"Battery life not what Apple claims"3.5 starson by dcoolcatt
Pros: Ergonomic design, solid laptop, easy to use while on the go or at home
Cons: I have MAC Book Pro 2.26 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB purchased in June 2009. Battery life tops out at approx 4 hours or under with low display lighting and keyboard lighting off. I will take it to Genius Bar to get this checked out.
Summary: I use both Windows XP and Mac on this laptop via VMWare Fusion. Get the best of both. There are some things you just cannot do on the MAC and some you just cannot do on the PC. Do not regret at all buying the MAC except for the battery life.Took my MAC to the Apple Store and the battery check proved it to be not defective. In fact they showed me a neat feature. If you display the time instead of percentage for battery life you can see the life fluctuate as you are using different programs hence able to identify programs that are power hogs.
I also understand that the battery can be replaced but only by Apple. I do have the Care Plan so let's see what Genius Bar says.
Backups with Time Machine are awesome and so is internet connectivity.
Most folks do not realize that while Apple touts you do not need virus protection, one does need to have a firewall for privacy protection. I believe you can get Little Snitch to do this. Still have to buy this. I have been told you cannot create html based videos using most of MAC's software like Camtasia studio does and that's a big drawback. Easy to create standard videos etc. Very easy upload and integration with Youtube and other social media sites like Facebook.
Neat iChat feature let's you do video conferencing as well.
I did order and get the Snow Leopard but have still to load it so do not know if I will have any issues with it.
Overall a good buy except for the battery life....

I was browsing websites like CNN and watching the news videos which do consume more power. Now I can track my usage appropriately. I do have a lot going on my laptop and when I check the guidelines vs my usage I have no complaints at all.
I also upgraded to Snow Leopard and installation was flawless first time around.
My system is a bit slow to boot compared to when I first bought it but then I have a lot on my system.
I upgrade my rating to 4.5 stars out of 5. They loose .5 due to lack of privacy software.
Absolutely no regrets going with the MAC.....beautiful piece of hardware and great ergonomics and fantastic performance to date. Best of both the MAC and Windows via VmWare Fusion
Updated on Dec 21, 2009I have been using my MacBook Pro since July 2007 without any problems at all. Have VMWare running on it and have upgraded to Snow Leopard. Excellent buy, I have 4 gigs of RAM with 1 gig for the windows running under VMWare.
