"a much better value than the reviewer would have you think"
Pros: very thin and light for such a full-featured notebook; OSX Tiger; class
Cons: aluminum can be tough to clean
Summary: The author states, "...on a pure hardware basis, the PowerBook G4 comes at a premium: a similarly configured ThinkPad T43, for example, costs $500 less."
This is a ridiculous comparison. The ThinkPad T43 is far from "similarly configured." The ThinkPad mentioned has a 14.1" screen (compared to the PowerBook's 15.2" widescreen). The ThinkPad also has a 60GB hard drive and lacks Firewire (IEE1394) ports. The PowerBook in question comes with an 80GB hard drive (no small difference in a laptop) and both Firewire 400 and Firewire 800. Admittedly, the ThinkPad has a lot more mouse buttons, a more cramped keyboard, and a parallel port (does anyone use it any more?). Of course, the Powerbook comes with built-in Bluetooth (something I'll actually use).
I'm on my second PowerBook and I would buy a third. It's easily portable, light, fully featured, and a good value for the money.

If the subject is "value" than the Think Pad being $500 dollars less is important. That is no small amount when it comes to laptops. I wouldn't say 20GB more hard drive is worth $500 dollars. As for your other comments, I think they are unnecessary, unimportant and immature. And by the way I am a Powerbook owner.

Although I've never used Apple in my life, our college appleshop has several in display. So I've had several chances to experience keyboard on the powerbook. BarkinJ's claim that IBM T43 keyboard is cramped and inferior to powerbook's is totally biased and in fact a lie. IBM has always been (now their personal computing dept. is owned by Lenovo btw) famous for their full sized keyboard and keystroke. Perhaps you've never heard of butterfly IBM laptop? It's so famous (and find out yourself if you want to know) that it's even displayed in NY Modern Art museum. (of course apple shell powerbook is also displayed) I understand and agree on that Apple does desigh much better. However, I really don't like Applish cult that surround Steve Jobs. If you want to make 'accurate' comparison with anyother product, then at least know the other product just enough so that you don't make foolish claim based on 'coolness' of Apple.
