"Great powerful, lightweight netbook w long battery life" on by nkowal
Pros: Starts up very quickly, and comes out of sleep quickly as well (Windows 7 helps). Very lightweight and easy to travel with. Battery Life is simply AMAZING (now there are ones that are better) Quick processor, don't notice any lag issues.
Cons: The finish is a fingerprint magnet, but I knew that when buying it. Is also a bit awkwardly-shaped, as the end furthest away from you is much heavier (battery). Not easy to type on your actual lap.
Summary: The Cons are really nitpicky. I have been absolutely thrilled since converting from a Laptop to this Netbook. I use my mobile computer for basic functions (browsing, watching movies/videos, Microsoft Office and Work stuff) and I must say I am never going to go back to a laptop. I would guess most people are like me and don't do anything too graphics-intense on their laptops/netbooks, so why be annoyed by the extra weight?
Overall, the performance has been great. I don't really notice any issues with rendering things, watching videos, etc. Microsoft Office runs flawlessly on this beast, so anyone worried about productivity (in that regard) shouldn't be. Battery life is amazing (I realize now there are netbooks with longer battery life, but at the time I got this it was basically the best), and I love the convenience of being able to just leave this for a few hours and come back and still have tons of battery life remaining. Keyboard is really nice, screen looks really nice as well, even on low brightness.
The Cons are nothing major, and all of them (save one) I was aware of going into my purchase. They're listed above, but I'll re-hash them here. If you touch this computer at all unless you're wearing gloves you will get fingerprints all over it. I'm not sure why they chose this finish, but they did. It's not a huge deal to me, so I just ignore it. The size/weight distribution is a bit weird too - as the netbook is small/thin everywhere except the back, where the battery is. This means if its sitting at the right angle it can tip. I rarely run into this and honestly, it's such a small thing (and I presume a common issue with Netbooks) but it is a con. This also goes into my next con which is that it doesn't sit that well in your lap. Again, netbook, not laptop, so this was something I was aware of going in. Other cons are things that you know (i.e. - no DVD drive) so nothing to neg this netbook for.
I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a netbook. I see a negative review or two, maybe they got a bad product, not sure, but this thing is a great netbook and I've been incredibly pleased with it. -
"Great netbook" on by bobbyb0322
Pros: Size, Functional, Runs everything I need, Ultra portable, Lightweight, Windows XP, Great Wireless Connectivity
Cons: No CD/DVD drive but this is the norm for netbooks.
Summary: This is my first netbook and I must say I am very pleased. I purchased the 1005HAB from Best Buy. I opted for this version with the N270 processor because it was cheaper and I used both prior to purchase and I couldn't tell the difference in the two other than price. This version doesn't have bluetooth but I don't need it. If I ever do I have a bluetooth dongle I can use. The wireless internet is probably the best I have seen. Keeps a good solid connection to my wireless N router. Mine came with the 6 cell 47w battery. I consistently get 8-9 hours of battery life with the auto power settings and screen brightness at about 1/4. Do your research and get the right applications meant for these things and it will run great for you too. I haven't tried any games. I only use this for school and travel as I have a high powered desktop for my main uses. So far word processing and internet browsing has been great!
I might also add that I recently also upgraded the memory to 2 GB. Really good idea to do this as you can never have to much RAM. It is very easy to change out. The unit has a small cover on the bottom with one screw that makes this easy.

"For the money, a good buy!" on by RonC32-ASA
Pros: Excellent performance for a small device. Good clear monitor that I was able to use in the car and in the plane as opposed to my full size laptop.
Cons: Power jack failed and can not find anyone that will work on it. Have purchased another netbook and will take my HD out of the Asus and buy a drive enclosure.
Summary: Over all was very happy with this small laptop. Before the power jack failed, I had just about abandoned my Gateway full size laptop. Had no trouble moving my files and programs from my desktop to the netbook so the lack of a CD/DVD drive was not a problem for me.
Good buy for the money, just be very careful with the power jack and AC adapter cord connection. -
"One awesome Lil Machine" on by vermonthillbilly
Pros: Very portable, boots very fast, easy to navigate, and very affordable.
Cons: One drawback would be the fact that there is no DVD drive but that is a fact of live with a note book not a con.
Summary: This is the first notebook i have ever owned. i went to Best Buy looking to but an affordable laptop and ran across this product. After doing some research and some pacing i decided on getting it. the price was the deciding factor $250.00 had me sold. Well the rest is history. I love this machine. The keyboard is very comfortable for typing, the screen is bright. I have never had an issue with this machine at all. It connects flawlessly to any wireless connection and i'm off and running. I travel almost every weekend and together with my 3g network card and built in wireless card i'm connected no matter where i go. If you're sitting there reading this wondering if you should buy this notebook or not by all means DO IT!!! Best $250.00 I've spent in years. Enjoy and happy surfing :)

"Most over-rated netbook ever!!" on by thevoice78
Pros: portable, good size keyboard and touch pad, has all the standard stuff of a netbook (wifi, web cam, 3 usb ports, etc)
Cons: very very slow, keyboard misinterprets key strokes, battery life isn't great
Summary: I do not understand how and why this netbook gets such positive reviews. I had an acer aspire one and was totally happy with it but I accidentally dropped it, which killed the hard drive so I had to buy another netbook. After reading such amazing review on the Asus Eee, I decided to buy it. What a mistake that was, I should have just stuck with the Acer. This thing is so slow! Just to switch from one window to another, it takes about 30-60 seconds to think about it. I don't even have that many programs running on this. I stripped it down to the basics just to try to improve its performance. Nope, still doesn't work. On my Acer I was running robust programs like photoshop and it was still way faster than this clunker. WIndows explorer is constantly crashing and updates can never install. I have had so many problems with other programs just randomly never working. Could be the programs or could be that this computer sucks!!
This keyboard is a good size but the positives end there. I type pretty fast and somehow I always end up opening up new windows or closing programs just by typing!! Also when I'm typing, the cursor will randomly jump to another spot in the document. It's so annoying.
Overall I find this to be a HUGE disappointment and I cannot understand why people rave about this. It's only 8 months old and in fine working condition but I'm seriously considering just shelling out another couple hundred of bucks to buy something totally new because this piece of crap drives me crazy with its slowness and all the random stuff it's always doing when all I want to do is type something or surf the web!!
Seriously, save yourself the trouble and buy something else. Also, I will no longer trust CNET's editor reviews because evidently they raved about the Asus Eee so there goes they're credibility.
