    "Apple is turning into Sony."

by uhwuheuwihiuhbuegb on October 19, 2008

Pros: The new design is quite attractive.

Cons: like sony is going insane releasing a new version to the ps3 every couple weeks, apple is beginning to change up their macbook like. Updating it last year, then early this year, and now releasing a new one? whats next apple? calm down if you ask me.

Summary: Apple is turning into Sony.

grrrrreat review! watching mactards squirm (in their responses) is priceless!!!

  • reply by: rojarosa on March 4, 2009

What this guy is saying is that Apple frequently "updates" its line of MacBooks to sucker up more customers, not to genuinely offer better products. This is a smart strategy on one hand; on the other one, this reeks of manipulation.

you are totaly correct, apple does keep chaging and updating but a psp is one thing not a laptop the laptop is chnging to better improve the use of the computer if your that mad that apple keeps updating idk why you are becasue they are changing for the better ahat the hell does sony have to do with apple this is one of the most stupid reviews ive read ever!!!!

Apple is updating as fast as Intel is updating their processors.

Nobody wants to buy last generation parts if possible.

It already has turned into a sony - drm, bloatware, etc

duh do you know other companies release new laptops every 3 weeks ? apple is just fair and you can take your laptop to apple store and upgrade your hardwares anytime ...

This is not a review of the product. This is an opinion of the corporation. Frankly, I think to complain about consistent updates is silly. What is the concern? Are you worried that you won't have the most recently released piece of hardware? That doesn't matter at all as long as the hardware you own works for your needs. I love that Apple keeps trying to get better, rather than sit on their laurels and release subtle tweaks every 2 or 3 years.

I'd say it's turning into another Bose

This is not a product rating; it's just a comment. Please do not put this under a user review because you do not own the product. Publish this on a blog if you want people to read your opinion.

    Funny man!

2 thumbs up! That's all because both apple and sony (its PSwhatever division) have become cultish clubs. Both want you to pay your membership fees regularly!

Generally, Apple is amongst the slowest to make significant upgrades to their product lines, and are often not the first to get a new batch of processors from Intel. Their previous line remained essentially unchanged for quite some time, only really getting slightly better graphics, and slightly better processor and system bus speeds, but as one who still sports an original Core Duo 32-bit Macbook, this is the first truly significant change that I've seen with these systems.

This is the first change in Macbook in 2 years and I was waiting for its release. I just bought mine last weekend and I am more than happy.
I must say almost all of the negative comments sound sour grapes to me. Comparing Sony PS3 releases to Laptop release cycle is just hilarious.

I think they'r rushing these because the iphone sells well so far. They figured they could sell more macboooks if they made them look similar to their phones. steves games as usual

@ef0411: Why do you think this comment of yours is legitimate. Where does it say it belongs in this review? What is your benefit from sucking up to the company in its product review? See, anyone can ask questions.

  • reply by: ef0411 on October 24, 2008

Do you even own this product??

IF your complaint about Apple was legitimate, it wouldn't belong in the Cons section of your review anyway. It wouldn't belong in this review PERIOD. What is the point of bashing the company in its product review?

Next, if you say Apple is turning into Sony, then so are LG, Samsung, etc. constantly coming up with new phone models. In case you haven't noticed, the way to seize and steal stock shares is to keep your product line alive.

Summary: Apple turning into Sony has nothing whatsoever to do with the performance of the Macbook. Go post in your blog or something.

huh? Updating it last year, then early this year, and a new one? How old are you? Technology changes pretty quickly, Intel changes their processor or chipset around 6 months plus. FYI, Apple updating their MB with Intel latest processor is considered late comparing to its competitors who have been offering Centrino 2 for quite a while already.
The only reason why you notice this is cause Apple make some sort of announcement each time they upgrade their processors or chipset and possibly add some minor changes whereas Apple competitors usually change their processor or chipset silently. It will appear on their ads though.

@shaun822: this is what they call the planned obsolescence. Apple is kind of famous for this.

  • reply by: Shaun822 on October 20, 2008

This is the first cosmetic change to the Apple Macbook since they introduced them in 2006. Every computer manufacturer puts new chips in their computers as they become available. I bought a Dell XPS and three weeks later a new chip was available that I would have liked but I bought before it was available. This is not a problem exclusive to Apple. And, comparing a computer to a game console is like apple's and oranges (no pun intended). People purchase consoles for the 3 to 6 years of guaranteed homogeneity. People purchase notebooks and computers knowing full well that they are built to be out of date in 8 to 12 months.

  • reply by: BaobamaAndBidet2008 on October 20, 2008

And every time they release a new one a bunch of older ones will become kids toys.

  • reply by: boxerorange on October 20, 2008

@jakestarnes: You are so absolutely, completely wrong. They have released two models every year since 2006. That's six different MacBooks. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacBook#Models]

  • reply by: tjt7a on October 20, 2008

To stay competitive in today's computer market, Apple needs to continuously refresh its computer line.

  • reply by: jakestarnes on October 20, 2008

err...they havent released a new macbook since it was introduced in 2006. Yes, they update the inside tech, but what do you expect!? Otherwise it would have a 60gb hard drive with 1.8ghz core duo processor...which was slow as heck!
