Pros: Operating system is good, nice size and weight
Cons: Mediocre display, bad ergonomics
Summary: I liked the operating system just fine. I'm only vaguely familiar with Macs and liked most of the features, but didn't find it a compelling reason to buy this laptop. I can live with Windows or a Mac, it really doesn't matter that much to me.
The keyboard is great and the whole thing feels solid. The magnetic power supply connector is brilliant.
However, there are some real problems that I've not seen discussed in very many places. First, no matter how I configured the system, text on the screen was either too small or very fuzzy. I have never felt such eyestrain while using a laptop as I did with this one. There's something very uncomfortable about the way the screen is lit which only added to the discomfort of using it. Next to my old Windows laptop, images looked great, but the text was clearly harder to read.
I also have some ergonomic complaints. The lack of a standard aspect ratio screen makes this computer unsuitable for extended reading on web pages. By making the display lower and wider, you get less text on-screen at one time, and have to constantly scroll. Meanwhile, a bunch of that screen that you paid for is sitting unused over on the edge. A wide screen is great if you want to watch movies and TV on your laptop, but for me that's really not the primary use of a computer.
The edge of the computer, down by the palm rest, is very sharp. Over time, I find that I get really sore from either resting my palms or forearms on the edge. Other laptops that I've owned had a nice rounded edge that was much more comfortable for extended use. This is one of those irritations that I know I would never get used to.
The feature to automatically adjust display brightness to the ambient light is just annoying. I turned that off immediately.
I was unappy enough with this that I returned it. It's beautiful, not just not quite functional enough for me.
