write may be downer for some, but it will read off my MBP's drive for loading iWork and Office using AirDrive disk sharing.
The battery life is good for all day and the bootup time is phenomenal. Battery life is even better if I reserve web surfing and media consumption to my iPad.
In summary, the MBA is the perfect complement to my iPad and both together exceed the capabilities of the average 15inch workhorse laptop while being less bulky and lighter.
